I said that in 1999 in my first submission to SGC (at that time in Parsippany NJ). Funny to see a repeat in 2021 that "SGC is the future" 😁... Hope the future will be the present before we are dead, I am still waiting for 2 decades! 😁
SGC isn't for everyone but it's perfect for a collector like myself -- a guy looking to buy $20-$30 cards and turn them into $150-$200 cards, and occasionally add to my PC. I've sent in five submissions in the last several months and have yet to be disappointed.
I only sub to SGC as they have the best and most reliable parameters for my OCD. I can’t rely on subjective BS from PSA. SGC is organic and PSA is gmo to me…. Plus before this crap all started with shutdowns I had a similar issue with both companies and PSA not only gave me the run around they treated me like dog water, not worth their time, buzz off type response. SGC complete opposite; treated me like a human with value and my issue was corrected within 24 hours. So for me it’s only SGC for my subs.
PSA are now charging $200 per card, and they have a 4-6 month minimum in return time. That us BS and greed. 200 for grading a card??? Yeah right. Other companies are better.
Money is an issue that everyone has for a better and luxurious life. Life was hard for me until I started making profits on my investment with the help of Tisha Lauri
I make huge profits on my investment since I started trading with Mrs Tisha Lauri, her trading strategies are top notch coupled with the little commission she charges on her trade
As a first time investor I started trading with Mrs Tisha with just a thousand bucks. my portfolio is worth much more that now within just weeks of trading with her.
I'm tired of Psa's antics. I've moved on to hga and sgc . Even csg isn't bad ...if they ditch that ugly greenish slab.....collectors unite and dump psa. We create the demand. Let's stop the psa demand.
HGA is my favorite and that’s who I’m submitting to. I like the look and they are tough on grading which will make the 10’s more rare over time if they sustain a low pop. Good pricing and comeback time as well. Great company and growing fast with being open less than a year. They have my vote
I agree I'm sticking with HGA. Don't care if they are worth less, not gonna deal with the terrible customer service from BGS and PSA. Neither company seems to care about there customers.
Solid content TPott! I bet your back must be very sore from carrying SCI 😀. Curious to see what this is going to look like a year from now. With PSA and Beckett not taking any lower cost submissions for the foreseeable future, I can see a scenario where companies like SGC pick up market confidence in their grading process and reduce that multiplier at the grade 9 (mint) to 10 (gem mint) range…
Is it finally fair to say that the market is no longer PSA and BGS only? SGC has clearly entered into the conversation and an argument could be made that they are either in the 2nd spot or very close. Their spot in the market can no longer be denied.
It goes deeper than that. PSA doesn't offer a 9.5 grade, but they offer an 8.5 grade which does not make sense. So logic tells us they're either rounding up to a 10, or down to a 9. I think it would shock a lot of collectors how many "non-true gem" bgs 9.5s would become PSA 10s if they were broken out of their slabs. Personally I'm taking advantage of the market and buying expensive cards for half the price in bgs 9.5.
Sell a few cards and you'll see that PSA and BGS fetch the most money. Say what you want about SGC but I have trouble moving them and they never sell for what they would if graded by PSA or BGS. High grade Atomic Refractors always fly out the door but I still have an Amari Cooper rookie that wont sell and the difference is its an SGC graded card. Maybe the market has changed over the past year but not enough for me to buy SGC.
Let's discuss this. In 2021 we can 3d print a gun that will shoot live ammo. But panini can't cut straight Centered cards. The pop reports are manufactured buy panini and topps.
That grin is great! I would so rather have a PSA 9 Refractor over a PSA 10 Base. As far as for resale, PSA10s are much easier to move so when it comes to ultra modern, more people are likely to pick up 10s. The percentage of true collectors that hold for greater than a year is getting smaller. I’ll have to use these charts for more of my Duncan pickups! Here’s an idea, voice activation charts. Hey Market movers, show me comps for Tim Duncan Topps Chrome Refractor Gems 😀😀
Like a lot in the comments, the PSA 10 base/9 Refractor has me thinking about how I've been spending my card money and how I should spend going forward. I'm not a market movers subscriber (yet), but I'd be curious as to what measure of liquidity there is. I know that eBay auction completion is a pretty good sign that the card will sell, but is there anything you can measure like duration of buy it now listings before getting purchased, # of watchers or bidders auctions have, listing volume, ebay search volume (I typically add psa 10 to my searches so I'd never see a 9), or other metrics I can't think of that may determine interest in cards? Surely an incredibly complicated things to measure, but if market movers has something like this I'll be subscribing this afternoon.
For me, Black Label above all BGS 10 PSA 10 BGS 9.5 PSA 9 BGS 9 I try to stick to BGS and PSA, I will buy SGC or SGC if I believe I can crack and resub
My personal favorite is BGS 9.5 just because it’s usually cheaper than a PSA 10. But I have had great experiences with HGA, SGC, and CSG. Horrible experiences with BGS and I forgot what I submitted to PSA if it ever comes back. Regardless I really love the data analytics videos T-PoT! Keep up the great work!
Loved the video and breakdown, I just hope the hobby catches up as well as the prices. I’m a huge believer in pop count and how it should dictate price - the lower pop count of a card in a high grade, the more desirable and higher the price it should demand.
Yes, but PSA's pop count is not at all accurate, because of all the re-submissions. The 10's are probably accurate as far as the pop count, but chances are you are getting a true 8 or 9 in your PSA 10 slab!
I actually was researching a card earlier, sgc 9.5 sold for less than an hga 9.5. I don't know why but sgc has horrible resale. A sgc 9 is basically worthless. I love sgc as a company. Fair prices and quick turnaround. But their slabs look cheap and feel cheap. I'd send modern to hga before sgc. Hga slabs look and feel nice and thick. I personally prefer 1. BGS 2. PSA 3. HGA 4. SGC
@@Liftoff2theclouds Yeah that could be true but I don't send anything I'm holding long term to Hga for now. Usually just ultra modern cards and then I move them. Hga has better resale right now from what I'm seeing compared to sgc. I send vintage to sgc. Any big cards that are long term investments go to psa or bgs.
It seems like regardless of them getting hobby wide acceptance, HGA has a pretty strong following with folks that are primarily collectors that could keep them around for quite a while. The eye appeal of many of their slabs alone should be able to sustain them at some level.
Just curious why when you were showing the labels you put the PSA 9 above the SGC 9.5, yet when you went to your data the SGC 9.5 was higher? Also you chose to compare the psa values to sgc values including 2019 and 2020 Prizm when we all know the pops and PSA not taking subs but at 200.00/card is keeping some of the values inflated due to a more “limited supply”.
I love CSG, BGS has horrible customer service. PSA is solid also. But lately I’ve been sending to PSA, CSG and SGC depending on the card and timing. I sent a few PC things to HGA and bought slabs on eBay from ECG and RCG to check em out but not a big fan on the look.
Why do we just blindly let PSA set the market. Other companies grade as well as PSA. Those using BGS, HGA and then hold on your asking price. Don’t sell low. Price with a PSA comp and stand by your ask. Please people. Enough with the blind love of PSA.
He's right and wrong about sgc gold label. But the wrong even makes it more right. Not many sales on the golds cause their isn't many and just as good as black labels. The market will recognize this eventually
Define eventually. Do you mean in our lifetime? I would say not since SGC has been around since the 90s and they're still considered the Arby's of card grading. If SGC were smart they would bid a ton of their stuff up on ebay to raise comps, buy it, and then resell it back into the market.
Because for modern cards, PSA 9 should match a pack fresh card. These card companies mint cards - a card should come out of the pack a 9. It’s the same as raw imo.
Remember that the hierarchy he shows is just his and maybe SCI’s own opinion. Remember, opinions are like mouths, everyone has one. No matter the company who’s name is on the flip, buy the card, not the grade!!!
The market doesn't have an opinion other than the dollars and cents. PSA is king by miles in the market. Avg dollar per sale, search hits, etc. There's nothing even close. Last public earnings statment, PSA did 5x Beckett's earnings and that was only coins, cards, & autos while Beckett had many other streams of revenue. PSA dominates the market like Nike does shoes.
Yes very true seems like that is as tough as BGS 10…i only did the big three companies for simplicity. Thanks for watching and sorry about the audio issue!
Yes sorry I lost power due to a thunderstorm in the middle of recording and didnt know the audio file got wonky until our video editor was editing…but I didnt have a chance to re-record. 😫 Thanks for watching!
I think HGA goes out of business if the hobby returns back to normal popularity. Will be in the graveyard of grading companies, SGC has vintage on lock & auction houses recognize it.
Based on personal preference, sure one can say that. Based on the data presented in the video, specifically around Gem Mint cards, SGC is equal to BGS at worst and better in some cases.

This isn't true at all. BGS 9.5 is more liquid than an SGC 10. I wish ur statement was true tho
I wouldn’t say second, but their quick turnaround and fair proving has def cemented them in 3rd place. Still highly respectable!
I started with BGS and love the quality of their slabs. I’ve just been a fan of the black labels. Personal preference. To each their own.
Is there a PDF of these rankings between the grading companies?
FCG. Most consistent company I've used to date. Great looking slabs and you get a report of why your card scored the grade.
