Oakland live concert with Unchained, when Dave says "Everybody Up!" is one of the greatest openings and live moments caught on camera. Always gives me chills.
Just thinking about Unchained gets the hairs on my arms standing from the raw energy and pure power of that riff. It's like hearing it for the first time all over again
@@Twobarpsi I never saw Van Halen live... But Nuno is from Boston... about 45 minutes away from me. I saw Extreme 4 times. They were absolutely amazing. Nuno is just a really phenomenal guitarist. Good stuff.👍😊🥃
This show is the scratch for the itch I’ve been feeling for years. Love it man. Huge fan of your Dads and you are the best meld of talent and style to come along in years. Kinda pisses me off you can play Ed’s stuff and make it look so effortless. But not really, I know the work that went into that look. Great to hear Nuno talking about that stuff. I just dig it. I wish you good fortune and peace, take care.
Most everything a musician has done is inspired by countless musicians who were inspired by other musicians, it's one long chain. That said, as Steve Vai said, there are only two 'game changers', and he listed them as Hendrix and EVH; I would tentatively add one more however: Allan Holdsworth. While not as overall influential due to his limited reach, his exploration of the instrument was groundbreaking. But should we also maybe go back further and add guys like Chuck Berry?
Funny, I met Nuno in early '91 and asked him who his influences were on guitar. I asked him almost as a joke because it was very obvious Eddie was a huge influence. He never mentioned Eddie when he answered me which I thought was ridiculous. He threw out a few other player's names and mentioned Woody Allen as a joke. In my opinion he most definitely did rip off the opening riff from Unchained on his tune Mutha, but now calls it a tribute to Eddie. Basically it's Van Halen for the intro and chorus, and Queen for the verses. Everybody I knew who heard that track back in the day said, wow could it be any more obvious this guy is ripping off the intro to Unchained? Nobody considered it a tribute. I thought Extreme was a very good band back in the day and Nuno was a fantastic player but I have to say, 30 years later, their material didn't age well. But hey, they made a contribution to music, they made some money and had a career. Whenever I listen to their tunes I can pick the parts off and say...there's Van Halen, there's Queen, oh, some Beatles, a little Aerosmith, a little Simon and Garfunkel. Everybody has influences but they wore their influences on their sleeves, it was a bit too obvious, especially on the first two albums. What rubbed people (including people in the industry) the wrong way back then was they thought a lot of the "Nuno is the next Eddie" bullsh*t went to Nuno's head and he got wrapped up with himself. He's not carrying the torch for Eddie, there is no "next Eddie".

It's not just a good riff, but adding the flanger made it Epic!

Technically it's not Drop D... it's a C#... that was REALLY low tuning for the time....🤘🤘🤘
Eddie and Nuno were 2 of the guitarist that I loved... but never wanted to imitate.
(Not that I could)
Amazing players.👍🥃
I can play Eddie's riffs, but NONE of Nuno's 🥵

@@BillMcGirr I saw VH, once in 2007 with DLR and Wolfie.... blew me away. I grew up with this band from the 70s to the end.
@@BillMcGirr Nuno is a genius player. Love his music, can't play a lick of his 🥵

Good stuff brother.💪🎸🥃
A little off topic, but why is 51 seconds of a 5:22 video wasted on an intro song and photo?
This is just a sample or snippet, a teaser or trailer, of a whole episode. This is free, the interview is not.
Because it rocks.

I wish Dweezil or anyone else who interviews Nuno would ask him, “when is the long overdue new Extreme album going to be released?”
Remember when VH-1 tried to do a Bands Reunited and Nuno refused?
I think Gary going to VH caused a little saltiness.
Honestly.
Where can I buy a can of Eddie soup?
In addition to Nuno’s “Mutha”, I’m pretty darn sure the Warren DeMartini’s “Lay it Down” had to have been inspired by Unchained, IMHO.
Drop D tuning
I'd never thought of that..! I can kind of see it. Both Unchained and Lay it Down are favorites for me.
Right on. I may try and come up with a riff of tune and people say to me Oh that sounds just like that. And I always say no shit.

Ironic that Gary sang for VH 🤔😃?
SNOOZE FEST. Get the marbles out the mouth.
You must be a youngin.
I don't this riff is as important or influential as they are saying. I don't even think it's a well known song at all.
It's probably really influential on guitarists, many of whom admire Eddie Van Halen.
