Hey Rob. Thanks heaps for a very informative video. I've recently ordered a ledger and it's great to see a step by step walk through like this. Very helpful and prior to this didn't realize it's so easy to stake. I'll have to sign up to your website so I can go through your ledger setup tutorials for when my ledger arrives. Thanks for all your hard work to bring us such great content. Very much appreciated. Cheers, Brad.
Good to see a video on polkadot. Staking (nominator) pools also coming for polkadot in probably november (currently on kusama) if you don't meet the current minimum solo nominator requirement. The 28 days unbonding is maybe a bit high in comparison (to other pos networks/chains) but hey network security is important.
Well made video, very complete and thorough , i just wished you mentioned the MINIMUM amount necessary to start receiving rewards, at the present day is 191 DOT. Got my DOT stopped there for 28 day with no rewards , not to mention the fees for the whole process of bonding nominating and then the unbonding and withdraw goes easily to .50cents at least.
Yes the minimum through polkadot staking that way. Polkadot just came out with something new where you only need 1 dot. Have not seen a lot of people mention it but they mentioned it in their twitter with a link. You can connect you ledger to a 3rd party
It is 250 now and i have been unable to unbond my 188 DOT for many weeks and no word from ledger support. I wonder why they let me bond it to begin with. But now i have been unable to do anything, almost a dozen failed transactions and not enough DOT available for transactions to attempt it again.
Hey Rob, great video. Just one comment... you said that you can only delegate to one SPO on Cardano. That's not actually true. If you use a wallet with multi-delegation you can stake to many different SPOs at once.
Current question: Why would they let you nominate if have 250 dot, but you cannot get rewards until you have 420 dot??? What’s the point of nominating if you can’t get a reward?? Is this information correct?
You will definitely need more than 200 DOT to receive rewards nowadays. Current minimum is 191. Btw no need to nominate one by one, you have to pay fees every time you nominate, so just pick x/16 nominations and proceed with the process with only one fee.
Hello, if minimum nominated amount is 237 (like currently) do i need to nominate 237 to one validator or can i spread 237 dots to diffren validators but yet still get rewards. thank you for videos :D
Thank you, that was a very helpful video. One question, if, for example, you choose 5 validators and have 100 DOT. Do you have to assign an amount of DOT to each validator, or does the 100 DOT get shared out amongst them?
Rob... Great video! One problem... I followed along... bonded, found validators .... Then I found the minimum to earn rewards... you need over 171DOT to earn reawards! I guess it was a good dry run! 😕
There will be staking pools happening soon so you can nominate whatever you have. That should be launching within the next month or so. Still plenty of time to earn APY
Hey Rob ,Thx to your informative video i managed to use ledger for staking my DOT I recently i have a warning popping on my nomination page : " Your Bonded Balance is below the current minimum of 250 .your nominations are at risk of being removed " Any clarification on how to deal with this ? PS: I have more then 250 DOT Thank you for all the content you provide
Am I correct in assuming that we should regularly check our nominations to make sure they are still active and still have capacity and haven't changed their comission rates? And I assume it will be necessary to select new validators from time to time to ensure we keep earning rewards? I'm guessing that it's possible a validator can become oversubscribed after we have already nominated them and we won't notice if we don't check from time to time. If so, how often would we need to do this? Once a week? Once a month? Also, is it a good idea to nominate the maximum number of 16 validators or is it okay to just select 3 or 4? I'm a bit unclear on how it works. If you nominate 10 validators and one of them becomes inactive or oversubscribed how does that affect your rewards? Do you lose 10%? Do you need all 10 to be active to get all the rewards? How is it calculated? I've found a lot of information about how stake your DOT but I haven't found any clear answers to these questions yet? Any chance of a short follow up video to clarify some of this? Also, thanks for the information, I was just thinking about trying this out myself so this was very helpful.
No guarantees that the validators even nominate you and you could earn zero . Slashing is also a major concern and it’s not easy deciding which validators are safe . Save yourself the headache and use a centralized exchange like Kraken or Binance . Just my opinion
6:16 got a quick question here if that's ok. If we are nominators, does that mean we need at least 10 DOT to stake, but ~171 DOT (as of today) to get any rewards? Other than that thanks and great video, didn't realize I needed to keep my validators active (unlike ADA).
It still does not work. I have wasted transactions almost a dozen times trying to unbond and i have cleared nominations too. They dont tell you and allow you to do it over and over, slowly stealing all your DOT. When iget access to my DOT again., I am swapping it all into ADA.
Great content, as always! I need some advice: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (air carpet target dish off jeans toilet sweet piano spoil fruit essay). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
So grateful for the video! Thank you! -what happens if you bond all and don’t have enough for fees? -how do you add the rewards gained to stake pool? -how do you change a nominator that over saturated/out of balance?
The 28 day unbond sucks but that’s why we get a much higher APY. If it was like ADA where there is no unbonding period, everyone would stake and the APY would get crushed. Double edged sword as they say.
9:06 Small correction here. The ledger devices that you're showing are Ledger Nano S Plus & Ledger Nano X. They have exactly the same capacity (up to 100 apps). The only difference is that Nano X has bluetooth and some battery to support it, whereas, Nano S Plus requires connection via USB(type A to C or type C to C) to operate with on PC or mobile phone.
what are the exact consequences if my 1000 dot is slashed into the pool by a bad validator? will i lose the 1000 dot? or will I only lose part of my staking profits?

Hi Rob, I unstaked my DOTs and today is the 28th day but I still can't withdraw it. It shows my unbonded balance but it doesn't reflect on the available balance. How do I withdraw my unbonded DOT to the available balance?
Hi Dan, Just b/c the S can store only 3 apps doesn't mean you need to by an X or another S? you can delete apps and your crypto does not disappear. just less convenient
I am staking dot on ledger live. My issue is, I think when I set this up I didn’t have my rewards go to my staked balance. So if i want to stake my rewards i have to bond again each time i do this. This is obviously time consuming to do every day, plus you have to pay a small fee. Anyway to fix this with out unbonding and waiting 28 days?
Is it true a validator can see my crypto? Says here on my ledger says choose validators wisely. Part of your bonded assets may be irrevocably lost of a validator does not behave appropriately
i'm sure ive done this carefully but no rewards so far... maybe .08 dot after 2 months. I just keep getting note that not active nominations. i've added 16, checked the commission rates and even updated the list of nominations but im still getting nothing maybe its something obvious... anyone else in this boat? 🤔

I have a question (I'm new to crypto). Lets say I unbond my DOT and I am still within its 28-day waiting period. During the 28-day period, the validator does something shady and gets slashed. Do I still lose my DOT that I had previously nominated to that validator?
you need 10 dot to stake but you need much more before you earn any any interest but it doesn't tell you how much? how much do you need before you can earn interest ? please?

When I chose the bonded balance, I understood that Reward continues to be staking automatically. However, for examply, after I stake 140 dots, I send 60 dots from another exchange to my ledger wallet, then, will 60 dots be automatically staking? Just like cardano's yoroi wallet.
Hi, I’ve had my dad staked on ledger for a while. I’m trying to unbond and it keeps telling me. Something went wrong. In the middle, it says TXN version not supported I don’t know what that means
I know its risky, with Celsius and Voyager going under this year. But Freeway gives you 21.5% on polkadot. Also gives 43% on BTC, ETH, USD and GBP. Would love to know your thoughts on the company, supposedly a registered broker in the EU
speaks for itself doesn't it? Offering a higher yield than staking directly (16% on Polkadot yet 21.5% on Freeway) meaning they are allegedly taking a loss. No company would do this.
Hey friend, just wondering if you could help me out. I have staked my DOT following your steps from your video. After I have nominated my 16 validators I get a warning message saying that 'There are no active nominations' what dose this mean and how do I solve this problem ? Cheers :)
Hey there, the actual minimum is more like 220 DOT to do it natively with ledger, you could also join a pool if don't have the amount but if you have a big amount and still don't getting rewards I say look for two things called "Put in front" and "rebag" that helped me to get the rewards. Hope you can find the solution, I know how painful staking DOT is 😣
Anyone else having issues not getting rewards? I have above the amount of DOT needed for rewards bonded with 15 elected validators but all my validators are showing up as "inactive" It's been about 2 weeks now.
@@jl3268I just read that Ledger did an update a few months ago that fixed the issue that prevented Dot from being unbound. Might be worth one more try.

@@DigitalAssetNews I agree man and you are the motivation to get me moving. I've had these damn things on my desk since I had a failed bank deposit onto Coinbase and they sold my BTC in my account to cover it, since they'd already credited me. That's scary. More over, they told me it was stolen and was my fault. They had no idea what really happened, but said it was my fault as an auto default. Moved everything to Binance after that.
my issue is not having any reward at all after 4 days and I have selected all good validators, im staking 87 dot, maybe is not enough? on the polkadot target page is showing that lowest / avg staked 1.8825 M / 2.1517 MDOT, does that mean I need to have 1.8825 M at least?
The minimums for staking dot or rising all the time. I think it's about 170. To steak on ledger. They are coming out with staking pools very soon and you can stake any amount of dot on that too. Using your dot to get astar or moonbeam would be a good idea to
Sadly, you'll need more than 220 to be getting rewards, If you don't have the amount a suggest you to unbound, wait for the unbounding time and then join a pool where you can get rewards from as little as one DOT. Good luck.
I followed your tutoiral, succesfully bonded 100 dot and picked carefully 3 validators. Unfortunately nothing happened, I only got error info that the validators are either unelected or inactive. The same goes when I try to choose different validators - they are all unelected. What did I do wrong?

@@jl3268I just read that Ledger did an update a few months ago that fixed the issue that prevented Dot from being unbound. Might be worth one more try.
I've been sitting on activating my Ledger cold wallet, but this video is going to get me going, but holy shit that's a lot of work to stake compared to Binance! Thanks Rob, keeping us informed, empowered and safe
I’d rather put the work in then have my withdrawals shut off. I’ve learned my lesson on that. Can’t trust any of these exchanges.
I'll take higher rewards and increase security over a little convenience
@@morganshook3168 agreed as I stated above.
I must say . It’s good. But…too much procedure for not such enough rewards. Also the 28 days … nope.
Thought is for investors not traders yet
my issue is not having any reward at all after 4 days and I have selected all good validators, im staking 87 dot, maybe is not enough? on the polkadot target page is showing that lowest / avg staked
1.8825 M / 2.1517 MDOT, does that mean I need to have 1.8825 M at least?
Went thru the same issues . I had 150 and couldn’t get nominated.
Dot staking is for the elite , not for the little guy .

@@NacionCrypto where is the pool? ON Ledger?
Ledger nano is so easy to use once you get used to it
I agree, EXCEPT my experience with DOT.
now you need over 400 DOT to be able to get any rewards thats something to update in this video
