Actie - Reactie. 100 jaar kinetische kunst in Kunsthal Rotterdam

De tentoonstelling ‘Actie - Reactie. 100 jaar kinetische kunst’ in de Kunsthal Rotterdam presenteert een indrukwekkend historisch overzicht van kinetische kunst, de abstracte kunststroming uit de twintigste eeuw waarin licht en beweging centraal staan. Circa tachtig werken van de beroemdste kunstenaars, die aan de ontwikkeling van de kinetische kunst hebben bijgedragen, zijn te bewonderen. Van pioniers als Marcel Duchamp, Alexander Calder en Victor Vasarely tot gevleugelde namen als Julio Le Parc, Gerhard von Graevenitz, Christian Megert, Bridget Riley, Yayoi Kusama, Jan van Munster en Dan Flavin en jongere generaties onder wie Jeppe Hein, Žilvinas Kempinas, en Philippe Decrauzat. Ook is werk te zien van Heinz Mack, Otto Piene en Günther Uecker van de Duitse avant-gardistengroep Zero.
De Kunsthal Rotterdam is trots dat zij in 2018, in nauwe samenwerking met de Réunion des musées nationaux - Grand Palais, Parijs, ruim 100 jaar na het ontstaan van deze kunststroming, met ‘Actie Reactie’ een prestigieuze overzichtstentoonstelling in Nederland kan laten zien over de kinetische kunst van toen in het licht van de performatieve kunsten van nu.
De kunstwerken in de tentoonstelling, waaronder een aantal monumentale installaties (environments), zijn afkomstig uit gerenommeerde collecties van diverse musea uit Europa, en bijeengebracht door de Franse gastcurator Serge Lemoine (voormalig president-directeur Musée d’Orsay en emeritus hoogleraar aan de Sorbonne Universiteit van Parijs) en Marianne Le Pommeré (kunsthistoricus).

The Kunsthal Rotterdam exhibition 'Action - Reaction. 100 Years of Kinetic Art' presents an impressive historical overview of kinetic art, the abstract art movement from the twentieth century focusing on light and movement. Around eighty works of the most famous artists who made important contributions to the development of kinetic art can be admired. From pioneers such as Marcel Duchamp, Alexander Calder and Victor Vasarely, to established names such as Julio Le Parc, Gerhard von Graevenitz, Christian
Megert, Bridget Riley, Yayoi Kusama, Jan van Munster and Dan Flavin as well as representatives from younger generations such as Jeppe Hein, Žilvinas Kempinas and Philippe Decrauzat. Also shown is work by Heinz Mack, Otto Piene and Günther Uecker
of the German avant-garde group Zero.
In 2018, over a century after the birth of this art movement, and in close collaboration with the Réunion des musées nationaux - Grand Palais, Paris, the Kunsthal Rotterdam is proud to present ‘Action - Reaction’ in the Netherlands, a prestigious retrospective
exhibition, placing the kinetic art of yesterday in the context of the performative arts of today.
The artworks in the exhibition, including a number of monumental installations (environments), originate from famous collections of various museums in Europe and are brought together by the renowned French guest curator Serge Lemoine (former Président of Musée d’Orsay and Professor emeritus at Sorbonne University, Paris) and Marianne Le Pommeré (Historian of Art).
