I agree with all the things you have said. I usually try to just accept it and do whatever I feel like doing instead. My reading slumps usually happen when there is too much other stuff going on in my life and I feel very stressed out. TV shows can help me to get over those times.
I usually just take a long break. I go through extended periods of obsessive reading, and it gives me pretty intense burnout. It might not be healthy, but I kinda can't not do it. I agree that buying books gets you into a good headspace to read; it's often what I do when I'm feeling burnout approaching, but want to go on just a little longer.
