Reading my first 5 star book of 2024! Weekend Reading Vlog
I guess one book that will always make me happy is Nevermoor. :)
Kyle made this such a struggle. :D Malta in this book is also a struggle, however, knowing what I know now.... but yeah, this series is quite long and if it doesn't completely work for you, it's not worth it.
Just finished this book yesterday. Ended it crying. It was an amazing read. Never finished a book so fast 😂😂😂 what a way to push my reading journey !🥺
I really really wanna read the Spellshop! So happy you liked it. Same for Sorceress. :D I have a feeling this might become my new favorite T Kingfisher book. Happy reading in October!
I hope you get a chance to read Nimona in print one day, it's really cute. I liked it. :) But I always support a good DNF, even if I am a horrible completionist myself.
Moonbound sounds interesting! I'd seen it a couple places but never looked deeply into it. Might give it a go now. Thanks!
It's silly and fun Sci-Fantasy, for sure! I hope you enjoy it!
It’s so tough for me to DNF books, but I never regret doing it. Love that you quit a book after three pages. 😂 My wife gives me crap for abandoning TV shows five minutes into the pilot episode. 🫠
@@KevinsNovelAdvice I’m TERRIBLE with tv shows. Usually I give books more of a chance… usually 😂
The books that are my priority for the rest of the year are Mistborn Era 1 and Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell. The cover of Spell Shop really is illegally cute.
"I don't know if I can talk about it without getting flustered because I am very gay" me everytime someone asks me what the book is about. This book was the first time I delved into a wlw romance and honestly I'm hooked. I thought I just didn't like romance novels but turns out I was reading the wrong kind
Wow, I didn't even know Talia Hibbert had put out that many novels outside of the Brown sisters trilogy! They all sound so cool, I'll definitely have to check them out! I just finished Get a Life, Chloe Brown, so my next read will probably be Take a Hint, Dani Brown. However, the Princess Trap is currently for free on Audible.......
@@justink5000 I hope you love you next Hibbert read, no matter what it is!!
I'm currently reading Dead Cat Tail Assassins, I am about half-way through. I hope it will get a little more exciting, so far it isn't hitting the way I want it to. Happy reading in September!
SECRETS?!?! I think the Earth and Sky series sounds really intriguing! I'm going to add that one to my TBR.
Your excitement for this book is infectious!! Great video!!
@@KitCupidOfficial aw thank you!!! 😊
I usually just take a long break. I go through extended periods of obsessive reading, and it gives me pretty intense burnout. It might not be healthy, but I kinda can't not do it. I agree that buying books gets you into a good headspace to read; it's often what I do when I'm feeling burnout approaching, but want to go on just a little longer.
So far, my favorite is Nettle and Bone. Im starting Paladins Grace due to your recommendation. Tx!
I hope you love it!
It was so good!! I need a sequel
I agree with all the things you have said. I usually try to just accept it and do whatever I feel like doing instead. My reading slumps usually happen when there is too much other stuff going on in my life and I feel very stressed out. TV shows can help me to get over those times.
Just finished this book today, and it was so good!!! I LOVED IT SO SO MUCH And the dual point of view broke my brain when I read it 😂😂 I gave it 5 stars but I wish I could have given more!
@@mati811 my PEOPLE! I’m so glad you loved it too 😭😭😭
That's such an interesting perspective for book recs. And I agree on all the books and series you mentioned that I have read. :D
This is one of the series I consider reading next year. Too many good series to read! :D But thanks for this review. :)
Yeeees Legendborn! Can't wait for book 3 next year. :) So happy you liked them. I really enjoyed Annihilation, but I agree, you get it or you don't. It's just reading taste. I do love me a weird horror, it's my jam. :D
Also, never ever try watching the Annihilation movie. It is so bad. SO BAD!
I’m on team didn’t get “Annihilation,” too. Glad to welcome another member! 🤝
@@KevinsNovelAdvice 😂
I'm surprised about the 5 star rating, this book didn't even seem to try with any real plot or character development/relationship growth. If you remove the food and travel descriptions 80% of the book is gone. The side characters are just convenient background props. And even Theo and Kit don't feel like well developed, multifaceted characters, especially Kit. There's no emotional buildup or payoff. Mcquiston seems to have used the gourmet and travel descriptions as replacement for any real plot or character or relationship growth.
It's interesting how two readers can have different impressions of a book! I really thought the opposite, but I know it's not going to be for everyone. Thanks for your take on this one!
That was definitely an intense reading week. :) Hope you got a good nap after finishing the vlog. Not being able to sleep is the worst!
Was the first book in the Tyranny of Faith series also gorey?
@@ZarakhCreations yes it definitely had two or three pretty violent scenes!
I have had my eyes on the Unspoken Name since it came out because I love Orcs. But then I have never heard anything enthusiastic about it. Now my interest is peaked again, and it's great to know that the second book is a must-read here.
As a teenager I have read a series by Stan Nicholls about Orcs. Probably wouldn't be a great read now, though. :D I don't know.
@@KittyAndTheBooks I hope you love it so I’m not alone in my love for this series!
It’s one of my favorite books. A book that just makes me happy. A very cute and sweet story ❤.
I love it sooooo much!!!
I don't have Tiktok, but Grace of Kings is just the best book to me. :D Tripping Arcadia is still on my list to read.
@@KittyAndTheBooks I hope you love it!
The Kingdoms sounds really interesting. Hadn’t heard of it. Maybe because I’m not on TikTok. 😅 Thanks for sharing!
@@KevinsNovelAdvice I highly recommend it!
I just finished the Poison Song today and this series is so wonderful! I will miss these characters so very much. For me, the second book was a bit disappointing, too. Aldesair and Bern have my whole heart. I also thought it was a bit sad that it ended quite abruptly. I did like the way it ended with She Who Laughs, though. Brought some tears to my eyes.
I miss this world and these characters so much!!! She Who Laughs' ending was *chef's kiss*
I am so late to this, but I am currently in the middle of Silver Under Nightfall and I wanted to know if anyone else feels the same way. I'm so glad I found this video because I also feel so...off about this relationship? Especially with how it tackles Remy's trauma. I should have already known it would be problematic as soon as Xiaodan told the Queen (and the people in the room) about Remy being groomed and coerced. It was NOT her story to tell, and it left Remy feeling ashamed and his dignity was ruined more. I know it came from a place of concern for her, but his trauma was not for her to tell so blatantly to others. It didn't give him any justice and he wasn't able to tackle that trauma. And as the story went on, I did notice a problem with consent and Zidan and Xiaodan's treatment of Remy. They babied and coddled him (even though he's a grown man) and, at times, took away his choices or right to choose, but they also don't support him that well. I also reached the hot spring scene and it really felt scummy to me as well. Even though Xiaodan told him that she didn't want to be like the Duchess and all the other noble ladies, how she treated him with the ultimatum, telling him they essentially didn't need him and he'd just be a bonus, and also doing things to him while trying to get him to decide was so disgusting to me. As for Zidan, I dislike how he treats the "romance" and Remy as well. Remy's father verbally abuses him to the point that Remy believes he is weak and stupid, so Zidan constantly tearing down his character adds to Remy's self-deprecating personality, frustration at his "lack of" skills, and his nonchalance about his own safety (usually to prove himself as someone who's worthy and strong). I am honestly just crawling slowly to the end of this book.
Thank you for this insightful and well-thought-out comment. I hope this provides additional context for folks. I'm glad I wasn't alone either in my feelings!!!
@@hannahollihan I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way as well 😭. I also realized a bit later after reading the hot springs scene that Xiaodan never let Remy talk fully? Or like work through his thoughts or feelings regarding the proposition. She kept cutting him off in favor of dumping her ultimatum on him (which is a lot considering that Remy has to work through moving from a monogamous view to a polyamorous view and also coming to terms with his attraction to men). It's really just scummy 😓
I am also about one third into Poison Song right now, and I really like it. The characters are so great.
I never see people talking about The Saint's of Steel series, i loved that series so much!
great video. love it.keep uploading.
My mid-year tag video was taken over by He Who Drowned the World, but Vintage is also an amazing favorite new character! I just started listening to Poison Song today. And I just finished listening to Mad Ship last night - the audiobooks are notoriously bad, but the story itself is great. Hope you have fun when you get to these books!
Oh no!!! I was hoping to listen to the audiobooks of The Liveship Traders! Oh well... I have the paperbacks on standby if I can't stand it! I hope you love the end of The Winnowing Flame!
@@hannahollihan I think if you go in expecting bad audiobooks, it's fine. The second book also was a bit better than the first one - or I had gotten used to it. :D
@@KittyAndTheBooks Good to know!
I’m reading some fairy tale retellings as well. I backed the Kickstarter for the omnibus of the Queen’s Rise series by Bethany Atazadeh which is a prequel series to the Stolen Kingdom series which I am reading now! (? Answered: new favorite author)
Very cool! I wish I was into fairytale retellings more... they are extremely hit or miss for me.
I also started with Nettle and Bone, and I have not read a bad book by her yet! :D I also really enjoyed Bryony and Roses, and I do not like Beauty and the Beast retelling at all. The first half of Hollow Places really was the scariest time.
Yay for new haircuts! Also, I loved that clip of the rain in the garden, and the way your dog was zooming around in it. :D Is Evocation part of a series? I am unsure rn.
The rain was such a vibe!
I really wanna get to Spear Cuts Through Water, I love stories with gods! Happy reading in June.
I hope you like it!!!!
Yasssss shower coffee!!! I'm very impressed with your library having so many 2024 releases.
We loooove the library in this house
this broke my brain. DUAL POV??!?!!
YES!!!! I WAS SHOCKED

🥷
I have read Nimona many years ago, liked it but I don't really remember it. I loved the movie though, I watched it with my mom last weekend. I think the story was completely different, or I just have a terrible memory. xD
Some of these are my favorite series of all time! Great picks. I love that almost all of these are about criminals or con-people xD Dandelion Dynasty would be at the end of the list for me, I found it so hard to read, so many horrible things happening. I guess my favorite completed series would be Lord of the Rings, I am such a clishé. :D
I still can't decide whether I like Sanderson or hate him with a passion. There are some points in his books that are too much, some that are plain badly thought out in my opinion, and some that are inconsistent, especially regarding character. I really enjoy his initial characters, the world-building, and the magic system. I don't like how every character has to be mentally sick and/or so very special. A big part of my dislike might be that I was initially kinda forced into reading the series. Parts of it I really enjoyed, parts I really genuinely did not like. It sometimes feels like Sanderson is slipping up more and more as the series continues and makes me worry that the final might not deliver. After all of that has blown over, I might revisit the series with fresh eyes, turning a blind eye to everything I currently despise. On the other hand, I know that he has a mighty fanbase, and tons of people love his books, probably with good reason. I would still love to come across any list of good recommendations without stumbling across Sanderson. Anyway, conflicting thoughts over. I just found your channel and thought to check out what kind of stuff you read and whether our taste in books might partially align. I will check out a couple of your other videos. Keep up the good work!
Great picks! Some of these I will definitely add to my TBR! I have heard great things about The Fifth Season but I'm scared to read it - it sounds so intense! My beginner recommendation is always the Shades of Magic series. ☺
I have been following the bingo board for a few years now, but I usually just see how many of the prompts I fulfill without trying. xD It's the lazy mode. You've got some of my favorite books (like Ninth Rain and Legendborn) as well as some of my most anticipated reads on your list. Hope you'll love them!
Now I'm even more excited to give those a try!!! 😁
Haha rereading teenage favorites is always a bit cringe, I love that you talk about them here. :D You've read so much! Happy reading in May. :)
Ive never had a reading journal or seen people show them before 😮
I really like your make-up 😊
Thanks! 😊
