Actually, stellar understanding of Viking humor and biology mate.
You cannot slice along the spine, you need to chop in order to break the ribs which he mentions in the next line, there is your biology.
As for Viking battle humor, I would say I'm going to cut your leg off and then smash the bones in your hand instead. You wouldn't expect it from a combat standpoint and as a prisoner you would be tensing up your leg and relaxing your hand and be completely unprepared. Without your muscles tensed up your bones are vulnerable and...nice crunch using the side or back of the axe head.

I didn't expect it right away because Ivarr's reaction to Ceolbert seemed genuine. I was angry and wanted a war but as I was riding with Ivarr, I realized that that's what he wanted all along and as we drew closer to the fort and he was telling his story, it clicked because I also thought back to Ceolbert's reaction to seeing Ivarr before he died. When Rhodri denied killing Ceolbert, I was 80% sure it was Ivarr because why the hell would Rhodri lie when war was inevitable. I did also suspect the other guy (forgot his name) for a second. The guy we were helping, a bishop I think. I thought maybe he was in the Order or something but I was pretty damn sure it was Ivarr. Anyway, this was done beautifully. I loved Ivarr as a character, even though I hated his guts for killing Ceolbert. I was seriously struggling to make a decision on whether or not to send him to Valhalla or Helheim but then I thought of the low blow he made when he insulted Eivor's father to distract him and I kicked that damn axe from his side. Man, this arc was so damn good. I don't care how much hate the game gets. I'm loving the story so far!

Coelbert was a character I genuinely cared about, when I heard he died I believed Ivarr both cause his genuine reaction and that I believed the writers wanted to add a sympathetic and compassionate element to a otherwise unstable character Ivarr who's moral compase constantly spun. I wanted revenge for Coelbert, the war that resulted from his death was a moral Crusade for me and I fought with genuine rage, when we captured the King I did want to kill him but not in a barbaric manner of a blood eagle. When Ivarr told me he killed Coelbert I was shocked both because he seemed genuine and because we had killed an innocent man in possibly one of the most aggonizing way. At this moment I spared no quarter, when Ivarr was defeated I didn't give him his axe, i let him beg like a coward as he died in fear of Hell.

Fun fact. Darby's idea for Eivor's character arc is that Eivor learns to fight for not just the honor and glory of himself, but also the honor and glory of others. I agree it’s actually a shame Valhalla got as much hate as it did bc it’s story telling is actually very good if you can look past the mediocre cutscenes and gameplay. But yes there’s definitely an implication of that especially with how Odin seems to be praising Ivarr like he wants you to honor him and give him the axe but with Dag it’s the opposite bc Dag is always challenging Eivor and calling him out which Odin has no tolerance for as he was a king himself and would’ve dealt with anyone talking the way Dag did by shaming him, which is why he tells you to shame Dag, even Eivor questions this bc Dag died fighting for what he believed in but Odin tells him that it doesn’t matter and that he got killed all the same and Eivor looks visibly confused like his ideologies wasn’t what he thought it was

But those who acted dishonourably could face eternal exclusion. The Old Icelandic Njal’s saga tells us that a Viking who had seduced his benefactor's daughter and burned down a pagan temple would be "banished from Valhalla forever." I'd imagine seducing one's benefactors daughter and betraying a person who treated you as a fatherly figure stand pretty close.
After all, it's just a belief. They way I see it, Eivor might either let their vengeful side take over or let Ivarr have peace in his final moments. It only depends on how vindictive the player makes them. Denying someone entry to Valhalla is a lowly act on behalf if whoever does it I imagine. So from the story perspective, I feel like it would depend what Eivor values more - their peace or justice for Ceolbert.

It’s a move where he dives and then rolls to either side, swinging the axe as he does it. That’s 100% in reference to the show. Ivar the Boneless from the History Channel show does this as he’s actually made a cripple (for those who don’t know) and gets around by crawling. Same, his accomplishments speak for themselves. A true Viking legend whether you like him or hate him. By the looks of the comments most ppl didn’t grant him Valhalla but I’m sure he had done worse things than kill the kid before . Yes it was messed up but let the man die like a Viking at least. He deserved it in the show and in the game.

Yea only problem is that he clearly goads you into a fight for the sake of his own glory. He doesn’t care for you as a friend he clearly only values his reputation and glory and it’s very evident when you replay the game knowing Ivarr will kill Ceolbert eventually, it’s actually surprising that nobody saw it coming including me until I replayed it and saw the forshadowing. Idc if he’s a badass historical figure he betrayed me and caused a huge war all for his own selfishness, he doesn’t deserve to die with an axe in his hand (not that Valhalla or Helheim really exist anyways bc the ending shows Valhalla is just a part of an isu simulation and is more of a metaphor for “life after death” than it being a real place dead warriors go to

I'm just rewatching this fight cause it hardly took me 20 seconds to defeat him as I was level 321 when completing this mission,(fully upgraded thegn armor set ,hel's scythe and morrigan's guard) one mark of death and a stun finish,he was finished lol.

Amazing how, especially when you discover Valhalla was merely an Isu deception to mortals and the Valkyries are long dead to the Great Catastrophe, Ivarr's belief that he would dine with the high one and fight an eternal battle in the hall of heroes was so strong that he truly did hear their wings approach as he drew his last breath.
