i literally never thought i’d see DGD on here, it’s a dream come true. I’d love to see more bands in this genre bc there’s so little information on their gear.
@@drumrundown I love that about y’all. Would love to see more prog guys in the future like Matt Halpern (gotta get all the Matt’s) or even smaller bands like Hail the Sun which really don’t have any content like this surrounding them
@@RBDrums@shilomurphy8289 YES! All great Matts there hahaha, and also I’m glad you brought up Hail the Sun! Donovan Molero is crazy talented even as a stand alone singer/songwriter or drummer. The fact that he does both, and both really well in such a musically adventurous band makes Hail the Sun a staple in this “niche” (though honestly, music like this continues to grow and sometimes even inspire work in other genres and styles). Great vid hope to see more 😄
Matt’s been my biggest inspiration for drumming since 2008! I’m still waiting to hear a breakdown of his drumming philosophies and approach to how he comes up with his ideas. It always seems so distinctive and different from any other drummers. But this was super cool to see!
The older I'm getting, this is what I want to see more of from my favorite drummers. Even if it's something artsy fartsy like, "I think of how water would sound but in drum form." I just wanna know the mindset my favorite drummers tap into.
@@shilomurphy8289 Hahaha, yeah that’s a great example! I always think if you gave 10 drummers a riff or a part, 8-9 out of 10 would come up with something relatively the same. Matt and Travis Barker are the only ones I think of that create parts that feel so good and completely different to everyone else.
I've never been a big double bass guy until my guitarist got me into Dance Gavin Dance. His double bass playing is the first time I realized double bass can be funky. I've always just thought I wasn't going to be the crazy fast double bass guy. But started trying to learn "Pray To God For Your Mother" first time I've sat down to actually work out a drum part in years. I've been doing more and more double bass and loving it because of this guy right here. Thanks for doing the Rundown! Love watching these videos!
@@drumrundown love seeing these videos. It brings me back to that nerdy drummer I was in Middle School. Always looking over the musicians friend magazines for hours and hours. Thanks for doing this!
i started drumming around 2008 in 8th grade, so definitely a Myspace kid for sure. anyways, Matt Mingus was one the first drummers from that era that really had a huge influence & DGD as well
This one was mixed by the bands FOH, we took a stereo feed mixed for the venue. Originally thought this was an interesting approach, but have now shifted to just recording the kit in the room.
his Fisrt EP was great for how young he was. Do u really play drums or listened to this guy live? Not every need to be Ken Bedene or Eloy, but this dude is insane good. ans creative as F

@@RBDrumsI feel this. Sooooo many Matt drummers. Mingus, Nichols, Gartska, Halpern, Donnelly, Cameron, Hansen... Probably more.

Mingus has long been one of my personal musical heroes. I bought my first double pedal because of this guy!👍
i love excited Matt seems to talk about this setup. This is def me if i was ever on this show haha

I was literally dreaming of Matt on DR since the channel opened
Dang! Well happy to make dreams come true. That's twice so far today!

I really need lessons from Matt. 🙏

Vic better release those sigs now bc I wanna buy their entire stock
So many cool sizes. They should release a Pokemon style poster of all their Signature Artists. GOTTA CATCH EM ALL!!! haha
Dang what was that drum part he played in the intro? Its right on the tip of my tongue
The first one is chucky vs the giant tortoise I believe
Synergy!

I think that’s a k dark crash thin on his left, not a k custom dark crash?
Ive been wondering why he now has 4 crashes up top but still primarily uses his ride cymbal as his main time keeping crash
outro was totally cream of the crop from jackpot juicer
thanks for reminding me how fun this one was!!! ⚡️
