RAW: St. Louis police chief gets emotional talking about 4 officers shot during riots

- St. Louis’ top cop got emotional while searching for answers about the violence that’s hitting the city and communities around the country following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
“There’s a pit in my stomach. I’m stunned. We need to pray for our city and pray for these officers,” Chief John Hayden said early Tuesday morning.
Four St. Louis police officers were shot while working during protests that turned into riots Monday night. All four are expected to survive.
“Some coward fired shots at officers and now we have four in the hospital. But thankfully, thank God they’re alive, “ Chief Hayden said, getting choked up and holding back tears.
“Can we make some sense out of this?" he pleaded. "That’s all I’m trying to say.”
Hayden described the agitators who turned a peaceful protest violent as “crazy people” who were hyping up the crowd. He said they threw rocks, bottles, fireworks and gas at officers.
“I don’t understand what that has to do with Mr. Floyd’s death,” the police chief said, exasperated. “Mr. Floyd’s death is tragic. But can we make something out of these kids coming down here and just started like crazy, jumping up and down, high fiving each other, flourishing pistols. I don’t know what else to say. This is horrible.”
Hayden said that smaller crowds of agitators had no intention of doing anything constructive, unlike the much larger peaceful crowd that marched through the downtown St. Louis area earlier Monday.
“What does stealing have to do with any of this? Folks came down there just to steal, just to destroy property and just to hurt officers. That was the purpose of them coming. I’m not processing that,” he said.
Looters smashed out the windows of a 7-Eleven near Pine and North 17th streets, just a couple blocks from where the officers were shot. One rioter threw a firework into the convenience store and moments later smoke started billowing out of the business. Within seconds, the store was on fire.
“I can’t describe my emotions. I just know I don’t understand what’s going on. Innocent officers being shot at,” he said to reporters.

13 black children, one as young as 2 years old was killed in gun violence in St. Louis, last year. The thought of defunding the police and allowing that to expand is incredibly narrow minded of the movement. Sometimes when we are one lane, we forget the others in the way. 11 people have died since this started. One, a black ex-officer and a black security guard were gunned down. One life traded for 11 more. Who gets accountable for that?

As a matter of fact, the government is to blame for this problem (absence of school choice, minimum wage laws, rent controls). But throwing more money at failing schools will solve nothing. I personally applaud his honesty in letting everyone know he has no idea what's going on. The police dogma of "everyone else bad! WE GOOD!" is too ingrained in him to see. This isn't about george floyd. It's about Pierson v Ray (1967) Harrlow v Fitzgerald (2001) Pearson v Callahan (2009) and why America didn't have an anti lynching law until 2018!
Those cases are the product of a policy written by JUDGES. Judges are not constitutionally allowed to form policy (schoolhouse rock 1979). The reason it's so hard to overturn these decisions because the framers were VERY clear about separation of powers from the different branches. Since it was SPELLED OUT in the document, there isn't a vehicle to nullify this policy (somehow written by judge's).
If these cases aren't reversed and qualified immunity isn't at the VERY LEAST, another our fellow Americans will be lynched next year (it could be you, me, my children. It's a scary thought) and more of our citys will burn. I don't want that for us!

The issue is not the existance of the Police, it's the existance of scumbags within the Police. If they would strike for one month it would be hell on earth, but there will be no police brutality either (which affects everybody not just blacks) or even police crime.

In a perfect world, the police should all be morally/ethically perfect. But then we wouldn't need the police because everyone would be morally/ethically perfect as well. Just take a slice of your neighborhood and think about ppl in it who aren't fair, ethical, or are just plain a**holes. Most ppl aren't that way, but there are some in every neighborhood. The same applies to the police. Since most officers aren't paid well, the demand for intelligent, responsible ppl for this position often exceeds the supply. That's where the very few bullies, action junkies, and (yes) racists come in and ruin the perception for the vast majority of good police throughout the country. And before you start talking about "all the black lives" taken by police, the stats don't lie. Out of every 10,000 arrests, 4 white ppl and 3 black ppl are unlawfully killed. As an Asian, I have no dog in this fight, but I absolutely see how all this dangerously false (and eventually socialist) rhetoric can destroy this great nation that I immigrated to.
I just want to state something real quick about the number of deaths per race: the US is primarily white, 76% as of 2019, 13.4% are Black. That disparity in percentage is nowhere near that 4:3 ratio... Please just keep that in mind when pointing those numbers out.

But yes, let's say that the deaths should also have been 5:2 Whites over Blacks for every 10k arrest instead of the 4:3 that it is. Is that 1 black life disparity for every 10k arrests enough to cry systematic racism? BTW, this should probably be distilled even further to include the types of crime they're arrested for (There were 5,025 black ppl and 4,188 white ppl arrested for murder in 2017) since that probably factors into how the cops respond towards these perps. All in all, I would think it's fair to say that the 1 per 10k arrests can be accounted for in the very tiny minority of police who are bullies, racists, or just poorly trained.

How many cases of genuine scandal worthy misconduct are there each year? Compare that to the number of cops and their encounters with the public each day, every day.
Consider that most police encounters are filmed by bodycams and dashcams, so there's nothing cops can even do to stay quiet about something.
Subtract those cases that are genuine mistakes due to cops being human, and humans making mistakes.
I think you'll find the average cop is going to be just as virtuous if not more so than your average joe and are generally doing a good job.
