I did it on my last keyboard. Didnt work. Then tried soaking it in acetone - don't do that. All the plastic dissolved :) here's me not thinking it was PLA plastic.

In case that only liquid has entered this . I had the same problem and it is not necessary to dismount the keyboard at all. Put the keyboard into the plain sun an entire day. If you don't have strong sun do the following: Switch your baking oven on the lowest level, put a towel on a baking tray and the keyboard on top of it. Let the door of the ofen open and control that it does not become too hot. The keyboard must be quite hot for a few hours and all the moisture will vaporize. After that my keyboard worked again perfectly without dismounting anything and without doing that huge work as shown in that voiceless video.

I found when doing this that the mat where the electric circuits run through is actually twice as long, folded together as one piece. There where water between the two peice, i managed to get them to fold up and removed the water, now several hours of reasembly later, the keyboard works :D

  • @BlackBullPistol

Nice video. I recommend to clean only buttons if they are stuck only in such case it is worthy to spend some time. Do not spend time if the keyboard doesn't work at all because you can't repair it, the liquid can not damage keyboard's circuitry because it is surrounded by silicone so the damage is internal, it is shorted out. Just buy a new keyboard they are cheap for a regular notebook/laptop but expensive for Apple products...

I've replaced many keyboards but never sucsessfully cleaned one, the passages where the "wires" go from key to key seems to short out and keys no longer work, not to mention getting all the keys off an on without breaking any is anything short of a miracle

Also be aware with some keyboards such as the close surfaced keys of the ADVENT keyboards even cleaning them lightly with an alcohol wet wipe will damage them. I buy cheap keyboards so should I spill anything they go in the cupboard so one rainy boooooring day i might have a tinkle with them, but then again Nope get another one. laptop integral keyboards they are easy to fit and cheap. Once the keys have worn out i replace that is why using a cheap external Mini keyboard saves the keys from wearing. :)

Good video. It's actually a waste of time except if you're really broke or you're trying to fix a keyboard for a really old laptop that you can't find anywhere. But nowadays they're available for 10-30$, way less than the labor hours you'd charge to do that.

  • @NorahsLifestyleByDesign

complicated as h*ll, but good video. You got mad skills. I spilled a sticky full 42 oz of grapefruit juice on my new Toshiba Satellite. I snatched it up and turned it upside down draining it in front of a fan. Oh sure the keyboard works alright, but when it dried half the keyboard feels like concrete is under each key when you push em down. I temporarily use an wireless USB external keyboard to resolve being able to use it. I'm usually tech savvy and bold enough to open up a phone, laptop, or desktop to repair,or replace parts. But not this time. This one is new, and if I do this and it fails, I'm done...

vacuum it then wait for it to dry and bring it to the apple store. i dont know what the hell this is but i'm not doing it.
next time you should keep your drink an arms length away from your precious electronic equipment, or on the floor or a lower level. that way if it does spill, you can speedily snatch your laptop away before it reaches.

You forgot to tell people how incredibly difficult it can be to get the keys back on with many models. Mine is a Lenovo L540 and I popped a few keys of. The latch attachment is so complicated that I cannot get it back together. And neither can anyone at the PC repair store. So I ordered a new keyboard. They make it sound so easy to remove and re-attach the keys. Unless you are a brain surgeon and can manipulate almost microscopic parts with special tools. Getting the key off is easy. Getting it back on can be next to impossible. At least with my model of ThinkPad. Taking off the keys is a last resort in my opinion.

Don't know what your keyboard looks like, but mine, Samsung R522 looks more or less like the one in the video. Taking keys out is easy, putting them back in is even easier as you only need to allign the key and press it against the mechanism, it locks into place straight away.

The only way I was able to fix my laptop keyboard, (the one I am typing this on) was by the following method. 1. Completely take the keyboard out from the laptop. 2 Using Rubbing Alcohol 91% completely immerse the entire keyboard in it for about 3-4 minutes while "swooshing" it back and forth in the alcohol. 3. Take it out from the alcohol and place the keyboard in a dryer with a rack. You need to have a clothes dryer that has stationary rack, a fan would also work. Dry on LOW for about 5-10 minutes and on MEDIUM for about 1-2 minutes. Check keyboard in dryer so that its not too hot our it could melt it. After that I installed it worked like normal.

When ever I drop a cell phone in water or spill Milk on my laptop from my bowel of cereal I take the battery out Really fast I use 90% or 70% will work too ( isopropyl alcohol) I take my phone or laptop apart and use a toothbrush with a cup of alcohol and dip and brush the electronics clean. For the keyboard I pour the alcohol bottle right in it. Let dry for a day and put it all back together. I have saved 3 cell phones and 1 laptop using this method.

Holy fuck balls that looked awfully eternal slumber to do.
Do what i did, remove the goddamn keyboard module and sink it in a warm soapy water and shake it off to loosen the stain then allow it dry. Let it dry by placing it in front of a house hold fan, then once dried, pour 70% isopropyl alcohol enough to cover all parts. It will dry quickly because of the alcohol consistency. Reinstall the module and viola 👏 👏 👏 .

You don't have to specifically take ALL the keys out. I've had the same problems with my G and H. They didn't work, so I had a friend help me out. You're able to take out only the keys that don't work, and you can then see the rest or just if you know the rest, do it.

    • @CarthagoMike
      @CarthagoMike 8 лет назад +1

You don't necessarily have to. If a few keys are affected, it is either a problem with those exact keys or with the row in which those keys are placed and communicate with the computer. However, if you are disassembling your keyboard anyways it is a nice opportunity to clean all the keys so that the dirt won't cause errors later on.
