I live in Sydney. In September I visited Madrid for 5 nights. Madrid is amazing! It was alive and full of people that at times it was overwhelming. There are fantastic restaurants, great museums, lively bars, amazing terrace bars, and great high speed train connections to other parts of spain..when I returned to Sydney, I felt that the city was dead..everything closes early. Forget being able to have dinner after 9pm! People do not go out every night like they did in Madrid. People here just work, eat dinner at 6pm and then watch TV at home..So in my opinion, your experience is typical for anyone who experiences another city and culture that is different to what they are usually accustomed to 😉
I think that's just USA/British culture/legacy. I live in the USA and American society is dry or boring. It's just work long hours underpaid and eat dinner in front of TV with enough time to shower. Do it all over again tomorrow. That's the American Dream right there. Spain and Latin American countries are "Alive" Of course, places do close and people do sleep at some point, but its definitely after 9PM Actually, as a Mexican all the negative of Mexico you hear in world wide news doesn't apply or make sense unless you are Mexican. For example back in the good old days you could walk without fear even at 3AM now de facto curfew is like 10-12PM So yes, from a Mexican perspective things are bad; but foreigners saying things are bad is nonsense. They don't have a point of reference from living in Mexico to begin with. It's all hearsay and assumptions being fed to them by political agendas. But I'm getting side tracked.
Todo es relativo, no? Yo crecí toda mi vida en un suburbio estadounidense, luego estudié en Madrid por un cuatrimestre y me encantó que la ciudad fue tan facilmente transitable (no hay que conducir!), con tantas cosas diferentes para hacer en cualquier parte comparado con mi ciudad ya aburrida.
For someone from Seoul who’s now living in Barcelona, this video is super interesting. Normally what people hate about Seoul is how crowded every part of the city is! Yo también soy madrileño de pura cepa y llevo viviendo en Madrid más de 60 años, he viajado algo y tengo conocimiento de algunas ciudades, por ejemplo: París, Roma, Lisboa, Nápoles, Oporto, Nueva York, Barcelona, Milán, Turín, Atenas, etc. Y jamás he tenido esa sensación que tú comentas. Por supuesto que hay ciudades en las que he visto cosas que me gustan mucho y otras que no me gustan tanto, pero ninguna de ellas hace que mi sentimiento hacia Madrid sea mejor o peor. No voy a decir que Madrid sea la mejor capital del mundo, porque me imagino que eso irá en el gusto de cada uno, pero después de toda una vida aquí, Madrid me sigue encantando, con sus virtudes y sus defectos.
Tengo 10 años en Corea y odio este país. Qué suerte que eres española y tienes un país. Yo soy venezolano y no tengo un país al cual regresar. Con 10 años viviendo y trabajando en universidades, por cierto, dando clases de español, te puedo decir que una cosa es venir de turista por un año y otra muy diferente es quedarse a vivir. El 100% de los extranjeros en Corea se terminan yendo a los 3 años, hartos del racismo, la xenofobia, la discriminación, la falta de educación, la falta de amabilidad, la superficialidad y el egocentrismo de su gente, lo deprimentes que son sus ciudades y lo egoístas que son sus habitantes. ¡Qué suerte que vives en Madrid! Para mí, Madrid está fenomenal de todas formas. Creo que eso depende de donde viene a cada uno. Yo vengo de Filipinas en la ciudad de Cebú y la verdad es que aquí? Es terrible!! Los transportes público, los lugares (no hay parques) mucho tráfico y contaminación. Para ir al trabajo de más o menos 5km sería una hora o más pero en Madrid? Ufff menos de una hora. También me gusta mucho que Madrid tiene la naturaleza, los parques y la gente se puede caminar por todos lados. Aquí? No se puede, aparte de que no hay aceras para caminar, te muere del calor y ls contaminación del aire.
I've traveled to a lot of countries and visited many beautiful cities. Most European capitals are wonderful and some of the smaller cities are good too. But Madrid is special for me, i can just stay there doing nothing, just walking the street in any weather and i feel so good. I like the architecture, i like slightly standoffish but in a nice way people, i like their manner of speaking, i like how the city is planned and it's public transport and it's public spaces. I also eat very well when i'm in madrid.
Have you been to Istanbul with 20 millions inhabitants. After living there for 4 months I came back to my 1,5 millon city. That's when I felt a huge difference 😊 two seas connected by Bosphorus plus 😍✨
Come visit Vigo. We have mountains, sea and rivers galore. 🙂 It's a very small city, but even though we came from a city of 7+ million in the U.S., we don't get bored here because we love nature. When we do get bored, we go to London or another large city to eat some different food, go to museums and the theater, etc.

A mí me paso todo lo contrario, al ser de la ciudad de méxico, que es muy parecida a Seúl en tamaño y población, al llegar a Madrid todo me gustó, la cercanía de los lugares, en prácticamente 30 min podía ir a cualquier lugar de la ciudad, los lugares turísticos conocerlos incluso a pie, la organización, limpieza y sobre todo, la tranquilidad que aún podía disfrutar en esa ciudad, ciudad de méxico es una locura, una locura que me encanta, pero que de vez en cuando está bueno descansar y vivir más tranquilamente.
Es que soy de São Paulo y estoy de acuerdo contigo. Con el tiempo, te vas a cansar de vivir con muchísima gente y información... Y además es muy difícil hacer nuevos amigos en lugares tan grandes.
Llevo toda mi vida viviendo en Madrid y me sigo quedando embobado con su arquitectura. Museos, palacios, parques... No he estado en Seúl, pero he viajado mucho y no querría vivir en otro sitio.
Viviendo en Moscú, la ciudad realmente enorme, viajando 1,5 horas a mi Universidad y lo mismo de vuelta cada día, no puedo estar más de acuerdo. Siento cansado solo por viajando, y luego tengo que trabajar o estudiar. Moscú también tiene famosos museos, palacios y parques, excelente transporte público, pero para mi hay algo que es tan importante. No quiero vivir bajo tierra ni en congestiónes. Viví algunos años en España y en Latinoamerica, y recuerdo que acogedor fui Madrid.
Korea sufre del centralismo , Dónde las personas migran a la capital en busca de mejores oportunidades , siendo la más desarrollada del país a diferencia de España que tiene muchas ciudades desarrolladas que te ofrecen mismas oportunidades que en la capital

Entiendo perfectamente! He vivido en España, Francia y Londres y ahora vivo en mi pueblo donde nací con mi madre y me siento enterada porque conozco toda la ciudad. Es aburrido porque no hay cosas interesantes para explorar. Me encanta vivir en nuevos lugares porque cada día puedes salir y encontrar algo nuevo. Vivía en Asturias muy cerca del mar y me encantaba mucho, no hay mucha gente pero hay el mar, las montañas etc. Es muy bonito. También hice el Erasmus en Madrid. Me gustó pero me parecía una ciudad de bares y salir de noche y eso no es para mi. Pero como ciudad capital es verdad que parece pequeña en comparación con Londres o Nueva York. Crees que vas a volver a Seoul? Me gusta este tipo de vídeo ☺️

Madrid es más una ciudad para salir y no es mi estilo, y comparada con muchas otras capitales es pequeñita jajajaj asturias y sitios con montañas y naturaleza son un sueño, y en el futuro viajaré mucho, pero por ahora tengo que estar en Madrid un poco más, e intentaré disfrutar de la ciudad y esta época de la vida lo máximo posible! El área metropolitana de Madrid son casi 6 millones de habitantes. Es la segunda ciudad más grande de la Unión Europea y la quinta más grande del continente europeo después de Istanbul, Moscú, Londres y Paris. No hay ciudades tan grandes como Madrid ni en Alemania ni en Italia. Ni Berlin, ni Milán ni siquiera si sumas las varias ciudades que conforman la región alemana del Ruhr en una sola "mega ciudad". De estar situada en los Estados Unidos, sería la segunda ciudad mas grande del país despues de Nueva York. Y concentrado en un territorio muchísimo más pequeño, por lo que es una ciudad "de verdad", no kilometros y kilometros de "chalets". No sé de dónde te sacas la idea de que Madrid es pequeña. Lo único que es pequeño es el centro - y el río Manzanares, claro.
Ver su cuidad de otra manera al regresar, lo entiendo perfectamente. Me paso con Paris, mi cuidad, al regresar de mi Erasmus que pase justamente en Madrid. Pero de una manera distincta, sigue queriendo muchissimo a mi cuidad pero solia decir "me gustaria poder traer aqui en Paris la gente de Madrid, la manera de vivir, lo bares, el sol..." De hecho tuve un bajon (algo que pasa a todos los Erasmus me parece). Al mismo tiempo te queria decir que cambiar de pais, cuidad es una cosa maravillosa, lo hice e lo voy a hacer de nuevo, si puedes hazlo, pero nunca olvidas que aburrirse en cualquer lugar (hasta su casa) es una creacion de la mente, todo puede ser maravilloso si cambiamos nuestra forma de pensar y mirar, enfin, aprovechar el momento presente, sea donde sea, porque en el momento estas exactamente donde debes estar. I’m from the hague and have lived in madrid and istanbul. I agree with needing a large city with plenty to do and nature close by. I need a city to be inspiring and alive but also moving forward. I’m curious what you would think of the hague, come visit!

Every city in the world has its problems. I still think that Madrid is one of the most liveable cities in Europe. Soy de Praga, but I remember Madrid as very clean, very good public transport, reasonable salaries, reasonable prices, more relaxed attitude for a big city and those mountains around are absolutely stunning. But I have been there just for 5 months. Before coming to Madrid I thought Spain is a little bit chaotic and people are kinda slow there with super high unemployment for decades, just like in some southern Italy or Balkan, but when I came I discovered its actually really developed, people work just like in any other western European city and the life quality is probably relatively similar to France or UK in some regions.
hahahah funny perspective, yeah, it's quite nice I guess, but these days the cost of living it's going up, and most people are waiting for their salaries to go up as well, but no such luck yet --

I was born in Madrid and then we moved to the States when I was a baby. I can hear Spanish and understand the majority of what people say, but I was not quite fully speaking by the time we left. My sister was she was about 5 when we left. She was so traumatized learning English that she forgot all her Spanish. My father is fluent, but he traveled all the time with the Air Force, so as a 42 year old woman I'm getting back into learning and I have to say my listening and comprehension is getting better. 😁

As a Spanish speaker from Latin America I consider that the best of Madrid is their people, the way they speak, expressions, sympathy, humor, gestures, manners ( not neccesary polite, but direct as a like). I love London, Berlin, Paris. But the place where I feel the best is Madrid. I have been in Barcelona many times and it is a lower level (as a visitor experience) in everything, except for seafood. Also,for some weird reason, they speak their local language in the streets with strangers, not at home, family and friends as everyone who speaks a minority language of the world.

Funny, as a Korean-American, although I’m very proud of Korean people and what they’ve accomplished, I actually hate living in Korea. I feel there’s so much social pressure, bloated pride, materialism, and although yes, subways maybe great, but traffic is awful. Still remember 3-4 hour commutes to work and back by company bus. I think it’s natural for people often to be critical and dislike the place they were born in, no? I think lots of Koreans if they were given a choice would move to Spain in a heartbeat, if not for friends, family, language barrier, etc. obviously not all Koreans, but many. Most hate the huge city. Btw, 9 million is just solo Seoul, not the adjacent districts that are stuck to Seoul. Altogether population is many many times 9 million. Too many people, and most are so opinionated as hell and set in their ways. And the river? I’m an old fart, I remember when that river was so polluted, and only maybe 2 decades ago, was cleaned out. It was a major national undertaking cleaning the pollution from that foul dead river. They cleaned it for sake of national pride. Koreans did do an amazing job of cleaning out, I mean imagine, one of the most polluted rivers in the world rivaling any polluted river in Bangladesh or China or Indonesia, etc., within a few years, completely cleaned out and returned to nature. But, yeah, there’s something artificial about that; the cleanliness of that river isn’t natural - it’s artificially clean, if you know what I mean? Like so many of Korean historic monuments, virtually all are reconstructions because no building survived the bombing during the wars. On average was something like a bomb for every 3-4 square meters of Korean soil. But my point, the historic buildings aren’t original but modern reconstructions(fakes), which most tourist would never know. Yeah. Koreans are incredible. But, they are incredible, because of all the social pressures, and a need to prove themselves and be recognized, etc. There’s so much social pressure to be the best, and hence, so much cosmetic surgery, and suicides by doctors. One day the morale could collapse like the lie down movement happening in China. Credit debt is so high and suicide, alcoholism, and now, like Japan, homelessness rising crazy. Think on this, most Korean women don’t drink alcohol, but Korea is often second in world for alcohol consumption just behind Germany. Yeah, let that sink in. Not to mention racism - you’re very attractive and white, and probably got reverse racism,(favoritism - you’re the type Koreans of both sexes love/envy/ have cosmetic surgery to look like. Attractive white female who is harmless and European)as someone who’s attractive to Korean sensibilities, and got treated better, more than likely better than Koreans likely treat other Koreans, and hence ofc, your views may not be typical, but I think Korea would still suck for those of African heritage for most part, for example. Thais for example are treated horribly and not easy to enter Korea. Most Southeast Asians are discriminate against. Thais right now favor Japan for this reason. As a Korean-American, I faced so much racism in Korea, it was hilarious. All my white friends got treated so well, while I got treated often like dirt. Can’t have toilet paper in public restrooms - cause everyone would steal the rolls. Yes, that’s why you have to buy the tissue at the vending machines in front of the toilets, because people stole them. Like I said, I’m very proud of my heritage and Korean people. Absolutely some of the most incredible people on the planet. Koreans are largely also some of the nicest people, despite all the bad points I’ve said. Loyal too, to a fault. And if they see evil, they will strive to fix it. I believe that. But like the Japanese who they hate, Koreans have their own secrets and dirty laundry they don’t air. And it’s even sad that population is declining like in so many Asian countries, and likely we will be extinct as a race in a hundred years(same as Japanese), and if it happens, world will be a poorer place for not having Koreans, but, just saying, we have our own problems. Not so rosy as you paint. And god, why in such a small country everyone gotta drive the biggest damn SUVs? At least in Japan, everyone drives small cars, minds their own business, and more crowded the restaurant, the more quiet Japanese get. Koreans drive bigger and bigger cars, get louder in crowded restaurants, and routinely get in their neighbors business. It’s their flaws, but at the same time, their charm, so don’t think that I’m only berating them. Just saying pros and cons, and that it depends on perspective. Argh, and all the young people buying Ferraris on loan as status symbols because compensating. Ermmm… Korea is amazing, but Spain is envied world over too. But guess what, you don’t live just in Madrid, we all live in the world? No? 🤷♂️ Worst is Xenophobia and stupid visas and immigration requirements. Haha.
Yo caminé el camino de Santiago dos veces, el Francés y el Norte, y sé que España tiene de todo. Por qué no te mudas para otra parte? País Vasco es lindo lindo, tiene de mar y montaña. O por qué no te mudas a la Catalunya? Precioso también, con montaña y Mar. Toda la costa Brava es preciosa! O múdate a las Canarias o a las Baleares? A mi me encantaría vivir en cualquier de estos lugares qué nombré yo. Impresionantes. Si es cuestión de cantidad de personas, pues allí estás, todos aquellos lugares tienen menos gente. Pues, no conozco Madrid, pero conozco la Asia. Mucha mucha gente!! Congestionada pa caralho! No gracias. Te entiendo, después de vivir en otra parte, pues, es difícil quedarse donde nace y no experimentar otros lugares. A mis 18 me mudé a Hawai, viví en Chile cómo estudiante de intercambio, luego viajé desde mis 23 años hasta mis 33, más o menos, 5 años en total en el extranjero, y ya puedo imaginarme en muchos de aquellos lugares por hacer pasado tiempo en ellos. Lo que digo, es hazlo mientras estes joven. Yo viví en Honolulu casi 20 años mientras viajaba y estudiaba, con 250,000 habitantes en unos 10 cuadras de la playa, con un millón de personas en la isla pequeña. Hace 4 años me mudé a la isla grande de Hawai, y ya vivo con 16,000 habitantes en mi pueblo en total. Mucho mejor para mi!! No puedo salir hasta las 4 de la mañana, pero no hay mucha gente, ni tráfico, ni surfistas robándome las olas. Tengo ya casa con propiedad en vez de vivir en apartamento sin espacio. Tengo 7 papayas en mi patio, pocos vecinos, nada de tráfico, y veo el mar desde mi patio. En Honolulu, estaba a dos cuadras de la playa pero no podía verla por todos los edificios. No gracias. Pues, múdate y vivir tu vida a tu gusto. No te quedes en lugar donde no sientes tu ser auténtico. La vida es cortita y vuela más rápida con cada año qué pase.
Tu canal es genial ayuda muchissimo a la gente que quiere aprender español. Vivo en la India y es lo mismo, gente por todas partes. Despues de 4 años tengo un poco de miedo de volver a Barcelona y sentir que esta vacío!

I recently visited Spain for two months with the purpose of deciding whether I would like to move there and to which city. I am mostly considering Madrid or Barcelona. Both seem to have pluses and minuses. Welcome back! I enjoy your channel and it helps me practice my Spanish as well.
I'd been to Seoul and Busan back in 2017 and I went to visit Madrid and Barcelona in 2022.. I would say I like Madrid better than Seoul.. That's why I'm here watching your videos, atleast to learn to speak Spanish :)

Madrid is a bit cramped. Remember traveling on a rented car from Barajas to Estaio Snt Bernabeu, to visit my colleagues at nbcuni at the playa del Torres (in case I remember everything correctly). Centre of the city is a bit cramped. Nice, but I understand what you are talking about. Come visit Kyiv after the war. It’s almost identical in terms of population, but it’s bigger than Madrid due to the huge river and green zones/hills. Not Seoul (which is nice), but quite diverse due to geography.

Cuando voy a Madrid, yo que soy pueblerino de Extremadura, me parece una pedazo de ciudad. Variada, completa, no le falta de nada... pero tienes razón en lo que has dicho, es pequeña en cuanto a longitud y tiene todo lo interesante concentrado en ese "pequeño" recinto. El extrarradio son todo barrios grises, pisos y fábricas adónde van los trabajadores un día sí y otro también, sin cambiar mucho la rutina de las personas. Está bien para vivir un tiempo, pero entiendo que se te quede pequeña y te agobies. A mí me pasó exactamente lo mismo con la ciudad de Toledo, que me parece perfecta en cuanto a cultura (aunque mucho menos variada y pequeña que una gran ciudad como Madrid) pero en 9 meses que viví allí acabé hartísimo. Todas las ciudades de España me parecen lo mismo. Al que se mueve de su pueblo a la ciudad o al inmigrante que viene es posible que disfrute mucho en estas ciudades. Buena reflexión y saludos.

I live in Sydney. In September I visited Madrid for 5 nights. Madrid is amazing! It was alive and full of people that at times it was overwhelming. There are fantastic restaurants, great museums, lively bars, amazing terrace bars, and great high speed train connections to other parts of spain..when I returned to Sydney, I felt that the city was dead..everything closes early. Forget being able to have dinner after 9pm! People do not go out every night like they did in Madrid. People here just work, eat dinner at 6pm and then watch TV at home..So in my opinion, your experience is typical for anyone who experiences another city and culture that is different to what they are usually accustomed to 😉

I think that's just USA/British culture/legacy. I live in the USA and American society is dry or boring. It's just work long hours underpaid and eat dinner in front of TV with enough time to shower. Do it all over again tomorrow. That's the American Dream right there.

Actually, as a Mexican all the negative of Mexico you hear in world wide news doesn't apply or make sense unless you are Mexican. For example back in the good old days you could walk without fear even at 3AM now de facto curfew is like 10-12PM So yes, from a Mexican perspective things are bad; but foreigners saying things are bad is nonsense. They don't have a point of reference from living in Mexico to begin with. It's all hearsay and assumptions being fed to them by political agendas. But I'm getting side tracked.

Yo también soy madrileño de pura cepa y llevo viviendo en Madrid más de 60 años, he viajado algo y tengo conocimiento de algunas ciudades, por ejemplo: París, Roma, Lisboa, Nápoles, Oporto, Nueva York, Barcelona, Milán, Turín, Atenas, etc. Y jamás he tenido esa sensación que tú comentas. Por supuesto que hay ciudades en las que he visto cosas que me gustan mucho y otras que no me gustan tanto, pero ninguna de ellas hace que mi sentimiento hacia Madrid sea mejor o peor. No voy a decir que Madrid sea la mejor capital del mundo, porque me imagino que eso irá en el gusto de cada uno, pero después de toda una vida aquí, Madrid me sigue encantando, con sus virtudes y sus defectos.

Para mí, Madrid está fenomenal de todas formas. Creo que eso depende de donde viene a cada uno. Yo vengo de Filipinas en la ciudad de Cebú y la verdad es que aquí? Es terrible!! Los transportes público, los lugares (no hay parques) mucho tráfico y contaminación. Para ir al trabajo de más o menos 5km sería una hora o más pero en Madrid? Ufff menos de una hora. También me gusta mucho que Madrid tiene la naturaleza, los parques y la gente se puede caminar por todos lados. Aquí? No se puede, aparte de que no hay aceras para caminar, te muere del calor y ls contaminación del aire.
I've traveled to a lot of countries and visited many beautiful cities. Most European capitals are wonderful and some of the smaller cities are good too. But Madrid is special for me, i can just stay there doing nothing, just walking the street in any weather and i feel so good. I like the architecture, i like slightly standoffish but in a nice way people, i like their manner of speaking, i like how the city is planned and it's public transport and it's public spaces. I also eat very well when i'm in madrid.
Have you been to Istanbul with 20 millions inhabitants. After living there for 4 months I came back to my 1,5 millon city. That's when I felt a huge difference 😊 two seas connected by Bosphorus plus 😍✨

Come visit Vigo. We have mountains, sea and rivers galore. 🙂 It's a very small city, but even though we came from a city of 7+ million in the U.S., we don't get bored here because we love nature. When we do get bored, we go to London or another large city to eat some different food, go to museums and the theater, etc.

A mí me paso todo lo contrario, al ser de la ciudad de méxico, que es muy parecida a Seúl en tamaño y población, al llegar a Madrid todo me gustó, la cercanía de los lugares, en prácticamente 30 min podía ir a cualquier lugar de la ciudad, los lugares turísticos conocerlos incluso a pie, la organización, limpieza y sobre todo, la tranquilidad que aún podía disfrutar en esa ciudad, ciudad de méxico es una locura, una locura que me encanta, pero que de vez en cuando está bueno descansar y vivir más tranquilamente.
Es que soy de São Paulo y estoy de acuerdo contigo. Con el tiempo, te vas a cansar de vivir con muchísima gente y información... Y además es muy difícil hacer nuevos amigos en lugares tan grandes.

Llevo toda mi vida viviendo en Madrid y me sigo quedando embobado con su arquitectura. Museos, palacios, parques... No he estado en Seúl, pero he viajado mucho y no querría vivir en otro sitio.
Viviendo en Moscú, la ciudad realmente enorme, viajando 1,5 horas a mi Universidad y lo mismo de vuelta cada día, no puedo estar más de acuerdo. Siento cansado solo por viajando, y luego tengo que trabajar o estudiar. Moscú también tiene famosos museos, palacios y parques, excelente transporte público, pero para mi hay algo que es tan importante. No quiero vivir bajo tierra ni en congestiónes.
Viví algunos años en España y en Latinoamerica, y recuerdo que acogedor fui Madrid.
Korea sufre del centralismo , Dónde las personas migran a la capital en busca de mejores oportunidades , siendo la más desarrollada del país a diferencia de España que tiene muchas ciudades desarrolladas que te ofrecen mismas oportunidades que en la capital

Entiendo perfectamente! He vivido en España, Francia y Londres y ahora vivo en mi pueblo donde nací con mi madre y me siento enterada porque conozco toda la ciudad. Es aburrido porque no hay cosas interesantes para explorar. Me encanta vivir en nuevos lugares porque cada día puedes salir y encontrar algo nuevo. Vivía en Asturias muy cerca del mar y me encantaba mucho, no hay mucha gente pero hay el mar, las montañas etc. Es muy bonito. También hice el Erasmus en Madrid. Me gustó pero me parecía una ciudad de bares y salir de noche y eso no es para mi. Pero como ciudad capital es verdad que parece pequeña en comparación con Londres o Nueva York. Crees que vas a volver a Seoul? Me gusta este tipo de vídeo ☺️

El área metropolitana de Madrid son casi 6 millones de habitantes. Es la segunda ciudad más grande de la Unión Europea y la quinta más grande del continente europeo después de Istanbul, Moscú, Londres y Paris.
No hay ciudades tan grandes como Madrid ni en Alemania ni en Italia. Ni Berlin, ni Milán ni siquiera si sumas las varias ciudades que conforman la región alemana del Ruhr en una sola "mega ciudad".
De estar situada en los Estados Unidos, sería la segunda ciudad mas grande del país despues de Nueva York. Y concentrado en un territorio muchísimo más pequeño, por lo que es una ciudad "de verdad", no kilometros y kilometros de "chalets".
No sé de dónde te sacas la idea de que Madrid es pequeña. Lo único que es pequeño es el centro - y el río Manzanares, claro.

Ver su cuidad de otra manera al regresar, lo entiendo perfectamente. Me paso con Paris, mi cuidad, al regresar de mi Erasmus que pase justamente en Madrid. Pero de una manera distincta, sigue queriendo muchissimo a mi cuidad pero solia decir "me gustaria poder traer aqui en Paris la gente de Madrid, la manera de vivir, lo bares, el sol..." De hecho tuve un bajon (algo que pasa a todos los Erasmus me parece).
Al mismo tiempo te queria decir que cambiar de pais, cuidad es una cosa maravillosa, lo hice e lo voy a hacer de nuevo, si puedes hazlo, pero nunca olvidas que aburrirse en cualquer lugar (hasta su casa) es una creacion de la mente, todo puede ser maravilloso si cambiamos nuestra forma de pensar y mirar, enfin, aprovechar el momento presente, sea donde sea, porque en el momento estas exactamente donde debes estar.

Every city in the world has its problems. I still think that Madrid is one of the most liveable cities in Europe. Soy de Praga, but I remember Madrid as very clean, very good public transport, reasonable salaries, reasonable prices, more relaxed attitude for a big city and those mountains around are absolutely stunning. But I have been there just for 5 months. Before coming to Madrid I thought Spain is a little bit chaotic and people are kinda slow there with super high unemployment for decades, just like in some southern Italy or Balkan, but when I came I discovered its actually really developed, people work just like in any other western European city and the life quality is probably relatively similar to France or UK in some regions.
hahahah funny perspective, yeah, it's quite nice I guess, but these days the cost of living it's going up, and most people are waiting for their salaries to go up as well, but no such luck yet --
Obvious, Madrid is Europe's leader in almost every field and even world leader in some things, we are talking about an unparalleled city.

I was born in Madrid and then we moved to the States when I was a baby. I can hear Spanish and understand the majority of what people say, but I was not quite fully speaking by the time we left. My sister was she was about 5 when we left. She was so traumatized learning English that she forgot all her Spanish. My father is fluent, but he traveled all the time with the Air Force, so as a 42 year old woman I'm getting back into learning and I have to say my listening and comprehension is getting better. 😁

Realmente sentí lo mismo por mi ciudad! No me gustaba vivi allí y tampoco podía explicar las razones. Cuando me mudé a otra ciudad y también tuve la experiencia de viajar ale xtranjero, descubrí las razones por las que no gustava allí, así que entiendo perfectamente tus sentimientos
As a Spanish speaker from Latin America I consider that the best of Madrid is their people, the way they speak, expressions, sympathy, humor, gestures, manners ( not neccesary polite, but direct as a like). I love London, Berlin, Paris. But the place where I feel the best is Madrid. I have been in Barcelona many times and it is a lower level (as a visitor experience) in everything, except for seafood. Also,for some weird reason, they speak their local language in the streets with strangers, not at home, family and friends as everyone who speaks a minority language of the world.

Funny, as a Korean-American, although I’m very proud of Korean people and what they’ve accomplished, I actually hate living in Korea. I feel there’s so much social pressure, bloated pride, materialism, and although yes, subways maybe great, but traffic is awful. Still remember 3-4 hour commutes to work and back by company bus. I think it’s natural for people often to be critical and dislike the place they were born in, no? I think lots of Koreans if they were given a choice would move to Spain in a heartbeat, if not for friends, family, language barrier, etc. obviously not all Koreans, but many. Most hate the huge city. Btw, 9 million is just solo Seoul, not the adjacent districts that are stuck to Seoul. Altogether population is many many times 9 million. Too many people, and most are so opinionated as hell and set in their ways. And the river? I’m an old fart, I remember when that river was so polluted, and only maybe 2 decades ago, was cleaned out. It was a major national undertaking cleaning the pollution from that foul dead river. They cleaned it for sake of national pride. Koreans did do an amazing job of cleaning out, I mean imagine, one of the most polluted rivers in the world rivaling any polluted river in Bangladesh or China or Indonesia, etc., within a few years, completely cleaned out and returned to nature. But, yeah, there’s something artificial about that; the cleanliness of that river isn’t natural - it’s artificially clean, if you know what I mean? Like so many of Korean historic monuments, virtually all are reconstructions because no building survived the bombing during the wars. On average was something like a bomb for every 3-4 square meters of Korean soil. But my point, the historic buildings aren’t original but modern reconstructions(fakes), which most tourist would never know. Yeah. Koreans are incredible. But, they are incredible, because of all the social pressures, and a need to prove themselves and be recognized, etc. There’s so much social pressure to be the best, and hence, so much cosmetic surgery, and suicides by doctors. One day the morale could collapse like the lie down movement happening in China. Credit debt is so high and suicide, alcoholism, and now, like Japan, homelessness rising crazy. Think on this, most Korean women don’t drink alcohol, but Korea is often second in world for alcohol consumption just behind Germany. Yeah, let that sink in. Not to mention racism - you’re very attractive and white, and probably got reverse racism,(favoritism - you’re the type Koreans of both sexes love/envy/ have cosmetic surgery to look like. Attractive white female who is harmless and European)as someone who’s attractive to Korean sensibilities, and got treated better, more than likely better than Koreans likely treat other Koreans, and hence ofc, your views may not be typical, but I think Korea would still suck for those of African heritage for most part, for example. Thais for example are treated horribly and not easy to enter Korea. Most Southeast Asians are discriminate against. Thais right now favor Japan for this reason. As a Korean-American, I faced so much racism in Korea, it was hilarious. All my white friends got treated so well, while I got treated often like dirt. Can’t have toilet paper in public restrooms - cause everyone would steal the rolls. Yes, that’s why you have to buy the tissue at the vending machines in front of the toilets, because people stole them. Like I said, I’m very proud of my heritage and Korean people. Absolutely some of the most incredible people on the planet. Koreans are largely also some of the nicest people, despite all the bad points I’ve said. Loyal too, to a fault. And if they see evil, they will strive to fix it. I believe that. But like the Japanese who they hate, Koreans have their own secrets and dirty laundry they don’t air. And it’s even sad that population is declining like in so many Asian countries, and likely we will be extinct as a race in a hundred years(same as Japanese), and if it happens, world will be a poorer place for not having Koreans, but, just saying, we have our own problems. Not so rosy as you paint. And god, why in such a small country everyone gotta drive the biggest damn SUVs? At least in Japan, everyone drives small cars, minds their own business, and more crowded the restaurant, the more quiet Japanese get. Koreans drive bigger and bigger cars, get louder in crowded restaurants, and routinely get in their neighbors business. It’s their flaws, but at the same time, their charm, so don’t think that I’m only berating them. Just saying pros and cons, and that it depends on perspective. Argh, and all the young people buying Ferraris on loan as status symbols because compensating. Ermmm… Korea is amazing, but Spain is envied world over too. But guess what, you don’t live just in Madrid, we all live in the world? No? 🤷♂️ Worst is Xenophobia and stupid visas and immigration requirements. Haha.
Yo caminé el camino de Santiago dos veces, el Francés y el Norte, y sé que España tiene de todo. Por qué no te mudas para otra parte? País Vasco es lindo lindo, tiene de mar y montaña. O por qué no te mudas a la Catalunya? Precioso también, con montaña y Mar. Toda la costa Brava es preciosa! O múdate a las Canarias o a las Baleares? A mi me encantaría vivir en cualquier de estos lugares qué nombré yo. Impresionantes. Si es cuestión de cantidad de personas, pues allí estás, todos aquellos lugares tienen menos gente. Pues, no conozco Madrid, pero conozco la Asia. Mucha mucha gente!! Congestionada pa caralho! No gracias. Te entiendo, después de vivir en otra parte, pues, es difícil quedarse donde nace y no experimentar otros lugares. A mis 18 me mudé a Hawai, viví en Chile cómo estudiante de intercambio, luego viajé desde mis 23 años hasta mis 33, más o menos, 5 años en total en el extranjero, y ya puedo imaginarme en muchos de aquellos lugares por hacer pasado tiempo en ellos. Lo que digo, es hazlo mientras estes joven. Yo viví en Honolulu casi 20 años mientras viajaba y estudiaba, con 250,000 habitantes en unos 10 cuadras de la playa, con un millón de personas en la isla pequeña. Hace 4 años me mudé a la isla grande de Hawai, y ya vivo con 16,000 habitantes en mi pueblo en total. Mucho mejor para mi!! No puedo salir hasta las 4 de la mañana, pero no hay mucha gente, ni tráfico, ni surfistas robándome las olas. Tengo ya casa con propiedad en vez de vivir en apartamento sin espacio. Tengo 7 papayas en mi patio, pocos vecinos, nada de tráfico, y veo el mar desde mi patio. En Honolulu, estaba a dos cuadras de la playa pero no podía verla por todos los edificios. No gracias. Pues, múdate y vivir tu vida a tu gusto. No te quedes en lugar donde no sientes tu ser auténtico. La vida es cortita y vuela más rápida con cada año qué pase.

Vivo en la India y es lo mismo, gente por todas partes. Despues de 4 años tengo un poco de miedo de volver a Barcelona y sentir que esta vacío!

That's easy to understand. My dream is to have two small apartments, One in a big Metropolitan city and one in a small quiet village in the mountains, and go back and forth every three months or so. To get the contrasts and feel change.

I recently visited Spain for two months with the purpose of deciding whether I would like to move there and to which city. I am mostly considering Madrid or Barcelona. Both seem to have pluses and minuses.

Go to Valencia. Nicer city, many posibilities, much cheaper than Madrid and Barcelona.

I'd been to Seoul and Busan back in 2017 and I went to visit Madrid and Barcelona in 2022.. I would say I like Madrid better than Seoul.. That's why I'm here watching your videos, atleast to learn to speak Spanish :)

Madrid is a bit cramped. Remember traveling on a rented car from Barajas to Estaio Snt Bernabeu, to visit my colleagues at nbcuni at the playa del Torres (in case I remember everything correctly). Centre of the city is a bit cramped. Nice, but I understand what you are talking about.
Come visit Kyiv after the war. It’s almost identical in terms of population, but it’s bigger than Madrid due to the huge river and green zones/hills.
Not Seoul (which is nice), but quite diverse due to geography.

Tía, como Madrileño que soy, podría arder el mundo entero que si Madrid sigue en pie yo estoy contento. Se nos llama "chulos" por eso. _"De Madrid al cielo"_ también se dice mucho. Debes de ser la primera persona de Madrid que no le gusta Madrid en la historia de Madrid.

Y si me quejara, ya me hubiese ido a otra ciudad donde me gustara y me quejara menos.
Cuando voy a Madrid, yo que soy pueblerino de Extremadura, me parece una pedazo de ciudad. Variada, completa, no le falta de nada... pero tienes razón en lo que has dicho, es pequeña en cuanto a longitud y tiene todo lo interesante concentrado en ese "pequeño" recinto. El extrarradio son todo barrios grises, pisos y fábricas adónde van los trabajadores un día sí y otro también, sin cambiar mucho la rutina de las personas. Está bien para vivir un tiempo, pero entiendo que se te quede pequeña y te agobies. A mí me pasó exactamente lo mismo con la ciudad de Toledo, que me parece perfecta en cuanto a cultura (aunque mucho menos variada y pequeña que una gran ciudad como Madrid) pero en 9 meses que viví allí acabé hartísimo. Todas las ciudades de España me parecen lo mismo. Al que se mueve de su pueblo a la ciudad o al inmigrante que viene es posible que disfrute mucho en estas ciudades. Buena reflexión y saludos.

Hombre, una ciudad de 3 millones de 604 km2 es una ciudad grande en España, comparándola con New York, Seul y México DF , etc pués se queda pequeña.
