I just made this. It's in the oven now. I used dates instead of sultanas and half wholemeal flour because that's what is in my cupboard. I couldn't mic all the flour in and had to add a lot more water. Looking forward to some later with a cup of tea.. Thanks for this video. It's super easy. Update it is delicious. I will be making this again.
We have a chain grocery store here in Chicago. They offer this as Irish Soda Bread every March for St. Patrick's Day. I love it but I knew it wasn't traditional Irish soda bread. I went looking for malt bread and found you. Now I know what I was eating and will make this for myself. Thank you. New subsciber.
I have great memories of tea at Grannie's house. Always delicious and lots of different kinds of things than we had in our house...yum! This bread looks delicious!
My mum used to do something similar to this, but I think she started it with cold tea, as well as eating it with a cuppa at the end... Definitely gonna give this one a go...
Hi Titli, I love your videos, The witty comments you occasionally put in always put a smile to my face. I've been on a bread making kick lately and I was wondering, what is your favorite bread to make?
AmericanEagleChica That's really hard to answer. I enjoy making all breads. If I had to choose... I guess I enjoy making rolls of various types the most. My favourite bread to EAT would be the outback steakhouse loaf :-)
In the process of making this now and did exact measurements and i definitely think that was more then 2 cups of flour you added. Mine didn’t turn nearly as thick.
Hi Titli, I take it there is no substitute for the Malt, hence the Malt loaf lol Only malt I ever knew was malt vinegar and malted milkshakes. Looks divine, now to find the malt. :o)
The Bread Kitchen I wonder if your parents had ever been to India. They named you Titli which in Hindi means a butterfly. It's such a pleasure watching you cook and hear your style of recipe. You have become my favourite joyful RUclipsr.
We always had cheese and butter with fruit loaf / cake up North when I was a kid! This looks amazing! I'm gluten free nowadays. M&S do a piffling gluten free fruit cake, which whilst tasty is £2.50 for a cake the size of a Lego brick! 😄 Forgive me if this already exists in your playlist, because I might have missed it, but if you could please show us a gluten free fruit cake recipe I will be so happy and grateful! Should I say Internally grateful!!! 😆😊
Thanks for the recipe suggestions, I've wanted to try my hand at Banana malt loaf. Any tips on preparing the bananas, or can one just chop and chuck them in? LOL
Hi Titli what brand of butter do you use? I always use anchor in baking but it softens very fast. Sometimes I use it in cooking but before I know it it's nearly melted. Any suggestions? Thank you. I love your videos (^_^)
Hello. Who remembers Harvo Bread? I understand the company closed years ago, So now, I'm looking to make my own version, and this is the closest I've been able to come to replicating the recipe...any more suggestions perhaps though would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
Oh, this is so much like the "turkish bread" you can sometimes buy in Poland :) Also a childhood memory :) I use this recipe (it's in Polish, but Google Translate will do the job): www.mojewypieki.com/post/chlebek-turecki---bulka-turecka
Hi Titli, this recipe reminds me a lot of my family's Lincolnshire plum bread , which is a recipe I grew up eating. How can I email it to you, I can't see an email address on your website?
I must not pass the chance to have a taste of what your childhood was like :) Treacle and dark molasses are the same thing? Or, in other words, is dark molasses a good substitute for the treacle you used?
What a great video I’ll have to give this one a try! I love your approach on you video I hope I can have the same following on mine keep up your wonderful work on thumbs up and your bells on let’s see the next
So I made this last weekend. It went down an absolute storm.... quite apart from being one of the most annoying recipes. Trying to spoon out all that malt extract and black treacle

I think probably what you ate was a barm brack. That is Irish and it is sweet. Normal Irish soda bread is not sweet. Malt loaf is Scottish.
I have great memories of tea at Grannie's house. Always delicious and lots of different kinds of things than we had in our house...yum! This bread looks delicious!
Aaaw Titli, I miss you, please come back to youtube.
My mum used to do something similar to this, but I think she started it with cold tea, as well as eating it with a cuppa at the end...
Definitely gonna give this one a go...
moogthedog Indeed. Instead of using plain old water you can use strong tea.
Thank you so much. It's delicious, and will be my go-to recipe from now on. Knew I would find the best malt loaf on an English channel.
I tried your chicken liver pate recipe. It was perfect x
love your baking goods channel.
thank you

I think it was 450 g of flour. Could that be why?
Hey Titli 😀 I love your recipes! My loaf tin is 9 x 4 3/4 x 4 3/4. How can I scale up the quantities so as to fill my (slightly larger bread tin?
Hi Titli, I take it there is no substitute for the Malt, hence the Malt loaf lol Only malt I ever knew was malt vinegar and malted milkshakes. Looks divine, now to find the malt. :o)
Looks delicious!....
by "Health Food" shops, does that include Holland & Barrett? This would be lovely to try but I need to find the malt extract first, obviously
TheOrgano In fact I got my malt extract from Holland & Barrett. It was in two places in the store, one much cheaper than the other!
Thanks Titli, I'll have to keep an eye open for it

It's so sad that I cannot get any malt extract here. Does anyone know what can be substituted for it?
I love cheese, I love marmite and I love malt loaf but I’m with you on this one, you have to draw the line somewhere.
Thank you!!!
I had no Idea this was so easy to make, and Your Hubby is right, Try it with a nice slice of Strong Cheddar, mmm to die for :)
Thank you.
Thanks for the recipe suggestions, I've wanted to try my hand at Banana malt loaf. Any tips on preparing the bananas, or can one just chop and chuck them in? LOL

Akuma Kanji Dark or blackstrap molasses are good substitutes for black treacle
Yay for brewers!
How come it didn't need yeast?
Jessie Rae Because it uses baking powder.
Cheese works well with Christmas cake too -- marmite no way
my mother keeps buying me it but i have no idea what to do with it? gimmie some ideas please internet...
