I just made this. It's in the oven now. I used dates instead of sultanas and half wholemeal flour because that's what is in my cupboard. I couldn't mic all the flour in and had to add a lot more water.
Looking forward to some later with a cup of tea..
Thanks for this video. It's super easy.
Update it is delicious. I will be making this again.

We have a chain grocery store here in Chicago. They offer this as Irish Soda Bread every March for St. Patrick's Day. I love it but I knew it wasn't traditional Irish soda bread. I went looking for malt bread and found you. Now I know what I was eating and will make this for myself. Thank you. New subsciber.

I think probably what you ate was a barm brack. That is Irish and it is sweet. Normal Irish soda bread is not sweet. Malt loaf is Scottish.

My mum used to do something similar to this, but I think she started it with cold tea, as well as eating it with a cuppa at the end...
Definitely gonna give this one a go...

moogthedog Indeed. Instead of using plain old water you can use strong tea.

    Hi Titli,
I love your videos, The witty comments you occasionally put in always put a smile to my face. I've been on a bread making kick lately and I was wondering, what is your favorite bread to make?

    • @TheBreadKitchen
      @TheBreadKitchen  9 лет назад +4

AmericanEagleChica That's really hard to answer. I enjoy making all breads. If I had to choose... I guess I enjoy making rolls of various types the most. My favourite bread to EAT would be the outback steakhouse loaf :-)

In the process of making this now and did exact measurements and i definitely think that was more then 2 cups of flour you added. Mine didn’t turn nearly as thick.

I think it was 450 g of flour. Could that be why?

Hi Titli, I take it there is no substitute for the Malt, hence the Malt loaf lol Only malt I ever knew was malt vinegar and malted milkshakes. Looks divine, now to find the malt. :o)

We always had cheese and butter with fruit loaf / cake up North when I was a kid! This looks amazing! I'm gluten free nowadays. M&S do a piffling gluten free fruit cake, which whilst tasty is £2.50 for a cake the size of a Lego brick! 😄 Forgive me if this already exists in your playlist, because I might have missed it, but if you could please show us a gluten free fruit cake recipe I will be so happy and grateful! Should I say Internally grateful!!! 😆😊

Hi Titli what brand of butter do you use? I always use anchor in baking but it softens very fast. Sometimes I use it in cooking but before I know it it's nearly melted. Any suggestions? Thank you. I love your videos (^_^)

I must not pass the chance to have a taste of what your childhood was like :) Treacle and dark molasses are the same thing? Or, in other words, is dark molasses a good substitute for the treacle you used?

Akuma Kanji Dark or blackstrap molasses are good substitutes for black treacle
