I’d suggest, go right to the very beginning. First album Kill em All.
First song, Hit the Lights. Pure adrenaline.
Also Four Horsemen and Seek and Destroy from the same album.
But start with Hit the Lights. It’s what the band wanted, and for good reason.

      1. Who cares?
      2. Yeah, that's Kirk's riff

@@8tonystark8 I just found it funny he made that comment on a song Kirk wrote the riff to. And it may be similar but if people weren’t influenced by other peoples music then new music couldn’t be made. Just saying.

Good call, Nick! This does seem to be one of those old great songs that even Metallica neglects but I’ve always loved it. I don’t listen to the Ride The Lightning album much these days but when I do I have to make sure I listen to this one. The Call of Ktulu is another great song from this album that doesn’t seem to get a lot of attention. I really like all of Metallica’s instrumental tracks. Orion, especially. Any way, loved this reaction video as always. Appreciate your channel so much. 🤘🏼

First time I ever heard Metallica was in a music store in 1986 while browsing the vinyl section which was one of my favorite past times then, trust me you young people of this generation have no idea what you missed out on,there was no social media or Internet then but still had lots to do,but anyway The Thing That Should Not Be was playing on the stereo so I walked up to the counter to see what band it was and thought..Metallica? I hadn't even heard of them before that,So I bought Master Of Puppets on cassette, that was about two weeks before Cliffs death.

Awesome journey into Metallica!! You should react to some of Metallica's blues/hard rock songs from the 1990s. Until It Sleeps; King Nothing; The House Jack Built; Hero of The Day; Thorn Within; Wasting My Hate; Where The Wild Things Are; Low Man's Lyrics; Unforgiven II; Carpe Diem Baby; Devils Dance; Fixxxer. The Load & Reload albums are definitely underrated. Great sample of their musical versatility outside of heavy metal/thrash!

When I 1st heard Metallica, it was on a aforementioned LA FM Radio station that had a all Metal show hosted by Jim Ladd, called "The Metal Shop" on KMET 94.7 (which turned into a New Age station, then "Smooth Jazz", whateverthatmeans, and now its an R&B station). It was tracks off of "Kill 'em All", I liked it, but it was raw and being a Progger before a Metalhead, I guess I wanted it a little more polished. Then "Ride the Lightning" came out. The 1st track I heard from it was the opener, the acoustic guitar intro was super intriguing . . . . then all the sudden, the BRUTALITY of "Fight Fire with Fire". Hetfield's staccato vocals was something I never heard before, and the guitar riffage and the harmony/melodious solo made a huge impact on me.
The "Acoustic intro" would be a thing with many Thrash bands, which I enjoyed immensely.
I became a huge Metallica fan (next on the Metal list was Iron Maiden, Savatage, Loudness, Accept, and Queensryche's debut Ep, which would lead me to the future of Prog Metal). This is another excellent Thrash track that I also got into.
And then the fan-faves like; For Whom the Bell Tolls, Fade to Black and Creeping Death. This is the album that showed me that Metallica had "musicianship" behind this aggressive newer subgenre of Metal, and I searched for more of this back in the 80's, and the more obscure bands of that time (and in the early 90's), some who were also being inspired/influenced by Progressive Rock (which led me to "move-on" to those _more_ underground bands, before the "Black" album). Note that the late-great Cliff Burton on Bass, his 2 fave bassists were Geddy Lee and Steve Harris :).
Funny too, back in those days, I can remember people (even Metalheads) complaining that Hetfield's voice was "Too Heavy/Too Rough" for them :D. How times have changed. And that Metallica basically put Metal on the map for the average radio listener.
Nick, hopefully this gets you and "Lex" into the mood for some heavier modern Metal from Meshuggah, and the track "Future Breed Machine", since we are both Allan Holdsworth fans, as well as their lead-guitarist Fredrik Thordendal. This track will show you why its a great example of merging a bit of Fusion with more extreme Metal that is progressive (and the band "Cynic", another for a future reaction). Just a warning; its HEAVY/AGGRESSIVE, and headbanging to _their_ brand of 4/4 may snap your head-off :P. Note as well; the drummer Tomas Haake is a big fan of Vinnie Colaiuta and Gary Husband (as said on the credits, "Sources of Inspiration" on the album DEI).
Like you said to Lex, Nick . . . these heavier musics may not be searched out by Proggers, Jazzers and Rockers, but I have seen it happen many a time, showing another side of heavier music to those that wish to be enlightened, challenged, or just a curiosity to something new, and maybe out of their comfort zone. There are reactors, musicians and collectors of music that have various channels talking about "Why" these bands awakened them to a side of Metal they didn't know about, and destroying the stereotypes of what they thought Metal was (even though its supposed to be "scary" and piss people off :p). Metal definitely has helped deal with a lot in my life, just as much as Progressive Rock, Classical and Jazz/Fusion. All have helped in various situations in my life, and to fight forward to my goals and happiness. It was always a positive in my life.
    - Thanks guys for the music, and the "discussion" \m/.
