Awesome recipe you guys. Really like how the new season is starting off, and great to see more of Joe in the videos this season. Makes this feel like a family cooking show. Super great video, and big thumbs up :-)
+Spoon Fork Heart Yeah, I love throwing Joe in FRONT of the camera whenever he lets me. He still doesn't particularly enjoy it, but I know everyone else likes it, so he's warming up to the idea. Thanks for encouraging him! :) Happy new year!
Hi! Chef 👩🍳 Yoon ur so proficient in english ur way of cooking was so good the food presentation i also luv it so simple & easy more power on next Vlogg.Xoxo
I've made this recipe from this video three times already and I am currently making it as I type this too hehe. One of my favs growing up for sure! Such awesome comfort food
Just in time for the new year! Your broth is so fancy...mine just has meat. hahah. :) I can't wait to eat this tomorrow- twice! Happy new year to the Yoon family. You guys are awesome and I hope 2016 is an amazing year for you!
+Esther An Haha... fancy because I added onions? ;) I know... I'm sure Koreans everywhere will be eating a lot of Dduk Guk tomorrow... we will too. I'm still not sure whether I'll be making it or my mom will. Happy New Year to you as well! :)
+Chef Julie Yoon exactly! the onions = fancypants! :) I ended up eating ddukgook twice on new year's day- from my mom and my In laws! It was the best because I didn't have to cook at all. YAY!
Happy New Year! I've made Dduk-geuk numerous times before but enjoyed your tutorial and will try it your way for 2018. I'm salivating thinking about it, too, along with some radish kimchee to accompany it. I'm off to cook it for my family right now. :D Update: I made this soup as instructed and it was the BEST dduk-geuk I've ever had (even better than my mother's!) and my sons LOVED it. Your recipe will be in our dinner rotation now to be enjoyed beyond New Years Day. Thanks, Julie!
Thankyou for sharing this recipe it looks delicious and simple. I'm gonna make this and i just picked up a package of teok guc rice caked from the asian market.
+Ong Ai Ling Haha thanks... glad you find us cute! ;) So happy that we make cooking look fun and easy... that's the whole point of our show! Thanks for watching.
Looked great, this would be excellent if you were a bit down under the weather.😋 I loved the end bloopers, goes to show we all make mistakes.👍🏼 I aways enjoy watching you cook. I hope you have a wonderful New Year,🎉 may 2016 bring you lots of Happiness & Prosperity.😉
+FunForShez Thanks so much... love reading your encouraging comments! I'm glad you enjoyed the bloopers. I definitely make a ton of mistakes while filming, but now I just know how to laugh at myself and keep going! Hope you have a blessed new year as well.
will try first time, I live too far to Asian market, 3 hour drive but my ex-wife gave me the recipe so I am trying it, but I did get enough, 100usd for all the ingrediences , am hoping it turns out ok?
tried it but put too much seaweed in it, lol. was good though, I want to add dumplings to it but not sure? how long do I cook it? already made a mess of the first one but not giving up. thanks for the video.
Oh man haha! You can definitely add dumplings but they cook in less time than rice cakes so add the rice cakes first and after a couple minutes, add the dumplings. Once they float to the top, they are pretty much cooked. You don't want to overcook them otherwise the skins will burst. Thanks for giving it a go!
+June O Sorry to hear you have the flu... I know how that feels, because I was suffering for a few months with the flu too. I hope you recover soon and someone makes you a bowl of hot Dduk Guk! Happy New Year!
You can just season the soup with salt if you can't find soup soy sauce. Some recipes don't use soup soy sauce at all because it changes the color of the soup and some people like it to look more clear.
+Yeae Gi Park haha when did I become a fashionista?? I smell a fashion youtube channel coming.. haha yeah right! I got it at H&M. Got it last winter so not sure if it's still around for this season.
i love a good soup, but i bought the wrong size. after the shopping guide i chose the ones that look like small cylinders. can i slice them without it causing an issue?
+brewatch You can slice them in half so they're just smaller pieces, or even in half lengthwise so they're thinner. Might be easier to slice them once they're cooked...so you could just slightly boil them in a separate pot of water first, slice them, and then add them to your soup. Or you can just eat the cylinder ones in the soup... no worries!
So I started making it and boiling the essences with the meat. But so far there’s no foaming scum coming up ??? Am I doing something wrong. I have about 50 mins. left on my cooking time
I'm so sorry I didn't see your comment earlier but I hope it turned out okay. Sometimes the scum doesn't form as much, and I think it has to do with the meat. Sometimes I don't get too much scum either but it still turns out good! :)
+lara webs thanks for your suggestion. You can always just boil kelp with dried shitake mushrooms, Korean radish "moo," garlic cloves, onion, and scallions. It should produce enough flavor this way too.
Kangen Ddeg guk, suka banget makanan ini.

Dduk Guk or Korean Rice Cake Soup is traditionally eaten on New Years Day, but you can enjoy it any time of the year. Happy New Year everyone! :)

I've made this recipe from this video three times already and I am currently making it as I type this too hehe. One of my favs growing up for sure! Such awesome comfort food

+June O Sorry to hear you have the flu... I know how that feels, because I was suffering for a few months with the flu too. I hope you recover soon and someone makes you a bowl of hot Dduk Guk! Happy New Year!
I cant get the soup soy sauce in my asian market , they dont have it ..soup looks delish

Try seasoning with fish sauce
love your cooking show! :)
+Klieo Velasque Thanks so much! Glad you're watching.
this made me so hungry watching it😫
I don't even care that New Year's Day passed days ago! Looks amazing!! I like Joe's sweater. Where did he get it? Hehe 😁
+Yeae Gi Park haha when did I become a fashionista?? I smell a fashion youtube channel coming.. haha yeah right! I got it at H&M. Got it last winter so not sure if it's still around for this season.
I just discovered you and i absolutely love your videos!
i love a good soup, but i bought the wrong size. after the shopping guide i chose the ones that look like small cylinders. can i slice them without it causing an issue?

Instead of using soy sauce, try using fish sauce, it brings out so much flavor and tastes 2X better
I've never heard of that for Dduk Guk. I use fish sauce in my soondubu, but not here... interesting.
So I started making it and boiling the essences with the meat. But so far there’s no foaming scum coming up ??? Am I doing something wrong. I have about 50 mins. left on my cooking time

could you please please make a Video about how to veganize korean dishes? like how to use kelp in soups! i would be so happy! love your Videos!
+lara webs thanks for your suggestion. You can always just boil kelp with dried shitake mushrooms, Korean radish "moo," garlic cloves, onion, and scallions. It should produce enough flavor this way too.
I'm allergic to laver all seafood and fish. Are there other substitutions or just leave it plain?
amtrueblue You could sprinkle some crushed sesame seeds on top, it goes really well with this dish.
wounder if a slow cooker will turn out same
I'm going to try it this way, I don't see it being a problem, just longer obviously. Even a pressure cooker would work to cut the cook time.
