  • If you're looking for a strange tourist destination in Florida, look no further than The Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp, a town populated by psychics, mediums and witches! The Cassadaga Spiritualist Campbegan circa 1875, when the Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp Meeting Association was founded by George P. Colby, a trance medium who traveled to many different states, giving readings and seances. He was well known and in his travels was referred to as the "seer of spiritualism."

Hi from Deland FL your hometown. I live right by the high school. Moved here 13 yrs ago. I grew up in Taxachussetts. Sometimes I miss my hometown too. I can tell you it's not the same at all. Even since I moved here it's become more crowded. Traffic is brutal and the cost of living has gone way up. Daytona beach is a mess but down town Deland still has incredible charm and you grew up in a beautiful little town. You should see where I came from now. Oof! I think we are headed to NC next.

Proceeds to visit a place that isn't creepy in the slightest. All the while calling it "Cassadogga." It's Day-ga! Hehe. We used to drive around late at night and walk around here. It does have an unusual vibe!

From my understanding 7:18-7:24 "Jack Skeleton was a soldier,I don't know the year exactly but he either hid inside of a canon cause his fellow soldiers were getting killed(to avoid getting killed by bullets, loved getting shot from a canon cause he was that Guy lol..or was captured behind enemy lines and killed by getting shot from a canon.." either way he was a decent guy, nothing hunted about him..
7:25 that's Slimer from GhostBusters, he's a massive of ectoplasmic energy(somehow he gained a joking personality and he's harmless) hmm 🤔 unless his pranks become major problems ..

That _"Haunted Museum"_ isn't really part of Cassadaga (Cah sah day gah), the "Camp" is all on the side of the road with columns and heading down toward the small pond and the next four or five side streets on the same side with all the little cottages. Everyone who lives and works within "The Camp" belong to the small church at the bottom of the hill by the lake.
The shops across the street aren't part of the community as a whole and are taking advantage of the Town's reputation~ everyone who works within the Camp are certified and have to be able to demonstrate their skills before hanging a shingle, takes a couple/several years of class work to qualify.
Those across the street do not.
Technically _The Cassadaga Hotel_ is no longer part of The Camp either, it was sold by The Camp back during the Great Depression (as I understand it) to save the rest of the Camp from financial bankruptsy.
The Camp itself runs as a nonprofit, existing on donations to the church and the proceeds from the gift shop by the gate columns, and a couple psychic fairs put on per year, they break even every year but aren't taking in gobs of tourist trap bucks as some places do, so has never had the financial resources to buy the hotel back.
There's very little gouging of the tourists allowed inside the Camp, but not so much can be said for some of the folks across the street like the Piece of Thhpt "Museum."

You wouldn't like it. You'll find spiritually alright, but not the good kind. The stones in their cemetery have black trails like tears. They look like they're crying :(

    • @sailorbychoice1
      @sailorbychoice1 17 дней назад

@@Lilith218 Cassadaga doesn't have a cemetary, the bordering town of Lake Helen does, if there's anything resembling a cemetary within Cassadaga it's only decorative and meant as a goof by the locals.

If you’re ever in St. Louis, right down town. There is an area called Laclades Landing (probably didn’t spell that right). They have a wax museum there. It’s not on the level with Madame Tussaud’s, but it’s hysterical to go through. $10 gets you wax figures that look not completely unlike certain celebrities. Best $10 ever spent.

It's not creepy at all , it's just defferent. And most of us from Florida born and raised here are actually quite proud of it. Especially those of us with Indian backgrounds like myself. It has a very unique history as a lot of Florida does. If you weren't born and raised here you just would never understand Florida nor her actual people. But creepy , no , defferent yes. Oh and you mispronounced it's name . Anyone there you could have asked how to pronounced it. It's Indian actually being this little town was built on Indian ground. No disrespect intended here. Much respect.

I think that people who live there would be more interesting, especially if they could explain and possibly demonstrate why they identify as psychics, mediums, or witches.
The Indians were represented probably because of their connection to the ancient spirits.

@@user-nl5hd1pp9l Near where I grew up in Massachusetts there is a Seminary School for Ministers that is pretty much in the middle of the woods. Strewn about those woods are big hunks of rock and boulders left over from when the four mile high glacier receded during the last ice age.
A couple hundred years ago some folks put a large flat rock on top of a couple smaller rocks to make a table where a dozen or so people could use like a picnic table...
Of course, according to the local kids is isn't a picnic table in the woods, it is absolutely a devil's alter to conduct human and animal sacrifices.
The fact that there has never been any sign of blood (human or animal) ever found on or near the rock, nor any reports of local people disappearing and found dead, hasn't changed that rumor in about 14 generations of kids.
