You should have made such a logic in PHP oop ...complex logics in php procedural are difficult to debug
Great sir, but I think there will be some performance issue because each and every 5 seconds this scripts checks the database for the status. If many users logged in at the same time then server will not be able handle such enormous database access for each 5 seconds.
Is there any other way to do that without checking on some time interval? Will Socket helps to get rid of this kind of problem?

Making ajax call every 5 sec for lakhs of users will take unnecessary toll on the server. This solution could be better implemented using Websocket.
