4th Anniversary Update
The original Venice walkthrough was one of my earliest videos and to date has received over 180,000 views making it my most popular upload. This is despite the relatively lousy quality and poor editing!
What could be more appropriate for an anniversary video than an HD remake? This is the best possible quality possible with a perfect 1:1 representation. Stick it on full screen and it will be like the game is actually being played before your eyes!
While the original walkthrough was less than 10 minutes due to a sneaky shortcut, I've decided to include the whole lot in one walkthrough. That means opening the two gates to let the boat pass through the alley.

I remember when I got to this level as a child, and my parents took me away on holiday but I had no memory card, so I left it on pause for two weeks lol my ps1 console was burning when I got back, but I just carried on lol

I used to have a Tomb Raider 2 demo on PC way back in the day, and this was the only level I could play. I'd play the heck out of this level.

I used the unorthodox method:
Pressed the button to open the last gate, swam underneath the door to not activate the timer, swam all the way through to the last gate, the floating bombs didn't explode, finished the level.
Had no idea how to get the first boat up top.

People, the secret is to "accelerate". You just have to keep pressing the "action" button while you're on the boat

Those were the golden days. I still remember i found this game accidentally and i became fan for a lifetime. Then this stage called Venice, omg that little kiddo in me tried almost for a week to get past through it. No internet access no walkthrough help, felt proud while playing this game 😀
I remember this like yesterday even though it was all them years back childhood
It’s crazy how much harder these levels were back in the day compared to how easy they are in the modern games, makes me miss the simpler (yet harder) times

This was the hardest tomb raider out of the series for the ps1 in my opinion, but i always loved this classic throwback

Alex Mclean that's what i miss. It really was an immersive experience from beginning to end. Music was only used to highlight a moment in the adventure like danger, mystery, or awe. I long for the same feeling these days
This is the only one scene i remember of this game because my brother never had the full version but those demos instead, but it was fun either way
Ah yes I remember the countless hours me and my dad wasted playing the the tomb raider series. The most recent one we were half way through playing until my xbox 360 broke. -_- I remember the good days of playing tomb raiders 1, 2 and 3. Angel of darkness wasn't great. Tomb raider legend was spot on; good graphics and great gameplay. A good game which brought the series into the new generation. Anniversary wasn't too bad, I liked the added features of wall running. But the new one is quite difficult. It went from hard game mechanics in the first few games as the way she runs is very mechanical to very easy game mechanics in tomb raider legend as she runs and does actions very smoothly to once again hard game mechanics in the 2013 game as it's so complicated- XDD
Shadow Runner the angel of darkness is my favorite cuz i believe it has the best plot and the characters are really great
It was okay but I think that Legend was good for me despite the linear game play C: Though, I have always enjoyed Tomb raider 2 and 3 :D
Yeah XD Though I find it funny because as expected, my dad is much better at playing the older games and I'm better at playing the new ones. I was watching him trying to play anniversary and he must have failed about six times trying to do these series of jumps. It was like watching a newborn foal trying to walk XD

I agree with you there though. For example tomb raider Legend was very linear and it was never difficult to figure out where to go next. But in the older ones there was some literally moments where you were sat there like " C: "
But anniversary is becoming my favorite because it has the smooth playing type of the new games but the puzzles that came from the old game and it's just spot on X3
I love her from tomb raider two to answer your last question XD And yeah- I think the very newest ones don't really seem all too good to me especially the newest reboot which isn't very true to the whole Lara Croft image if you ask me. Me and a friend were saying that she's almost like an adrenaline junkie. Like, she saves the world but at the same time she doesn't give two shits about people in general. She found dinosaurs but simply killed them and continued on XD I think she enjoys finding stuff but doesn't really care about the publicity of showing it off to the world.
And You really should play anniversary. It is very different to the first game as it's hard to bring the blocky style into the new graphics but it's still a very good game and there are some amazing moments when you find the waterfall room, the T-rex and the fire room in midas's palace-

JCB Temple of Xian and Floating Islands are the scary levels on this game with the creepy dark graphics, large spiders and eerie background noise, how did you find this level scary?

I was child of nine years old when this was released. I think this whole game is a timeless demonstration of digital accomplishment. These first three levels hold for me more nostalgia than I could expect to express with any accuracy to anybody who didn't have their intellect astounded by this game as a child.
As a side note I was just thinking to myself that Pokémon Red/Blue for the Gameboy appear to be superior to just about any of the titles for the PS3/4. I understand things of this nature are coloured by personal taste but I would stand by that comment.
PS1/2 had some fantastic games..

This level is so beautiful, i remember almost the entirety of the game but this level is the 1 that stands out the most...then the soundtrack 😍
This is probably still the best Tomb Raider. It's the best music of the Tomb Raider's for sure (spooky but nice). Thanks for making this video...8 years later and someone still enjoyed the heck out of it!
I remember diving out of the boat when the part with the underwater bombs came out and going back to ger the other one.
we need a remake of tr1 and 2 just better graphics everything should stay the same

my boat wont go up the ramp
Incase you didn't know, you have to hold X to increase the speed of the boat to climb the ramp otherwise the boat won't make it.
Im from Chile, I'm 31 ,I got this game back in 1997 , one of the best things ever happens to me was this game , along with tomb raider 3 , 4 , resident evil series uffff..... Kids today don't know...but I'm teaching my 8 years old son to play killer instinct SNES... that's something...

I love this game. My 3 favourite levels are The Wreck of the Maria Doria, Living Quarters and Barkhangs Monastery. They get to be a bit of a bugger afterwards..lol, espescially Floating Islands and Temple of Xian.

Did you notice how several times the player stopped for no reason? That was his saving time, equipping different weapons and selecting keys for doors :)

Has anyone yet figured out if the big wooden doors straight ahead here lead anywhere? Maybe they're just one of many objects the developers left in/forgot to remove?
I swear, one of the main reasons I end up spending more time going through Venice compared to even some later levels was because I was always trying to figure out how to get through those doors ...

At 3:06 it took me forever to realize I had to use that window to get to the other side lol I was a kid spending two weeks tryna figure out how the hell to get there.

Gabriel Pezzi i played the pc version of tr2 at least 30 times on every windows version since windows 95, it is the first time, i hear that there is no sound underwater. Volume up your sound.
You can also end the level by jumping onto the corner of the orange building.
