I kind of agree that the players are more important than the fixtures. I remember having Bowen at the start of last season and he scored in his first 6 consecutive away games even with his hard fixtures, including goals at Anfield and Villa. I wouldn't say fixtures don't matter though

I thought I had my team nailed. But some more tinkering and now have a 99% rating (didn't think it would go so high). Anyway, ratings are one thing, what actually happens on the field is something else
I won't go near Palmer as the price doesn't offer any value at all, but I don't quite agree that attacking coverage isn't a thing. If you're considering a player like Palmer, part of that also includes considering the team he plays for and presumably if you're considering Palmer you're backing Chelsea's attack as a whole to score goals. Palmer's price point makes him difficult to fit in, and I don't think it's bad management to consider the other nailed attackers if you think their attack is going to do well. If Palmer goes and gets 2 goals and an assist, 9 times out of 10 there are going to be 3 other attacking returns within that and they'll come from others in his team. It's impossible to predict things perfectly and I do think there's a case to be made for spreading risk across teams, especially early on - so if you already have coverage from a team I would tend to steer towards covering a different one to spread the risk if it's a close decision. Obviously if you're absolutely certain that Chelsea are going to be rubbish and Newcastle and Palace are going to start the season on fire then don't bother covering Chelsea attack - but who is ever going to be that certain?
Thoughts on my current team of Pickford, valdimarsson Gvardiol, pedro porro, trent, faes, barco Eze, saka, salah, Gordon Muniz, havertz, isak Dabbled with 4.5 keeper and munoz instead of porro then keeping the money in the bank for a late palmer swap from saka but enjoy this balance more
I think “safe” can also be interpreted as points variance. A “safe player” is one who will probably score 4-8 points, while a risky pick can be a player who scores 1-15 for example.
Ownership is another way to determine a "safe" pick. if you have a highly owned player and they blank, it's not such a big deal and the opposite is also true, if you ignore a highly owned player and they score, it will really affect your rank, so the "safe" choice is sticking with the crowd.

I'm seriously concerned Salah is a massive trap given how he played towards the end of last season. 12.5 is a lot of money, and the big draw to him is the great fixtures. We have written off Arsenal due to the fixtures. A lot of focus on fixtures...
it’s not just the end of the season, it’s throughout the whole season he was terrible, getting jammy 90+min returns almost every week. you can not sustain that
Andy, one thing is certain! For serious or shall I say passionate managers, there are going to be more grey hairs or loss of hairs at the end of the season as no one is going to have an ideal team! This doesn't apply to people who are already bald!
Basket case owners, a manager without Premier League experience and Palmer overpriced. The mistake would be to believe that Chelsea players are going to have successful seasons and that the manager will still be in place next year.
another key mistake is chasing points that were scored the previous week. dont tear up your long thought out team coz some random 5m player bagged a hatty.
We could learn from this time last season where everyone thought Jackson at Chelski was gonna be amazing. Or the year before where everyone hyped up Lukaku at Chelski.
I remember at the beginning of last season Chelsea had great fixtures, a bit like now (LIV-whu-LUT-NFO-bou-AVL-ful-bur) and the popular picks were Chilwell, Gusto, Sterling and even N.Jackson. But if I remember correctly they all failed in some way or another. So in some cases even good run of fixtures won't help. I'm seeing the same kind of trend with Nottingham Forest now where all of a sudden people are picking players like Chris Wood.
Here’s my impulsive and reactionary FPL predictions. Based on history this will be somewhat justified, but end up being 99% inaccurate. 1. Eze will flop in FPL and Palace goals will come from everywhere 2. Kulusevski would have been a good differential but now Solanke has ruined that 3. Jota will outperform Salah 4. Rashford will flop again but Garnacho and Amad will do OK. Not worth UTD players at all 5. Neto will net big 6. Haaland will either score 3 goals a game or blank 7. Mbuemo will haul 8. Havertz will be Arsenal’s top scorer and in the top 3 in the league stats 9. I’ll wildcard within 2 weeks out of poor life choices made on deadline hour 10. I’ll need a new phone case by week 2 Good luck 🤞
Palmer: Take Son GW1 & 2, and have 0.5m in the bank. Then, swap for Palmer. Son's 1st 2 are good games, then thet teeter off and Chelsea get better games.
Biggest mistake is people who don't understand the game offering advice on it. A defender that gets 5 goals 5 assists and only 5 clean sheets in a season is more than someone who gets 10 clean sheets and no goals or assists, but would be in one of the top 5 defences based on last season. Also not considering a few games ahead. People will take a hit to transfer out a player who plays city one week no realising that same player has an easier game then following week Of course fixtures matter, very few players hit an average return per game (ie 38 returns in a season), so you need to target when those returns are likely happen. Better players against worse teams (defensively)
Re: Defenders - of course, but that wasn't the point, clean sheets are still the bread and butter. A defender scoring 20 goals and getting zero clean sheets would be great, but it doesn't happen that often. Only 1 of the top 10 defenders last year (Porro) got more attacking returns than clean sheets. Ultimately you're trying to strike a balance anyway and buy attacking defenders when they're likely to get clean sheets as well.
