Synopsis
This play is based on one of the 4 greatest classical Chinese
novels, 'The Dream of the
Red Chamber'. The novel illustrates numerous day-to-day 18th century lives of the prominent Jia family. This chapter depicts a poor family of 3 sisters. Since the oldest sister is married to the first son of the Jia family, the younger sisters and their widowed mother are able to take shelter there. The sisters are beautiful,
naturally subject to Jia brothers lustful desire. The protagonist is the 3rd sister, U San Jie, who is bright and noble, dislikes the Jia family's devious, indulgent and oppressive conducts, resists adamantly Jia brothers' sexual advances. Indignant, the brothers marry her off, to an actor who happens to be her lover. It sounds so
ideal, but.........
The beginning of show introduces the main characters,
at a Banquet: the lecherous Jia brothers, the clever/cunning nephew, the loose-lipped brother-in-law, the righteous/non-compromising actor and the U sisters. Please enjoy.
