I mostly made this compilation as a place I can put my current thoughts on GMs overall, and difficulty in the game as a whole. Very long post below. -25 and -40 GM Nightfalls aren't very different at this point. Both the damage dealt and damage received differences are barely noticeable. Which is not really what I was personally hoping for when I saw the ability to go in so low. In the past with prestige Nightfalls, -40 handicap made them near impossible in a lot of cases, and is in stark contrast to how it is now on what's meant to be some of the hardest content the game has to offer. I'm in two minds when it comes to the current level of difficulty provided, particularly in GM Nightfalls. Both what I've come to accept in the game, and is probably right for the majority, versus what I personally want for the game. Right now, for the majority of the playerbase, GM Nightfalls are probably in a very good place. They're approachable enough to be doable by even some of the least invested players, and very achievable by the majority of the player-base who are seeking to get them done. They'll still remain as a challenge, but not as an insurmountable summit that most will never be able to reach. For myself, and most other players seeking truly challenging and punishing content; unfortunately, Destiny 2 will never be that game. That's something that I think most challenge players come to realise. While it would be a great way to keep the most dedicated players invested, the fact is, the majority of the playerbase don't want some insurmountable challenge. GMs were originally released with idea that they'd challenge even the most dedicated fireteams, but season after season we've seen them become easier and easier, and changes to make them more accessible to everyone. Now, they're just the equivalent of another triumph to check off each season, without any satisfaction from being challenged for the more dedicated players. The biggest example of this is comparing the original Solo GMs to the Solo GMs from recent seasons. The initial challenge was simply "can this even be done solo?", but now they've all devolved into "how fast can these be done solo?". This can be argued as the natural progression for any game with experience and time, but I think purely from my personal standpoint, it's been made too easy now. Being able to survive as much as we can, while also clearing entire groups of enemies without much effort, in -40 content solo, it shows how strong we are. Whether that's the right choice is not for me to say, but ultimately I feel like having at least one piece of brutally challenging content in the game would be nice. While I personally don't have a problem with one piece of content not being left as accessible to all (for example, I don't care for PVP, and I accept that I never will get the top tier rewards from that as a result), the majority don't feel that way. Destiny 2 just isn't that sort of game, and likely never will be. I'm not going to say "the game is too easy", as ultimately that's subjective and depends on how much time you invest into the game. I don't want to "gatekeep" people from activities either. I just want the option to have something challenging in the game. So while my personal desire is to be challenged, I understand I'm the minority in that desire. So as a tl;dr, for my opinion on whether I think Destiny 2 has become too easy, particularly in GM Nightfalls... for the people seeking the challenge, it definitely has. For the majority, the difficulty is probably in a good place.
Alot of mods are getting changed/ removed in lightfall, so this may reduce guardian potency thus making Grandmaster nightfalls harder. Although Strand might make them even easier... Looking forward to the state of pve in lightfall.
Ive had my hands together in prayer since destiny 1 for a true solo activity. Ive always wanted it to be like firefight from a halo. A timeless survival or defend, wave-oriented mode. 1-6 players with waves that scaled based off player count to truly make a solo replayable activity. Or just make a 1 man verison, 3 man verison, etc. Youd get a loot drop say every 5 or 10 waves. Have unique bosses on specific wave numbers too. And challenge oriented players could task themselves with reaching stupid high waves, kind of like the golden days of cod zombies. I understand this would/could be very time consuming. But if your a dedicated player, that time consumption wouldn't be too out of place anyway. It'd be a gamemode trule build for the less devote and the extremely dedicated on both ends, that would be replayable for solos. They could give players a badge to show what level they got to. And im sure content creators like eso would compete for highest round record. Im convinced this would be perfect for destiny. Ill keep praying but its been like 10 years.
Thank you Eso for sharing your thoughts in the description. I appreciate that you value not just the 1% top players but all players needs and wishes for the state of the game.
last season I played was beyond light. We had stasis introduced and the glassway nightfall strike. that was one of the most challenging activities the game has ever seen, especially for a solo run. I know that even the best players in the world were challenged by it including you, ive watched your vid and the attepmts you did to finally succeed it
@@natez999 I dont think Glassway was that hard either but its all relative to what you think is hard. I played it and solo'd it on release and it wasnt too bad. I thought corrupted and lightblade were far far more difficult.
my team took about 2h each gms was about 20 min runs max maybe even an 1h and 40 min but you doing it in sub 4h solo is insane again respect once again
People really underestimate the strength 40% damage resistance gives in grandmasters. The power creep isn't primarily from our subclasses, guns, builds, etc, but from the fact we take almost half damage at all times compared to what we did 3 seasons ago. -40 light under doesn't make a huge difference like Eso said in the pinned comment, 0 resilience grandmasters however, that's far more of a challenge, akin to what we used to have, even with our newer builds
I think another point to take into consideration re easy vs accesible is that the GM rotation is - imo - getting stale i.e. as a 6x Gilded Conqueror I know most if not all the GMs currently in the game pretty much off the back of my hand. I say this because in all honesty, KNOWING the strike i.e. all the spawns, boss health gates etc. is what truly makes a GM easy vs hard. For example, Glassway used to be very difficult for me, but once I learnt when al lthe spawns of Champs and Wyverns, it became significantly easier. Lightblade is actually one of my favourite GMs in the game not just because it's one of the hardest GMs in the game, but because the spawns dont follow as strict a pattern as other strikes i.e. we know WHEN the champs spawn in the boss room, but WHERE they spawn all depends on where each fireteam member is physically located in the room - so that element of unpredictability makes it tougher and more challenging. TLDR, I think a good way to spice of the challenge without compromising accesibility is introducing newer strikes into the rotation with a bit more frequency - sad they got rid of The Fanatic after just one season.
I actually agree that the GMs have become much easier. But that’s not because of the GMs. The GMs themselves are in an alright spot but we are significantly more powerful than we were when GMs first launched. I remember when the corrupted was one of if not the hardest GMs in the game now it’s doable. Not necessarily easy but you can get it done significantly faster than before
It's primarily the resil, you take away that 40% dr at all times and our 3.0 builds don't get _that_ far. We can outheal and kill X thing before it kills us at the moment thanks to taking almost half damage from every source. Can't outheal a one shot like we used to
Completely agree with your take. And also, I think there should something for everyone, say a super easy dungeon/raid to serve as a beggining for new players to have a know how on how to interact and behave in such activity or 1 or 2 super hardcore gms or even above it that only some folks can do, or at least only some can solo. Hell, we do this solos, or 3 man raids, speeds, you name it, without any rewards for it. Just for raid reports or videos to present and get into better teams or simple for the fun and adrenaline of it. So I woudn´t mind to have something where you go/change difficulty by your own just for content. There should definately be something else only meant for a few, even if no rewards or just cosmetics. Half of the player doesn´t have the countless flawless shadders and emblems. And that does not prevent them from playing the game. Well, 2 seasons ago I went in my first ever gm, conquered gilded, and following your videos and advice I soloed 4 gms, insight, spire, warden and arms dealers. Gonna get glassway done for sure. Maybe 1 other this season. Thanks for inspiring!!! Keep it up!!!
I am nowhere near the level of eso, but I have always enjoyed GMs for their challenge. Whether it was a breeze for you or not kudos, this is crazy haha I think you have valid point on both sides, I think if destiny was what each of us wanted it would have to be every game simultaneously 😂 everyone wants something different, maybe a way to do it would be loadout fixing? So maybe there’s like a weekly loadout chosen by bungie and that’s what you have to use? Cos honestly it’s only ‘easy’ because of all your synergies and for rolls and combinations, doing this with a random loadout would be harder, you’d still do it in a day but still haha I don’t know, what would you like to see? Would love to see you solo each gm on all three subclasses as a challenge. Certain gms could be easier to solo for one class and harder for the other two. For example, I am currently stuck on birth place of the vile gm with about 50 attempts in as Titan. This gm feels easier on Hunter for catching plates and staying alive in the boss room. Update: Finally got a plat solo clear on Titan in 30 min after 86 attempts. Boss room strategy is chasing after each wave of adds and spawn kill them all.
