I'm pretty certain that the Jabberwocky (I'm just going to call it that, for simplicity's sake) that devoured the bird was technically Neo's creation. So permanent death of its victims may not apply.

Nope same bird that was ripped to shreds by Neo's JW's because as I kept telling people like this THEY ARE ILLUSIONS NOT THE REAL THING SO THEY DON'T HAVE THE POWERS OF THE ORIGINAL!
This is the same point I was going to make. The obvious explanation is that Neo killed the OG Jabberwocker, and all the other ones we see are just clones created by Neo's semblance. Which likelyu lacked the powers of the OG.
Then what happened to the Cat exactly?

I really like this episode it shows that Somewhat is the perfect replacement for the Curious Cat. Plus Ruby telling the story and Somewhat saying you’re back makes sense since Somewhat might play a role in the final battle against Salem.
Yeah I was also kind of thinking that. “Oh since Ruby is narrating, she clearly knows the story” something along those lines.

@@rileyduncan3927 well we know that after Alyx’s betrayal, the cat turned from genuinely helping the afterans to simply manipulating them. So.. yeah. Within their short interaction, somewhat was able to give the prince a new perspective.
Although Little met Neo (but doesn’t remember that because of ascension)doesn’t entirely eliminate Somewhat not knowing Neo. Neo was in the process of ascension while Team RWBY and Jaune were returning to Remnant. At some point, Neo had to of emerged and maybe her purpose was similar to Alyx; to fix what she had broken. I think Neo may have returned to Remnant and got the staff back from Salem and then took it to the Ever After. Especially since the episode ended in the acre that she fell in. Maybe Somewhat met Neo before she returned to Remant and discovered her purpose was that and was just surprised by her return (possibly perceived as short in Somewhat’s eyes because time does move differently in the Ever After).
I hope if Neo does return to Remnant, she finds something or someone that's worth the pain fighting for.
I think the cat ascended since the hawker was there fulfilling the same purpose. I think Neo offed the real jabberwocker and the ones that attacked the market and CC were fakes. We saw the cat and the hawker on the blacksmith's table IIRC.

I hope the Jabberwalker get remade or replaced with a similar creature because without him gobbling up Afterans, Ever After will eventually become overpopulated.
I think the Bird situation could be due to the Jabberwocker not being the REAL one. It was likely a Construct of Neo, so the Ever After might now have recognized it as the true balancer of life, death, and ascension
Which, if I'm correct, means the Curious Cat ALSO survived
I remember when v9 was still ongoing, everyone was assuming that neo’s illusion of the jabberwalker operated in the same way as the actual jabberwalker. I didn’t get why but quickly came to accept that that’s how it worked just everyone was thinking it did and I thought I may have been. That was until the last episode when team rwby+j met with the blacksmith and we saw her carving a bird. At that point it became no doubt to me that neo’s jabberwalker didn’t permanently erase those it’d eaten and that both the real jabberwalker and the cat would eventually come back ascended. So I’m surprised that phoenix didn’t pick up on that and questions why the bird was back in this episode.
Maybe the cat bringing team rwby to herb was a form of manipulation where he planned to get them to trust him by “saving” them?
As for the portal, I don’t think there is any indication that the events that happened in this episode occur immediately after the end of v9 meaning that there is also a chance that other people have crossed over into the ever after. After all, the blacksmith did mention something of the line of other people arriving (not to say that she was specifically saying that ppl were 100% about to appear but that the possibility is always there) meaning that it doesn’t have to be the 5 people somewhat would recognize. And we also know that time works different in the ever after.
There could be a chance that Somewhat said "You're back" before anyone came through the portal, so they are only expecting it would be team RWBY or Jaune since they last saw them by a portal.
I've sorta got a different theory of my own:
Since Cinder and Salem still have the Staff of Creation, the person who arrived in the Ever After here is probably Cinder, who Somewhat mistakes for Ruby with the intention of granting Salem another foothold to gaining the power of the Great Tree...which is likely not going to end so well for her. ^^'
I think neo was the one somewhat saw in the portal. After all she may not remember neo but they certainly had the opportunity to see her edging in the tree and could be being nice saying "your back" as more of a 'welcome back from the tree' kind if statement
It was nice to see somewhat and JNPR once again. And I think who at the portal by the end would definitely be Ruby or jaune but I guess we will have to wait and see. Over all, good episode.
Juniper* JNPR is the team, Juniper is the name.
I will say it looks like the bird is a different color from the original hawker, so I think it's probably a different individual fulfilling the same role. But I do love how many questions these 4 little stories have left open for whatever the future holds
It seems that The Curious Cat’s Purpose was split between the Herbalist and Somewhat. With the Herbalist being the direct sender to the tree for ascension and Somewhat seeing to their social and emotional problems. This way it’s splits the suitors the Curious Cat but without overwhelming either of them.
Good to see Somewhat and Juniper again
It's possible that the bird just isnt the same bird we saw before. We've seen things like the paper pleasers or leaf-headed creatures where multiple of them exist at once and seem to have similar purposes

Exactly. We've even seen there's more than one talking mouse besides Little or should I say Somewhat. So there has to been more than one bird man.
@@kidprime6863 this one also has different coloration, so yeah it's probably a group of people who decided to ascend together so they became the same thing.

While she Semblance may have evolved to the point where can create clones of herself and other people, even allowing them to speak with their actual voices. I doubt she can fully replicate their Semblances or abilities. Like if she were to create a Ruby Clone complete with superspeed and agility, it will be somewhat a little slower than the original. Therefore, she's only replicating how she saw them using their Semblances and abilities without studying them throughly. Like imitating what you saw on TV.
However, if the Jabberwalker clones do function like the originals then it's possible that she might've inadvertently absorbed its powers. Possibly some kind of failsafe the Brother of Darkness put into it in case someone, Afteran or otherwise, were to kill it. Its slayer will take its place as the new consumer. Thus, Neo became the New Jabberwalker.
personally, I think the person who came out of the portal at the end is Summer. Somewhat said "you're back" which means it must have been someone from team RWBY, or Jaune. Somewhat never saw Neo so it can't be her. BUT, if Somewhat saw "Ruby", she would say that. But also, Ruby and Summer look basically exactly the same, I could see Somewhat mistaking Summer for Ruby.
Thinking along the same veins, another option could be Ruby's future daughter comes out of the portal. Time seems to move slower in the Ever After than Remnant. It's a practically impossible idea, but a fun idea.

I wouldn't completely disregard Neo coming out of the portal. Somewhat seems to know more than they should, so they could recognize Neo. Similarly, the Brothers could also have come through the portal. But Ruby is the most likely person to come through the portal. The big question is why? I can't imagine that it's just a social visit. Ruby might want to get leaves from the Great Tree to use them on Salem, which Somewhat conveniently received from the Herbalist. What would the leaves do in Remnant?
Yeah but those leaves he specifically received were given to the prince however we do see him drop the envelope so… maybe it makes its way back to him bc as it was pointed out in the episode, ascension isn’t needed to change.
5:46 My guess is because it was Neo's jabberwalker that it didn't possess the hyperdeath ability that the original jabberwalker had.
Is it beyond possibility that the brothers returned when Somewhat was there and they just knew who they were because they made the Ever After? Just a theory, but if the Blacksmith can make those portals because she is the Tree, couldn't the brothers also do that so they could journey between Remnant and the Ever After?

What if this whole episode just a fairytale Ruby fabricated maybe for her kid in the future, or just for herself for comfort, and in the end she inserted herself as to see Somewhat again? :)
I enjoyed it though I suspect It was Juane coming through the portal as it seems like he felt more at home in the Ever After than in Remnant.
The Bird was sent against a COPY of the Jabberwocker made by Neo not the eal Jabberwocker which is why it is probably still around
I think it's Ruby with Salem, and that's why there's mystery round who Somewhat saw. Salem will give back the relics after talk no jutsu and be convinced to go to the tree. Cinder is probably dead at this point.
It’s definitely Neo in her ascended form and she emerged from the blacksmith workshop in the tree where she encountered somewhat and juniper
The Cat didn't lead Team RWBY to the Herbalist. They actually were pretty clear about them not talking to anyone. But the Cat got distracted while leading them to the Garden Market and so Team RWBY met the Herbalist.
Yea but you would think, if the herbalists’ purpose IS so well known, the cat would have been more careful about team rwby encountering him. I hadn’t questioned it before but I actually think phoenix has a point

Neo's jabberwalkers may not have the original jabberwalker's kill afterans ability.
The Prince will become the King the next time we see him. He doesn't need to Ascend to become the King again he just needs to grow/change. Maybe the tree is trying to set things up so it is not needed. The brothers' creations showed the tree things can be done differently, Ascension is not needed for change.
I think the bird was brought back because it wasn't the real jabberwocky that killed it so it was able to ascend. I think it maybe took more time to come back because the Cat changed it's purpose to something that didn't align with his actual purpose.

Well I have to say it was a good episode though still annoyed it wasn't one the people of remnant during vol9. Regardless its was nice to see what was going on in the EVer After and seeing What somewhat is doing now, he is Ruby's son. Anyway seeing the bird I think this is reveal that the cat will return because its now highly possible that the jabberwalkers Neo made didn't have the ability to kill afterans for good. After all, none of the dead people Neo made had their semblances. That or it was a different bird. As for herd I think he has a fixed purpose and everyone there just knows it. But the ending! THAT ENDING! SO many questions! however there are things that may have answered them and things to remember.
For starts, Somewhat is only going to recognize team rwby since Jaune got deaged. Second, Lewis and Alyx are proof the staff isn't needed to get to the Ever After, though I do thing it is the staff, but still its is possible that they found another way to get there. Hell the sword could have the destructive power to break through the walls been worlds. But the question is why? No really why return to the Ever After? The Leaves may cause you to trip to try to convince you to go to the tree but that doesn't it will work in Remnant. And I highly doubt Ruby and her team can bring Salem there willingly, the witch bitch had literal hundred thousands to millions of years to work through her problems. And bringing the brothers back would mean this is end game stuff. So what can be in the Ever After that can help them in the fight assuming this happens before or during the battle?
I think it's not likely that Neo's Jabberwockers have the same power as the original one did.
It was a fun "OMG ESCALATING THREAT!!" theory, though.
Also, we can't be sure that was the same bird, since we have seen many "copies" of the same Ever Afteran before. There could be tons of blue birds who wear hats.
Could somewhat also recognize Neo's new form if she went to the ever after before going back to remnant?
Could honestly be the Jabberwocker didn't have that affect cause it was one of Neo's Illusions, not the real thing.
Uh the portal uh I am so bad writing that word anyway that gateway uh I think ruby rose herself makes sense because she knows little aka somewhat so it makes but I could be wrong so uh yeah so yeah and peace out :)

I liked the implication that the Blacksmith has selected Somewhat to take the place of the Curious Cat in helping Afterans find their way. It goes to show that the Ever After still needs someone to fix and/or what's broken. Only this time, it's done by someone who wants to help people out of the kindness of their heart. And not out of insatiable curiosity or because it's just their job. The Blacksmith probably did this so she doesn't have another Curious Cat situation.
But I do hope the Jabberwalker was remade or was replaced with a similar creature because Ever After needs a consumer so it doesn't become overpopulated. Afterans are technically immortal since they only reincarnate when they "die". Thus, that could lead to overpopulation and that's where the Jabberwalker comes in. As it is the only thing that can permanently destroy them. Therefore, the Jabberwalker must exist.
Somewhat and The New Jabberwalker are Yin & Yang. One saves, the other destroys.
I'm surprised that it seems like the Red Prince has humbled and now only wants to play just to have fun rather than winning for the sake of winning. I guess that's one thing the Cat did right.
Finally, two questions remain: Who was coming out from that portal and what has become of Neo?
The Cat brought team RWBY to the tree as part of his plan to wear them down so that he could take control of one of them, or possibly just as a test to see which of them was the weakest at that time, which was determined to be Ruby.
In case you weren't aware the Cat and most afterens use They/Them Pronouns
All because the Cat wanted to leave Ever After to discover why their creators and wanted to go beyond their purpose just like they did. The Cat's hunger for learning new things was insatiable. It made them more curious, deceptive, paranoid and impatient. The Brothers gave them no limit. The Curious Cat was Salem before there was a Salem.
In RWBY volume 10, I wanna see more fights, more redemption arcs, more romance, including rosegarden, and I do hope that Ruby Rose will have a final showdown against Salem. And I'm pretty hope that the Spirit of the Relic of Destruction will be voiced by Tabitha St Germain.
I do think that to understand the Prince's case one should remember that once he was fair, nice, and good as the King; then got "broken" by Alyx. So from that perspective he was repaired by Somewhat, so definitely fitting in the idea of them taking Curious's role.
As for the portal, the more I think about it the more it fits to be Ruby or RWBY from some point in the future; especially with time difference being in place between the worlds. From a certain angle I'd like it to be an Ascended Alyx or Curious; Neo also could be a thing but its a harder one to argue cause of Somewhat nor Little having too much interaction with her. ngl it'd be one way to sneak in a tease of what future (like multiple years down the line) team RWBY looks like.
Also Somewhat said, “it’ll be alright huntress” to Ruby so some part of Somewhat remembered that Ruby said she was a huntress.
It's probably ruby since she is The narrator of the episode.
I wanted to see what the Hunter Mice (where Little originated iirc) think of Somewhat. It'd probably be a similar "you seem familiar" kind of reaction tbh tho

I think it has to be the "true" jabawaker and the clones don't have the abilities of the original.
I think Hawker was rebirthed because that wasn't a True Jabberwalker just its form and didn't have its power to destroy things permanently.
Maybe the Staff of Creation has a failsafe in it should Salem ever get her hands on it that it will be thrown into the Ever After. Or even Maybe this is just where Ambrosius and the other Relic spirits go when they are not in use.
It Could also be the Blacksmith Coming to see Somewhat as she can make portals herself.
I think Hawker lived because the Jabberwackers Neo summoned weren't the original so the bird could go through ascension.

I think the bird surviving makes sense. Remember those Jabber Walker’s were made by Neo, it wasn’t the original. I can see why the bird survived because more than likely I believe only the original Jabber Walker has the ability to not resurrect Afterans it consumes

I think that Neo will go back to Remnant with Somewhat even if either Juane or Team RWBY are the one(s) that show up through the portal.
I wonder if anyone had come through the portal yet, or if Somewhat just saw the portal and assumed it was Ruby coming back. They might see the portal and assume it's one of the people they've met, unaware the person coming through could be Cinder or Salem.
12:57 - Somewhat could've noticed Neo in the tree at some point. She made a prettier wooden statue than Ruby did. More noticeable. Maybe this is who is back.

Her semblance operated quite differently in Volume 9 compared to every other Volume and was much more powerful in the Ever After. Her illusions would break in a single hit on Remnant, whereas in the Ever After, it was much more powerful. A single Jabberwalker copy took multiple hits to take out. Neo's semblance in the Ever After acted much more like creating a "Copy" rather than an "Illusion".
Also, everyone makes mistakes. I realize I could easily be wrong or forget some information at times and am open to being corrected but please be respectful when correcting others.
