I still struggle to see that kind of reaction as anything more than falsely using religion to justify racism
I myself am an Atheist from a religious country, grew up in a religious family, and attended a religious after school program. But never in my life have I come across someone who actually accused something of being satanic except when in the U.S.
My grandparents, the most religious members of the family, and the religious after school program I attended both knew what Pokémon was. Hell one of the kids even brought his Pokémon card binder to class to show it off and a priest came over who actually knew some of the cards
So I just can’t see it as a religious issue. Which just leaves the fact that it’s because Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh are from a different country and culture
