I was told by my Spine Doc that I have spinal cord compression at 3 levels & need surg. ASAP 2 prevent further damage, After he said this I swear I went deaf & didn't hear what he said the rest of visit about the surgery. Your video really was helpful &informative, Thank u.
Have to say THIS video is about the BEST informative explaination of the surgery that ive seen , ive been researching for about a month now because im going to have C4 - C7 cervical fusion done in a week .. thank you so much for taking the time to go through this ..
Thanx, you answered a lot of my questions. I am facing this surgery in the next month or two and have worried myself so much. I wish you had of mentioned range of motion after the surgery, but you can't cover everything. You did a great job in explaining everything and your patients are blessed to have you astheir Doc : ))
That's awesome presentation. I looked something like that for weeks on the internet and could'n find anything so descriptive as this one. Great JOB!!! Patient knows what to expect of.
I HAD ACDF C3- 4 C4-C5 C5-C6 IN JANUARY 2014. MY MAJOR PAIN (fingers & arm, shoulder) THE OPERATION WAS SUCCESSFUL , BUT I DO SUFFER WITH CHRONIC PAIN IN MY NECK , MY PAIN LEVEL IS 3 TO 4. I WAS A LOCAL TRUCK DRIVER , COULDN'T WORK ANY MORE, WENT INTO DEPRESSION, PLUS MY DOCTOR TOLD ME I'M GONNA NEED ANOTHER ACDF AT C6-C7 C7-C8 C8-T1* MUCH SOONER THEN LATER , I'M GONNA WAIT AS LONG AS I CAN. I'M GETTING SSDI ( SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY INSURANCE ). I HAVE OTHER MEDICAL ISSUES, JUST HOLD ON AS LONG AS YOUR ABLE, STAY HEALTHY, DO YOUR BEST TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SELF. I'M TAKING ONE DAY AT A TIME I'M 64 BUT SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE I AM 85. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL☺👍
Acute pain after six weeks of trying everything to reduce the pain of c5/c6 bone spurs from X-rays. Arm pain and back pain is excruciating. Waiting for MRI. This excellent explanation was very good before any talk about surgery. Thank you Dr. Asley
I had this surgery and my arms are still weak but the pain is gone. Very informative. But does not answer my question s about the weakness. I can barely use them
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS FABULOUS explanation! I have to have several (3 or 4) cervical discectomy tomorrow!!! How do they plate several in a row? do they just overlap them use one set of screws in both plates?
I had this operation and it fixe the problem with arm pain and neck pain. Post op problems are in the voice box . tightness in the throat, difficulty eating, neck spasms, and I was a singer for over 30 years and I cant do that anymore. I will be going to speech therapy soon. this is the only post op problem I'm having, however, it's been 5 years since it started.. so there be some post op problems- buyer beware
I have DISH disease and it is affecting my ability to swallow. Also I have traumatic issues from multiple car accidents from 30+ years ago that have crushed discs and I had broken my neck and the doctor never told me and all the while went through years of chiropractics. Have bones spurs as well. Am scheduled for ACDF in a week and a half and am terrified. How has your recovery been since this
I can’t sing after C 4 thru 7 surgery 2 years ago ...either. I also have a hard time swallowing. My neck and arm pain is returning, dr says it’s non union and I need more surgery through posterior. I’m reluctant and getting a second opinion.
Same here Steve... I had it done was a tenor singer. Sang Vince gil stuff on country opry show. A week after surgery a lump in my throat oh it's fluid it will go away?? Not.. I had to go back in for a emergency re do.. The infection ate at the hardware they put in had to replace they told me the infection was caused from the hospital. And I had to go to ent he said vocal paralysis so then I had to have vocal cord injections he told me it was somewhat like caulking they inject to bulk up the vocal cord and I'm no longer able to sing songs with a high range
I have surgery planned for this Thursday. My symptoms are a bit Asymptomatic as I have no pain per se, but total loss of the ability to raise my right arm since September 8. There was some mild muscle weakness on set prior but not noticeable enough to seek treatment, then sudden loss or arm. bicep and front deltoid loss complete. That MRI results are as follows: "Multilevel cervical spondylosis most notable at C5/6 followed by C6/7 and C4/5. At c5/6 there is compression and displacement of the cord secondary to a large side disc/osteophyte complex. Neuroforaminal narrowing at C4/5 and C6/7 notable." Dr. Recommends C4-C7 fusion ACDF. Concerned about range of motion and return to activity (golf and tennis). And considering second opinion that only C5/6 fusion needed. thoughts greatly appreciated.
Great presentation. Im having the same op but from the back of the neck and my doctor here in Australia is using my own bone chiseled from my hip - one bit of the op im not looking forward to - im having 2-3 and 4-5 done. Ive got Tortacolis and its very uncomfortable - at times, turning my head to the right and i cant turn to the left at all/. I just hope the op fixes this then ill be back to normal.
Dr I had an Alif L5 S1 I'm still having pain in my lower back in the joints of my l5 I had reduced pain following rf ablation on l5 but still the pain is there an unbearable what are your recommendations?
I have ACDF surgey 3 month ago.I remember walk ing into hosptial carry my laptop bag/small suit.Next i remember.I was so much pain and unable to move my right leg/hand I was in so much pain from the surgery .even with the pain medication. I wasn't eating anything .next month's I have lost 35 lbs.I lost control of my bladder and my bowel movement. To this day I have to improve.i still have complications.my neurosurgeon said just give another 6 months I should be completely heal.at this point I seriously doubt that.I'm still staying at at subacute place going on to my fourth months ..what is your opinion?
Chris Gardiner My surgery is in three days. I waited 6 years, gained 60 lbs., and have lost all good aspects of life. Surgery should have been done years ago; if you wait too long you WILL regret it-- I guarantee it. Can't wait for my surgery!! 👍😊
I've been waiting 2 years for surgery my life's been on hold I do martial arts can't do that cant lift anything heavy can't ride a bike as of pain and shock going from hand to neck but surgeons don't seem to be moving faster
I am in week three. too early to say it's worked but I'm being positive. One thing after watching some of these "clips", patients have not mentioned. about a week before your surgery, begin taking stool softeners. I was told this but did not start till after surgery. TOO LATE. about three to four days after surgery, I thought I was trying to pass a cinder block sideways!! other pain right now is back neck muscles. but don't forget softeners though. "This too shall Pass"
I would really explore all options before having this surgery. I was better off not having this procedure. Ask about the risk factors and how sometimes you will end up with perhaps dysphagia for the rest of your life. Imagine being on either mechanical or puree foods for the rest of your life. Think twice!! Ask and Ask more questions to help figure out if you are the correct candidate for this surgery.
reparatrice38 did your swallowing get better? My mom had 3 level ACDF and had to get into a feeding tube. been 3 month post op now. Still waiting for it to improve.

How did your surgery go?
Very well explained...Wish this Doc could do my surgery..

Thank you for this video...I'm getting surgery mon and it helps me a lot.
Wow thank you so much for this video it really help me to understand more

Thank you PRO!

Doctor does not mention allergy to peek plastic. That also is a risk maybe as many as 5% of patients.

There's nothing wrong with getting a 2nd opinion. My difficulty with swallowing resolved after about 2 weeks.

Paul Djurisic How are you doing now, 2 years on?? I'm getting C4-7 done in three days; wondering how much range of motion you have lost...
I had 3 levels done 3 years ago. I still have some stiffness, but the radiculopathy is gone.
@@sweettooth5737 Hi, How did your recovery go after your surgery and how are you doing now. I'm currently six weeks into mine.

Why would you still have weakness in the arms
Alguna medicina , ejercicio para el adormecimiento de las manos despues de la cirugia ...
Very informative
Beloved doctors, was spelling part of the medical science curriculum? Your "infusion" was quite entertaining.
great job Dr..ty
What about the referred headaches?

I am waiting two years in pain for this. Mri confirmed. My life is passing away in front of me and its still not done.

Mine only lasted about 2 weeks.
ACDF ...the "F" s/b Fusion not Infusion ...so title should read "The Spine Treatment Center - Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion"
They do “infuse” bone material so that it’s able to “fuse”.... so...
Your video is incredibly blurry. It's difficult to really see what you're referring to.
I had this procedure it worsed it, Now I can focus !
Sorry, That is one of the risk of a Anterior cervical fusion.
