Synopsis:
In a small college town in Iowa, Sam and Dean encounter the infamous Hook Man; a vengeful spirit who kills his victims with a shiny hook that serves as his hand. Sam and Dean learn that all the victims are connected to the daughter of a local minister. They race to find and destroy the Hook Man's bones before he comes after them.

This is definitely based on that hook man story you know. They use a lot of existing urban legends in the first season. Also, with ozone they mean that it smells like electricity, like you get when something short-circuits. And since ghosts tend to lead to flickering lights, I can understand why it smells like that.

Yeah, it's a very common horror legend/story. We've all heard versions of it at some point in our lives, not really surprised that supernatural jumped on that as well. I feel ya on the screeching, nails on a chalkboard sounds. Can't stand sounds like that either.
