When I worked in a gas station back in the 60's, a co-worker and I opened a bottle of Coke and put a penny in the bottle. After 4 days, we checked to see what was happening. The penny was corroded and starting to dissolve. Maybe if you would have brushed the items after a few minutes rather than let them sit, it may have removed some of the rust. Just a thought.
A friend once had a 39 Plymouth, bought with a rebuilt engine that had sat unoiled. The piston rings had seized to the cyl walls so bad that wd40 and a 1/2 inch breaker bar wouldn't break it loose. The bar slipped and my friend broke his knee.We broke the motor loose with Coke.It does indeed work.
You will still have to do some sort of scrub down, coke doesn't make it disappear. Even if you were to soak all the tools in a chemical de-ruster, you'd still need to do a scrub down. You expected too much.
Coke or in this case diet coke (doesn't sticky like regular coke) is a de-ruster but it's not a leave it in deruster, you have to scrub the rust off with a aluminum foal because it's a soft embrasive and not a major embrasive like a brisol pad and you pour the coke onto the rust and not leave it in. Coke is high on citric acid which is a type of acid that is partially strong but not too strong like the acidic apple cidar vinegar. Apple cidar vinegar in my case isn't good to use because of the smell, to those who don't balance their PH levels in their skin this is a warning once you touch or Dip your acidy skin onto acidy apple cidar vinegar you'll be in a lot of pain.
Techy Kun Apple cider vinegar is great for removing warts however!By the way, you mentioned aluminum foil. Is there some kind of scrubber you can buy that's made of this or you just mean the foil you buy in the box?
@@MatchboxGarageForgot to mention this; If a tanker truck is hauling Coca-Cola syrup in bulk, the truck has to have haz-mat placards displaying CORROSIVE.
the ones that have turned black have had a good transformation, the black stuff is Iron Phosphates, the white stuff you are seeing is because some parts were greasy when submerged, but generally its a good outcome. Trouble is, now they have had the phosphoric acid treatment what are you going to do now to stop them rusting again. I think would be best to degrease using dishwashing liquid and hot water, rinse and place in acid used by bricklayers. Use rubber gloves and eye protection, and rinse after use. Perhaps then dip in a good oil to stop immediate rust commencement once more.
not true , Its known that in order for the rusticol particles to be removed the iron phosphate has to generate heat therefore causing a chemical malfunction which leads to rust growing in the corner and your still reading this shit I have no idea ha
Hey Rob you should get Simple Green and throw everything back and try Simple Green and let everything soak in it a couple days and make this video again using Simple Green and then see what happens just some friendly advice
Yes, coke does de-rust but don't leave it in +24 hours without rinsing ... 'cuz you'll get mould and all kinds of icky stuff... coke 24 hours + rinse = perfect shine ;)
I've been told by people who have used it that Coke did work years ago but the modern Coke is a different recipe/formula and is no good for this purpose nowadays.
Glad to see you had the good common sense not to put your fingers in that highly corrosive liquid and used pliers. Did you know some people drink that stuff? The ER must be full of kids with their lips melted off.
First of all it does de rust and the fact you left it in for a few days is your problem. You allowed the sugar to settle and reattach itself to the metal. But it goes to show how lazy you are and how much you understand elemental change along with the adding and subtracting of elements. If you were smart you would have cleaned them at least 12-24 hours after you started. Then repeated your process for another day then scrubbed away all the rest of the rust. But the coke method is not supposed to take away the rust entirely but only enough so that the product being cleaned is reusable.
Garage Legacy ... If U combined all the rust videos, it would probably approach a billion...I personally use a lot of distilled 5% vinegar, but it takes time...for severely rusted with scales of rust, i submerge in muratic acid...CAUTION!! VERY TOXIC FUMES AND WILL BURN SKIN....USE RUBBER GLOVES AND EYE PROTECTION...MAKE SURE YOU ARE OUTSIDE UPWIND ..THE FUMES ARE TERRIBLE....IT WILL EAT ANY HEAVY RUST DOWN TO BARE METAL!!...U must then neutralize with baking soda disolved in water, then rinse and hand dry..
Oh my God lol that's amazing!! I'm restoring my 69 vw....I was originally going to rent a sand blaster to remove the rust on the bumpers but this idea of using coke cola is way cheaper wait till I tell my son in law about this thanks guys :)
I tried pouring coke on my rusted bumper and and scrubbed with a piece of foil and nothing happened even though I did see it with my own eyes in some video on You tube. It just didn't work for me.
Apparent Overdose of Car Stuff! Even flouride is ! Any excess amount of something is bad and could be harmful so I guess , maybe not that harmful right away but harmful in large quants
+Garage Legacy the soda pop diet mountain works as a de-rust you just have to let it sit over night like you did with the coke-a cola when removing rust with the Mountain Dew
urrently on the line with coca cola asking why this happens *EDIT* the lady said that she is gonna "research it" *EDIT* *2* she says it's because of the phosphoric acid in the product, which would make the same result possible with drinks like orange juice and champagne. I still don't believe that this is the best thing to drink. How does this information make you feel?
Please subscribe!
Yes it dose de rust and u can't just leave it sitting in there you have to rub on it to get the rust off
future avatar yea it does derust bc he's soppost to leave it in there for 24 hrs
future avatar to
then u might as well use fucking soap and water
wisco it won't work
wisco water is what rusted it in the first place

jiu-jitsu uoo
You need to scrub it with a dish washing sponge or something similar and it works like a charm.
Sir your not supposed to practice black magic out of hogwarts
Leaving the container unopened will generate better results, but still vinegar is better. Thanks for the video.

Hmm...its interesting that you saw Diet Coke in the video, although it was a RED foil around the bottle with a RED cap, meanwhile Diet Coke has GREY.
Techy Kun Apple cider vinegar is great for removing warts however!By the way, you mentioned aluminum foil. Is there some kind of scrubber you can buy that's made of this or you just mean the foil you buy in the box?
Jacob Becomes Israel Yes, foil out of the box.
NERD ALERT!!!!
Not much of a nerd with made up words like "embrasive," "acidy," and terms like "partially strong."
you have to scrub it. you cant just sit it there
maybe on the next one
Can someone alert my family I'm sitting dead in my chair after watching this video.
St. Apollonius Done - I already had your mums number.
Garage Legacy Damn son
St. Apollonius Send over here next, tell them not to worry, it won't go viral
+christopher Mendoza Fuck you Mendoza, he's a saint.
+Pierce The Potato no fucks are given
Your supposed to actually rub the rust off after with a wipe or very fine abrasives you skallywag.
Seb Emmett You won me back over calling me a skallywag!
I do know that the syrup used to make coca cola is used to clean the engine bays in the trucks that haul the products.
That's scary
@@MatchboxGarageForgot to mention this; If a tanker truck is hauling Coca-Cola syrup in bulk, the truck has to have haz-mat placards displaying CORROSIVE.
The acid is strong to loosen it but you still need steel wool or some type of abrasive to scrub it off.

Use 7Up- works GREAT!
+Mike Klusko I'm going to have to try using lemon lime 7up to remove rust I normally use diet Mountain Dew or real sugar Mountain Dew to remove rust
keep in mind people for this to work as a good de rust you have to skrub whatever has rust on it with a rag
+coolinator 1025 scrub scrub
Garage Legacy yes very very much lol
Next Counter Strike map: De_Rust
I thought the same
Linxyy 😂
You're supposed to use aluminum foil to scrub off the rust with it too.
do i have to leave it for some time before scrubbing it off with a foil?
nazirdjon no
Coke Cola is only good for taking the tarnish off of old coins.
Hey Rob you should get Simple Green and throw everything back and try Simple Green and let everything soak in it a couple days and make this video again using Simple Green and then see what happens just some friendly advice
Goldie is my favorite actress of al time. I love her. She is still cute a quirky, has a delightful preasence in any movie she is in
Yes, coke does de-rust but don't leave it in +24 hours without rinsing ...

coke 24 hours + rinse = perfect shine ;)
I usually soak it and stir it around with a straw bristle brush.
You have to scrub it with the coke!!!
Use tin foil to scrub the rust off and coke or diet coke (which isn't sticky) as the cleaner
Tin vs aluminum, does it make a difference? Crumpled vs sheet?
Salted Lance aluminum, crumpled. I forgot about this post it was so old. Lol
What did you do with the Coca Cola after this?
Thanks for the heads up!
"rusty ol' nuts" i died lol
Does it work with Coca Cola Zero sugar?
Try it
I've been told by people who have used it that Coke did work years ago but the modern Coke is a different recipe/formula and is no good for this purpose nowadays.
Tim Wallace Thanks Tim - Yeah I know they did change formula. Actually I believe the European formula is different to the US formula also?
Garage Legacy which formula kills you faster if you drink a lot of it?
You have to leave it there longer
Glad to see you had the good common sense not to put your fingers in that highly corrosive liquid and used pliers.
Did you know some people drink that stuff? The ER must be full of kids with their lips melted off.

it works if you leave for 24-hours. I left a rusty sledge hammer in a bucket full of Coca-Cola. looked like new next day
Does coca cola work as a de-rust? Bitch coca cola is a de-rust!
you have to rub it off with aluminum foil.
so with the rust that was left what or how did u get it off.....im testing this now as we speak with my horse bridle bits
You did this all wrong. Don't soak the items in coke, they need to be scrubbed.
Who can believe this has now hit over half a million views! Lolz..
Garage Legacy ... I would think the rust would settle at the bottom not float on the surface.
you just waste a coca cola
I did cry a little bit. I do love Coca Cola!
Correction: You just Coca Cola a waste
Cause Coca Cola is technically waste.
-The end
a 500ml bottle is 1.50 where I live
Really useful video n good to know Coke won't help in removing the rust.
1:36 Cause i really like coke
F.B.I OPEN UP! Just kidding☺ Nice content!
typical man..expects too much without a lot of work..rinse it off and scrub it down!!!!
You have to pure the coke on the rust and then use aluminium foul and rude it and it'll come off
Oh my God lol that's amazing!! I'm restoring my 69 vw....I was originally going to rent a sand blaster to remove the rust on the bumpers but this idea of using coke cola is way cheaper wait till I tell my son in law about this thanks guys :)
Linda Diaz Hi Linda - no problem - thanks for watching!
Your gonna need a big ass tub and about 2000L of coke to fully submerge a VW...
And careful might not be much left after (joking 😅)
Don't forget the mint, for a better show
Try Oil Eater's new Rust Soak! Super easy, super safe. Just super!!!
does anyone know where to dispose of the coke once ur done
You will achieve a perfect derusting using vinegar.
thanks for the advice
Well it is a drink after all so I wouldnt be surprised if there was still rust on it ..
I tried pouring coke on my rusted bumper and and scrubbed with a piece of foil and nothing happened even though I did see it with my own eyes in some video on You tube. It just didn't work for me.
Don't waste the remaining coke ... Drink it bro 😂😂😂
I would have used diet Mountain Dew to remove all the rust off those metals if I was him
I think full fat will work better
It's called water or a towel lol
For the coke to remove the rust you actually need to scrub it into the metal
+StobbyEnduroMX that's for another video
All the coke, ITS ALL GONE!!!
How long do you leave it in there
Your killing me r.i.p cocoa cola
The strange white is oxidisation i tink m8

Elbow grease works
What the hell is that? I will not anymore drink the coca cola !!!!
Patrik Michálek Coke is certainly bad for your teeth..
Apparent Overdose of Car Stuff! Even flouride is ! Any excess amount of something is bad and could be harmful so I guess , maybe not that harmful right away but harmful in large quants
Very true sir.
You must let it rest for one day. You will see great results.
24 hours is one day!

+Garage Legacy the soda pop diet mountain works as a de-rust you just have to let it sit over night like you did with the coke-a cola when removing rust with the Mountain Dew
