- Joker Analysis by a Therapist! I'm Chris the Counsellor and I make videos about Counselling Theory and I wanted to offer my take on the #Joker Movie from 2019.
In this video, I will be giving an overview of the movie from a Therapist's perspective, exploring topics including Mental Health, Mental illness, Self-Actualisation, and Counselling Theory.
You don't need to understand anything about Counselling theory to watch this video as any terms that are used are explained throughout.
The main focus of the video is to look at what I took from the film as a Therapist, linking to person-centred counselling, societies approach to mental health and the importance of Self-Concept and Self-actualisation throughout the Movie.
I will be analysing and dissecting the journey that ultimately leads to Arthur accepting and integrating his shadow side - The Joker! #Joker
Please feel free to comment below with any challenges, ideas or points that you would like to make about the movie and my analysis of it.

One thing that I forgot to mention in the video, is that the JOKER is a great representation of what Jung talks about when he mentions the "Shadow". The way that Arthur embraces this darker side of himself is a great example of what Jung means by the Shadow or Shadow side. It is the darker side of ourselves that we often deny or repress and Jung says that it is important to acknowledge and integrate this side of ourselves as part of the process of Individuation. The JOKER might be quite an extreme example of this but it is a perfect illustration of some of the characteristics of what the shadow side might be in a person (and also the danger of repressing or denying this too)
OMG! The Algorithm will go wild after this one! Mol you are awesome! G
Haha "Filming from Molyneux!!" Really glad you are happy about it my man. Would LOVE to hear your genuine reaction and the many things I am sure you can offer in addition to the things I have explored. Looking forward to your response :)

I am hoping to be adding new content but quite caught up with the new centre at present. Thank you once again for all your support and for leaving your comment - it meant a great deal. @@ChrisTheCounsellor Hi Chris,
I've watched the video about your new start and I wish you all the best! Hopefully you don't neglect totally this channel 😊.
I am hoping to see uploaded some videos related to Freud's perspectives related to counselling.
@Souenta Toska Thank you very much and I hope that I don't neglect the channel too much as well!! I will keep the suggestion of Freuds perspective in mind, but I do tend to focus on person-centred Counselling - let's see!! Take care, Chris
@@ChrisTheCounsellor Hi Chris!
Basically, I am a person centred adherent. But, getting an idea of defenses, attachments, object relation etc. (JOKER had all of them as well!) it helps to create a full portrait of the individual without taking any "control" over them. These are just useful tools to get connected in more depth with others. Empathy, is a big chapter in person centred theory. Hopefully, soon we get a dedicated video for it!
🙂
Totally agree Souenta and I will add it to the list of future videos :) thanks again for the support
Such A Great Interpretation!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LUV IT! Thank you
Thankyou! :)
Wow, this was really interesting to watch, I have to re-watch the movie just to see all those aspects with a different perspective.
Thank you! I think I’m due a re-watch myself!
Brilliant in depth information 😊
Thanks Daisy
wow. I wanted to ask you if you had seen this film. Some great connections made!!! highly relatable. will generate traction!!
Thanks so much Lauren, much appreciated :)
Also - you are welcome!
Amazing,, you have jsut given me a much deaper insite in to the joker and the film. Just when I though it couldnt get beter. Do you think that a second film would be good, or do you feel that all the needed to be understood about him has.
Thanks so much James, that's a lovely comment to read and glad you enjoyed it. I hadn't really thought about a second film, I was quite satisfied with the first, but I enjoyed it so much, I wouldn't say no! How about you?
@@ChrisTheCounsellor Id love a second film but it would have to be so carfully done so it doesnt undo the hard work of the first. By then end of the first film though we can see he's fully gone, although a second film showing the interview talks between him and harly quin would be fasinating to watch him manipulate her / corupt her.
do you think he could ever be rehabilitated?
@@jamesmcclennan1866 Well I think from watching the first film, it seems that there are roots in his experience in the world and his past. I guess I always have a belief that if things are rooted in this then they can be worked through and our approach/view of them can change. Having said that, there does seem to be some element of congruence in the Joker character for him and a freedom in being someone he has been repressing through all the struggle
how does the joker relate to carl rogers theory of personality
In a sense, that was what I was hoping to capture in this video. Are there any particular aspects of the theory of personality that would be helpful for me to try an answer for you here?
