I bought a J45 from you about 8 years ago and it sounds better now than it ever did. I play in a band doing rock covers and like you said, it’s perfect for the job.
I’d love an Atkin but they’re a bit hard to come by in North America. The D-18 is available in any and every Martin dealer. Gibson to me seems to take awhile to warm up. I’ve played new ones and they seem tingly like glass. My guitar is a custom shop Martin dread which I’ve played for five years and it is now very warm and rich compared to when I bought it. No two trees are alike. No two sections of the same tree are alike. No two guitars from the same builder are alike.
Super interesting and it's one thing to listen and another thing to play these. Was surprised at the Gibson in your face sound - really projected. Atkin have consistently wiped the floor with most brands for me. I suspect a Larrivee would have won top marks all round (I bought two from you and find them to be not only the best quality but the fairest price).
Nice video Sam. For me on each test the atkin just has more, more of every measure. The other two just sound boring in comparison. Whatever Atkin are doing they are getting it right for sure. Nick
If I was a miserable old git I would point out that the Gibson is not a dreadnaught. It’s a jumbo. Since I’m not I won’t. I sold all but on of my Martins and Gibsons and bought two Atkins. A Hawaiian Master and Essential D with a wider nut. No regrets😊

Great stuff!!! Thanks for watching :)
It’s obvious - I need all three….
That is the correct answer! We'll do you a deal on all 3.. ;)
Great video! Would love to see an essential Rosewood equivalent one : D28, D37, and ?…
Sounds like a great idea!! Watch this space..

I can’t quite believe how different the J45 was. I have a Martin D16gt which I like the sound of, but don’t find it to be the easiest thing to play.

For me, the Atkin.
Think I prefer the j45 in that comparison 😮
Quality oozes from all three guitars but it’s the Gibson for me.
