Because they've never seen livestock animals in person before, they've only seen ready-to-eat chicken.

And when she asked my mom what she was sifting, she looked so shocked and in awe of what wheat grains really looked like. She had like small packets of each kind of grains made to show it to her friends and classmates.
This is generally more likely in edible plants than animals because like, you can google a chicken and you'll probably see images of what a live chicken looks like. You look up what a pomegranate is and you probably won't see any of the plant besides the ripe fruit unless you seek info from wikipedia or something.

If you have a Wii, Trauma Team is a great medical game because the controls are a lot better than something like surgeon simulator. I say Trauma Team in particular since it has several different specialists. And it has healing goo... which are just starting to be a realistic thing in the form of surgical dermal adhesives.
