***** Cheers Dave. Yeah I am looking forward to getting a fiddle yard so I dont have to lift and box rolling stock when its not in use. I will get on to this job in the next few weeks, unless it gets too warm up the loft! Dave
This upload emphasises the importance of getting as much right at the beginning as you can, as this clearly results in smooth trouble free running....no matter what angle you look from, the whole experience is spot on...Oh how I envy you Dave, as despite knowing exactly what I should do during my 50 years plus of modelling, I still take the short cuts to get things running....I'll never learn, but constantly aware of how good mine could be if I did it properly....Regards...Bob
Robert Masterman As always Bob you make me sound very good ;-) so thanks for those kind words! I am really pleased with what I have achieved so far, I will keep trying to get things to the best I can and just hope you and others continue to enjoy what I do.CheersDave
Hi Dave Good update the wagon review was good and the rake of wagons looks good in the running session. On the coaches I think as long as they look close to colour I'm happy In reality paint would of faded in time so no two coaches are the same. having followed your progress for a time I think the fiddle yard will be a good addition. Looking forward to next update. Paul
Thanks so much for taking the time to post such a detailed comparison of the liveries! Definitely owe you one. I'm glad you've had a good experience with TMC. I haven't had any weathering work done from them but in early 2013 I ordered a B17 to be renamed into my chosen football team and they made a right hash of it. Two attempts and it just looked shoddy. I got it redone by Grimy Times and it's 1000x better. All my customisation work goes to Ste at Grimy Times now. Will probably be cheaper than TMC too.
sub39h Oh, that's not good! There wagons are certainly impressive, maybe your loco was a blip in their quality control. I aint sending my locos away to get them weathered just yet. I will check out grimy times! Thanks. Dave
That first van was lovely, i really like that!! A VBB did u say? Very nice other stock too, all weathered spot on! Gud to hear the fiddle yard plans r developing, and great session at the end!!
Matthew Snowden It's annoying paying good money for rolling stock (let alone paying extra for weathering) only then to have to pay more to get rid of the silly toy train couplings. Kaydee must be loving it. You should be able to buy the stock with realistic couplings.
Great video as usual Dave. All my rolling stock has come from TMC. I found their work to be excellent and have not had any issues. They heavily weathered my Duke of Gloucester and it looks very realistic and, so far at least, appears to be hard wearing. Ian
Dalston Junction That's good to know Ian, thanks. When I get my fiddle yard I wont need to be handling the coaches and wagons all the time, so this will hopefully keep them in tip top condition. Dave
Good running session Da e nice to see trains running on the upper level at last, I got some of them 29 ton box wagons tmc have done a good. Job of the additional weathering, tho will have a look at there website, have agp your self on wagons your track has come it well, so I'm sure you will do just as well with wagons Andy
Andy Hudson Maybe one day I will try the weathering on my own stuff, i'll add it to my to do list lol. Yeah nice to get the upper section operating, even it if it still only and end to end arrangement. I will link up he ends this coming winter.Cheers. Dave
dave love the new camera angles.i do love the 37. great news with the fiddle yard idea, its not easy to tell on the video but the radius would appear to be at least a 4th?. I have completed building my lower level now,so next two months on track laying, only going for 5 lanes now at 95 feet each as I had not originally thought of the access panel in centre of layout for derailing etc. fantasic as usual dave..... stu
Stuart Allport Hi, its 2nd radius ST-226 PECO set track being used, which will take it wider around to the new entrance to the fiddle yard. The camera may make it look bigger. Cant wait to see your layout in action. Cheers. Dave
Hi dave, great review on the Railfreight wagons. I've recently purchased 3 Bolster Bogies, 3 VVA Vans, 3 OBA, 3 OCA wagons and a 20 Ton brake to bring up the rear, all in BR Railfreight livery. Not sure what I should use to pull them though.
Nice to see some running on the upper section! Is it going to be a dedicated freight bypass or is it going to be 'anything goes'? Those wagons also really look the part, a nice rake you have yourself there! Some steel coils or sleepers would look good in those OBAs. Funnily enough, I picked up some of the weathered VGAs today, which came factory weathered but they didn't have same effects on the roof as yours. I'm now tempted to pick up some of those railfreight vans after seeing your video as the odd one may have popped up in the late 90s. Looking forward to the next video as always! Joe
Joe Jabczynski Hi Joe, the upper line will be a high speed mainline, for HST's, Class 91 225 sets and loco hauled passenger expresses. It will also do freight, such as coal hoppers, however the long rake of my hoppers with resin coal loads makes it too heavy for a loco to get up the incline from the lower section, so some double heading may be called for there!Cheers.Dave
Ooh that makes sense actually. That'll look very impressive with a train pulling into the station with an HST speeding past. Ahaa an excuse for another loco! ;) Joe
Hi Dave I model Norwegian and Swedish but I am looking for a West Highland Line class 37 either Loch Awe , Lomond , Rannoch or Long. any ideas would be appreciated.
Great update. The rolling stock looks great. I like the new idea for the fiddle yard. Much more room for storage.
Scott
Another great video Dave. Great to see the Dean Park upper level in operation and i'm looking forward to the fiddle yard. Keep up the good work.
Great video. The plan for the fiddle yard sounds good. I also like the wagons.
pleasure to watch as always, that upper level really is the dogs dangley bits when the trains are running on it :)
locomotiveAlex1996 Cheers lol, yeah I do like the upper section, it looks the biz, with trains running on it if I do say so myself lol.
Nice bit of weathering on the box van Dave , looks like you are going to be busy with the extra track space ..nice update

Great update. The recent landscaping looks excellent and TMC have done a really good job on those wagons

Your work is so inspiring Dave, and something you should be very proud of...Regards...Bob
I've followed your progress from the start, your layout has come on leaps and bounds, it looks so realistic, great job! some nifty video work too..
A very good follow up to the first part of the update Dave. Those new wagons look the business behind the class 27
Jacks Model railways Cheers, yeah I do like a bit of freight on the layout. Thanks. Dave
Brilliant as always ...Thanks for sharing.....

Paul White Good point about the faded paint. That's a really valid point! Cheers. Dave

In the cold weather have you thought about 80w tubular heaters in the loft may take the chill off if not buy some hand warmers like I use for fishing

There is a mark 2 in intercity swallow livery still at Carnforth steam town where west coast railways are based on the west coast mainline
Awesome as usual.
Great stuff!
