Thank you for this. I occasionally play a video game called "Atlantic Fleet" which includes all of the major Royal Navy and German vessels and has some of the more famous/infamous battles as scenarios. Wikipedia never has enough information, but a search on RUclips will cough up an interesting, deep dive of a Skynea History video on it.
The Tribals had interesting lives even though most of them were sunk in 1938-39. We have the more famous ones like Nubian, Cossack, and Eskimo, but there are some others like Lucky Tartar who stole Enigma codebooks and machine parts, and Ashanti who is one of the few who have a good relationship with the people she was named after.
Seriously aside from her loss in a collision, her curriculum vitae is representative of how hard the Tribal class ships were worked in the first years of WW2. Their extreme loss rate is not due to being bad ships but due to being basically anywhere the action was.
Accidents happen look at HMS Duchess but when they happen too frequently in front of dangerous foes like the Kriegsmarine and the IJN it compounds the seriousness of the situation that World War Two was.
I spent a good chunk of my life working at sea, I like hearing about ships, but I do not go full nerd on it. I am not sure my memory is good enough to these days - lol. But the first thing I thought when I saw the thumbnail was Tribal Class. Maybe from playing that old submarine sim game as a Kraut and having the Tribal class depth charging me (I liked the one playing as a Yank in the Pacific better though).
The quote re the Tribal class was "a ship designed by and for HMS Excellent" (Royal Navy gunnery school). I have read that the position of the 40mm Pompom mount originally was to house a fifth twin 120mm but saner heads prevailed
0:11 Can I just say, on RUclips, I’m surprised how scarce documentaries regarding the Battle of the Barents Sea actually are? Given all that resulted from it, you think more Historical content creators would make videos discussing it? But no… … I just find it odd.
HMS Punjabi is my favorit of the Trial class. Could you do a video about the HMS Trinidad (46), The Type 1934A class destroyer or the HMS Manchester (C15)?
Super content, as is usual with this guy. This channel will be a great resource for future generations to learn the facts.
It's good to know more about HMS Punjabi outside of her unfortunate demise (and by the bow of the battleship she often escorted, too...)

Sunk in 1938 -9? How did they manage that? The first Tribal to be sunk was HMS Gurkha in April, 1940.
What's Ashanti's relationship with her namesake people got to do with anything?
Have you got your dates right as WWII didn't start until 1st September 1939
Thanks for the video.😊😊😊

Always enjoy your videos. Not a bad one in the bunch. Thanks

With that weapons load out of twin mounts she seems more like a Gearing rather than a Fletcher class can.
You should do an episode about the sub that was mentioned

I was wondering if Skynea had or has a public Discord server, but I really don't know who to ask about that?

@cathybrind2381 I didn't have anything useful to say so I mentioned popular things for the algorithm.
