I think the thing that makes me love Imposter is that, even though his special talent is perfectly impersonating people, he still can't bring himself to be mean to anyone, even if it makes him less effective as a doppelganger. He just goes around protecting and caring for everyone, while also dressed as Byakuya, who would never do or say half the things he says and does. He tries to blend the rude demeanor with his own kind heart, by lightly bullying people into trusting him and caring for themselves. "I am Byakuya Togami, I am better than you will ever be, and that means I will do all the work and never let anything bad happen to you."
I liked how the Imposter's impersonation of Byakuya felt much less self-serving than the real Byakuya, taking up an immediate leadership position, actually caring about the students, using his talent for the good of everyone rather than to permanently brush his ego by putting them down; instead making them feel safe through his pure confidence. This all honestly made me more convinced that this Byakuya was the same one after DR1, as I simply assumed he had matured a bit more after the events of the first game. Definitely a based favorite character, I always wished he survived the simulation a little longer and had more screen time throughout the anime, because I feel like we never truly understood the Imposter under all the characters he played, only glimpses into the man behind the mask through comparing him to his genuine counterparts.
I liked the ultimate imposter and the way they reaaaaally made it seem like he was the OG byakuya who we now assumed he probably watched his friends get murked and found himself in a new killing game It really made the first death in sdr2 hit hard. Plus he is really cool in the anime

Yes ! Mukuro is so criminally underrated, her treatment and development in Danganronpa If was so good, she honestly deserved to be a survivor in the first game.
Mukuro is definitely on my list! I'm only vaguely aware of her role in Danganronpa If so I'd have to do a little more investigating. But I do like her enough that she deserves some time in the spotlight.
Fun fact: Mukuro is the only mainline killing game participant not cosplayed by Shirogane. Not even as "Dupe-ko Eh? Not Shima?". I'd love to see more! I'd watch every single one if I can! I'm no longer as fixated on Danganronpa as I once was, but I genuinely smile when I remember these characters and how they helped me get through the past couple of years. I also just love hearing other people's takes on characters, and am a big fan of some of the lesser popular ones.

Imposter is bae. As a fat character, they remind me a bit of Bob from Tekken. Their fatness clearly calls to typical fat jokes in media, which is immediately present because of the contrast between our old perception of Togami, and his stoicism at odds with his adorable pudgy exterior. The comedy quickly gets turned on its head as Imposter resists the implications of typical fat jokes as character flaws, and instead holds their physique with confidence, skill, ability, etc. A lot of other characters are won over by their coolness and begin to respect him AND his physique, like Ibuki and Sonia. It’s also funny because old Togami was also particular about his own physique in his FTEs, and used his logical way of thinking to explain his mentality about why he felt that his physique was optimal and perfected. But we can see imposter manage to perfectly replicate Togami’s way of arguing and posturing, while arguing on behalf of a completely different physique. It’s a testament to Imposter’s design that he can manage to look equal parts adorable AND cool. I think Imposter’s background draws intrigue. Like, they say they were in a living hell and that they were used to mutual distrust, so what is it about their current situation that makes Imposter start to open up more to Hajime? Has Imposter simply never been given access to a decent peer group before enrolling at Hope’s Peak? Is this saying something positive about the academy, that the academy allowed them to find people they could open up to? Imposter’s talent is what allowed them to meet all these friends, but can the Imposter have a talent once they discard their guise? Chiaki claims that Imposter had no choice, that Imposter couldn’t decide for themselves, that they were a slave to their talent, their existence. This could suggest a meta implication that a character defined by a certain trait or ability can’t simply discard that trait. Imposter is only in the story at all, diagetically and NON diagetically, because they are an imposter. Imposter was written to be who they were because the writing wanted this clone of Togami to toy with the player, separate from the actual cast. I also wonder how much of Imposter’s personality is influenced by the disguise? Monokuma says that real imposters are skilled because they can convince people that they are who they say they are even if a lot of things don’t add up. Imposter isn’t skilled because they can perfectly imitate anyone, they’re skilled because they can convince people that they are someone. Details like Imposter’s physique and maybe some of Imposter’s personality elements differing from the real Togami are irrelevant, because Imposter is skilled enough that people don’t doubt their identity. Imposter doesn't exhibit more of Togami's negative traits because they simply don't need to in order to convince people. This also obviously works on a meta level. We, the player, see OBVIOUS contradictions from the Togami we knew, but those contradictions make us think that we’ll be told HOW this change happened, not that this is an imposter. It’s just the meta conclusion we naturally come to, even though technically we have solid evidence, more so than the characters have, to suggest that Imposter is a fake. In fact, this probably makes us MORE likely to believe this Togami is the same Togami than if it was a one-to-one crossover, because then we'd just be wondering why only Togami has carried over, and wonder what twist will they play with Togami? It makes us question just how different we’d allow a character to be from their normal selves before we start questioning their identity or accuracy. What is our burden of proof for fictional characters? It makes us look at how much we can excuse or try to justify when characters are obviously innacurate to their original portrayals. Honestly, this idea probably would've wound up in V3 if it wasn't used in DR2, since it can easily be turned into a criticism of serialization and fans forgiving inaccuracy and inconsistency. I feel like an extra level of tragedy from Imposter is that we know that being in this class of peers didn't help them. They became an ultimate despair. More than likely, in the real world, they wallowed in their false identity, unable to break it, unable to achieve individuality or have anyone understand them.

Tbh I wish there was a Danganrompa game with only the underrated and underdeveloped characters, especially in the lesser known spin off material. Maybe even bring in some of the more hated characters and give them more redeeming qualities or redemption arcs.
14:41 I‘ll blatantly add my own 2 cents here, cuz that‘s a ship I like as well. For me, it‘s mainly, because when it comes to Ibukis FTEs, it feels like we barely learn anything about her, but instead go on a journey of cheering up hajime. While ibuki certainly is a *character* that loves to be energetic and in the center of attention in a group, it feels like in a 1 on 1 dynamic, she cares much more for the other than herself -hence her being a good pair up with the identity-troubled imposter. (As example look at the flashback where mahiru approached her, she was immediately okay with letting go of a fun afternoon with everyone to comfort and spend time with the troubled Mahiru.) I also relate a lot to her in the sense that I think she kinda puts up a big show to hide her true feelings and troubles, kinda evading them in a sense, buuut that might be a bit of projecting and I am rambling a bit. The point is, ibuki‘s awsome, imposter‘s awsome, they make a good pair!
I've actually talked about this with someone before about this other factor! I think another look into their dynamic is that Ibuki is someone who does not compromise her style or her way of life for anybody all that much. And then there's Imposter who has to change themselves constantly with no sense identity that befit the situation with nobody to know who they are EVER and would be constantly vigilant of others. And even though Ibuki is friendly and welcoming, I remember in her FTEs that she has a hard time keeping friends with her overbearing personality and energy. One is the embodiment of individuality while the other is not allowed to have one at all. Both are opposites, but ultimately, they share the same problem with getting close to others because of who they are or what they do. This OTP couldn't be more perfect if they tried! (in my eyes anyway)
That is a cool art piece! Also, I really love how the Imposter uses his talent in a constructive manner rather than using it to destroy people. (I'd also love to hear you bashing Nagito. That guy's my least favorite.)
I think the events in the Development Plan and Summer Camp really develop Impostor, and especially with their interactions with the actual Togami. Togami treats the Impostor as some kind of stain in his reputation, but rather than defend themselves, the Impostor claims responsibility towards the fact they only know Togami as someone to disguise themselves as, and actually apologizes to Togami for their existence. They kind of did the same thing with Ryoma in V3 as they know that their life/talent is flawed, but they just have to accept it. One of my favorite characters in the series. They should get more attention than the annoying hope-obsessed douche that Nagito was.
This video was great! Also, if you every did another one, I'd want to see it with either Mukuro, Sayaka, or Rantaro, as they, like Twogami, had very little screen time in the games despite all being very interesting. Also because their are all somewhat misunderstood.

Ya know, I’m quite curious about Nekomaru when it comes to the fandom. There’s not much to go on with him other than fans telling me that they see him as a big muscle head, only known for toilet humor, or overall just a “cool dude”. And I feel the third point makes me sad, cuz in a way they’re not wrong. The guy doesn’t make a lot of impacts other than he became a robot, helped motivate Akane while also sacrificing himself which took him away from the third trial. (That really peeved me off cuz that gives him even less screen time and less voice lines). And when he does come back. His “big” moment during Chapter 4 was only voiced by Gundham’s pov and its like… I don’t know where I’m going with this. Main point is, despite making it all the way to the fourth chapter. It sure feels like he’s got just as much screen time or impact as if he died in Chapter 2-3. I love the guy, my absolute favorite in the series. And yet he’s in such a weird position where he lasted long, but not noticeable in the fandom. Heck Game Grumps don’t know the guy, and you’d think Arin would love him since they both love toilet humor.
Fellow member of the fan one and certified Large Character Enjoyer (4 of my top 15 at this point are Sakura, Nekomaru, Gonta, and The Imposter). Nekomaru got my attention quite quickly when he told Hajime to say his name louder and prouder. He strikes me as one of the most humble and loyal members of the group, which is refreshing knowing how many mean and spiteful characters there are in SDR2. Nekomaru also is the main catalyst for what little character development we get from Akane, another unapreciated character. I feel like, without him challenging her to do better, and his untimely death, Akane would have given in to dispair. Finally, and this is the big one, Nekomaru had one of the top 3 most noble reasons to commit murder. If what Gundam said is true (I believe him, btw), Nekomaru and Gundam were in a death battle. This means they were both willing to be the victim and they were both willing to be the killer. The only reason Nekomaru would do this is the motive some believe Gundam have: to end the starvation. Nekomaru, just like Sakura and Kaito, wouldn't want to win the trial. That sacrifice is so heartwarming. That alone puts him in my top 15.
Okay, seeing myself in this video made me laugh. I love your thoughts about the imposter. Hearing more about him brings him up to at least the top 15 for me (I should make a tier list, lol). My favorite thing about Twogami is how he fits so well as Togami, even without knowing what happened to Togami. It would make sense to me that "he" gained weight from trauma. I've done the same thing. It makes perfect sense that "he" would be the leader. Togami already went through this game once and knew what "he's" doing. Of course, "he'd" be kind. Trauma can be humbling. The imposter is so perfect that he didn't need to know everything, and I think that's really cool. ETA: Can I make another request? I'd love to see your take on the okayness of Chiaki Nanami. Everyone loves her sooo much, but I too think she is overrated. Love to see your thoughts once again!

Headcanons are there for a reason, we don't know much about them, so it's fair to have a headcanon about their gender identity 2 ) "obviously male" - if you're basing that on appearance alone, that is not always and indicator of someone's gender identity nor expression. Gender is a spectrum and clothing does not have a gender; in their case, just because they are using byakuya as a template, does not mean that they are the same gender as byakuya oh, that would be like saying a cosplayer has to be the same gender as whomever they are cause playing as.

Also, in another game by Spike Chunsoft (Based around baseball, don't remember the name right now), they created a character with his same physique (And Kaede's color palette) whom, guess what, is a guy as well lol Not to mention his swimsuit in Danganronpa S. He was never meant to be non-binary nor anything like that. The whole Gender unknown thing was completely misinterpreted by people and so his character development around that part was completely ignored. That's why he's still referred to as "They/Them" in the Wiki instead of (Rightfully) "He/Him", unfortunately.

When I first joined the fandom, I didn’t really care about imposter But I got around to see the anime and got to learn more about Him/Them He/They have such a carrying personality and is so sweet I love His/their relationship with Ryota I love how he/They isn’t/aren’t ashamed of their body and is happy the way he/they is/are
I love this . I like Impostor and he is definitely one of the better characters from danganronpa 2. Is there any chance you will make a movie about Ruruka Ando one day? I know Fandom doesn't like her. In my opinion, a bit too much and very often what she did was exaggerated by fandom. And for me, she is the best character in the entire danganronpa series, and I'd love to hear your kind of analysis about her.
I may in the future! I haven't had the time to look into her too deeply and I'm only familiar with the despair half of the anime tbh. But I'll keep that in mind when I get around to watching it!

Having seen your real tierlist, I'm really curious about your reasoning for it. It's interesting, because you and I share a lot of opinions in some areas, while in others we feel completely differently
Im gonna go on a rent but please bear with me. I think he could have gave Sonia some development, here's why, when everyone is following Byakuya to the timer, you can see Mahiru trying to convince Sonia to take the leader role and Sonia refusing, What if after Byakuya's death Sonia, as the ultimate princess, tried to take his role as a leader to make sure his sacrifice wasn't for nothing, but fail and fail again. This could have given her the development she need as a survivor and make hus death stick, because she could never be as brave as him, it would also give Nekomaru's sacrifice in ch3 mean something for her too, reminder: it's implied he knew Nagito was gonna get killed by Teruteru, and threw himself in his place, Byakuya KNEW he would die and did it anyway for his classmate even after he saw him reach for a deadly weapon! Sonia could have been the Suichi to his Kaede, someone who remembers him through the whole game Now im gonna stop before this turns into a ch6 rent
What’s funny/sad to me is that the /r/danganronpa I was so mentally torn on who to vote for and even though I picked the OG, I still dedicated a good paragraph why Twogami is such a gem. Love the video! Think the existence of Twogami also does a great job of pretending to be Byakuya post his dg1 character development which is rad too.
You know I am part of a crossover rping server. Essentially any character from any franchise is allowed to be claimed and rped as in this server. And this got me thinking, The Ultimate Imposter has a lot of potential in this server. I could maybe even have him impersonate non Danganronpa characters since its a crossover. Though in his case he's a parody and not an impersonation But yeah, *very* cute and wholesome and nice to listen to! I'd love to hear your opinions on basically _anyone_ from SDR2, so feel free to cover our favourite sperosexual next (that's a term that I came up with to describe Komaeda's apparent attraction to hope that he both openly professes to and the one that he also demonstrates when under the effects of the aphrodisiac in the anime) Speaking of the anime, I forgot that it developed the Impostor so much. That has to be its strongest merit, cause I loved every second they were on-screen. And it was through their introduction where they pretended to be Mitarai before Yukizome dragged them away that I learned that you can eat crisps with chopsticks to keep your fingers clean! And that lead me to eating with chopsticks far more frequently and I love doing that! Also I am so utterly flattered that my comment was the first one to show up....
I wish I could use chopsticks half as well lol. But I do plan on refining the Nagito script eventually. My opinions are Very Mixed and I don't want to do him a disservice, even if I'm not very fond of him.

My biggest (and possibly most controversial) Danganronpa hot take is that the Ultimate Imposter would have become a fan-favourite character if it weren't for fatphobia/they'd been designed as a skinny character. The fandom's reaction to Rantaro showed that even a character who dies early on can become a fan fave, and they actually have a lot in common character-wise (introduced as plot important but then killed off first, only for their backstory to come back later on as a subplot, tries to prevent the killing game and dies because of it, generally more caring personality) - And yet Rantaro became a fave and meanwhile I have to SCRAPE AO3 to find any good Imposter content.

Idk how to start this comment off, but I love Twogami and I will most definitely make fan art of him. I will also draw the real Byakuya getting punched in the face by a random guy because of the Ultimate Imposter thing. This will be fun :)
I dislike the impostor, I think it was just a way for people to speculate, imagine why he’s here, if this is a prequel or a sequel and why he’s in that situation while didn’t expecting it (or maybe he did and he was playing dumb and was here for another reason). He could’ve been the copy of any other character even someone we didn’t know yet so I think he was a marketing choice to make people interested in the game. Even though you said there was clues I was very very careful about what he said, there’s nothing strange Togami would’ve not said. On the other hand there are a couple of unsolved and meaningless lines about him having lived distrusting others and having a secret he was going to tell that made sense in both cases but more in case he was really Togami. His impression of Togami is so perfect he doesn’t even copy him from before the school killing game but after it. (I’m referring to his attitude not his memories of course, because the impostor knows nothing after entering hope accademy) That’s another issue I have with him it’s unbelievable we have literally nothing out of his character but it’s even more unbelievable that even though he knows nothing about the Togami who lived the Killing game he conveniently replicates all the traits he gained through the first game and says things never resolved that could’ve all come from the real Togami who knew everything. (In fact he’s never truly in shock or frightened but he’s by far the most calm in the group beside Chiaki who’s calm for obvious reasons) That’s because who made the game line up all those coincidences and cheated by giving the impostor traits Togami had not before the killing game, that means he’s either a completely incompetent impostor (which we know he isn’t) with personal traits that emerged that are the exact same Togami developed unbeknownst to him or he had info on Togami it’s impossible he has. Either way a plot hole. What are those traits? Being disgusted with Monokuma’s game. A more good attitude to his teammates. He doesn’t want to sacrifice them for himself but rather guide them to victory in the best way he can. That includes a will to constantly keep an eye on as much people as he can. Also while having a very precise plan to always have witnesses and therefore preventing murderer (in the first game if you forgot he kept everyone working together in all of chapter 5 and 6, when he decide to be a leader, he gave precise good tasks while surveying as much as he could and even have people go in bathroom in pairs). So the impostor lines about him being a leader and not letting anyone die is fully coherent with the Byakuya post chapter 4 because that’s exactly what he did after it. The only reason why the impostor’s leadership stood out more than Togami’s is not because there was any difference (they acted exactly the same) but because it was the beginning of the game and there wasn’t any other plausible leader except him to question him (while in the first game there was Kyoko and her strong combination with Makoto that guided the group for 4 trials while Togami was busy being a jerk).
It's simple, actually. He's not imitating Byakuya after the events of DR1, he's imitating Byakuya while also adding bits of his real personality (Which we see better in DR3 where he does the same as Ryota).

Tbh before it was revealed he was the Ultimate impostor, I though he was one of Byakuya’s siblings who ended up losing to him because of his empathy.
That could be something that happened to them in the past.

Mukuro is definitely on my list! I'm only vaguely aware of her role in Danganronpa If so I'd have to do a little more investigating. But I do like her enough that she deserves some time in the spotlight.
Fun fact: Mukuro is the only mainline killing game participant not cosplayed by Shirogane. Not even as "Dupe-ko Eh? Not Shima?".

I'd love to see more! I'd watch every single one if I can! I'm no longer as fixated on Danganronpa as I once was, but I genuinely smile when I remember these characters and how they helped me get through the past couple of years. I also just love hearing other people's takes on characters, and am a big fan of some of the lesser popular ones.

Imposter is bae. As a fat character, they remind me a bit of Bob from Tekken. Their fatness clearly calls to typical fat jokes in media, which is immediately present because of the contrast between our old perception of Togami, and his stoicism at odds with his adorable pudgy exterior. The comedy quickly gets turned on its head as Imposter resists the implications of typical fat jokes as character flaws, and instead holds their physique with confidence, skill, ability, etc. A lot of other characters are won over by their coolness and begin to respect him AND his physique, like Ibuki and Sonia. It’s also funny because old Togami was also particular about his own physique in his FTEs, and used his logical way of thinking to explain his mentality about why he felt that his physique was optimal and perfected. But we can see imposter manage to perfectly replicate Togami’s way of arguing and posturing, while arguing on behalf of a completely different physique. It’s a testament to Imposter’s design that he can manage to look equal parts adorable AND cool.
I think Imposter’s background draws intrigue. Like, they say they were in a living hell and that they were used to mutual distrust, so what is it about their current situation that makes Imposter start to open up more to Hajime? Has Imposter simply never been given access to a decent peer group before enrolling at Hope’s Peak? Is this saying something positive about the academy, that the academy allowed them to find people they could open up to? Imposter’s talent is what allowed them to meet all these friends, but can the Imposter have a talent once they discard their guise? Chiaki claims that Imposter had no choice, that Imposter couldn’t decide for themselves, that they were a slave to their talent, their existence. This could suggest a meta implication that a character defined by a certain trait or ability can’t simply discard that trait. Imposter is only in the story at all, diagetically and NON diagetically, because they are an imposter. Imposter was written to be who they were because the writing wanted this clone of Togami to toy with the player, separate from the actual cast.
I also wonder how much of Imposter’s personality is influenced by the disguise? Monokuma says that real imposters are skilled because they can convince people that they are who they say they are even if a lot of things don’t add up. Imposter isn’t skilled because they can perfectly imitate anyone, they’re skilled because they can convince people that they are someone. Details like Imposter’s physique and maybe some of Imposter’s personality elements differing from the real Togami are irrelevant, because Imposter is skilled enough that people don’t doubt their identity. Imposter doesn't exhibit more of Togami's negative traits because they simply don't need to in order to convince people. This also obviously works on a meta level. We, the player, see OBVIOUS contradictions from the Togami we knew, but those contradictions make us think that we’ll be told HOW this change happened, not that this is an imposter. It’s just the meta conclusion we naturally come to, even though technically we have solid evidence, more so than the characters have, to suggest that Imposter is a fake. In fact, this probably makes us MORE likely to believe this Togami is the same Togami than if it was a one-to-one crossover, because then we'd just be wondering why only Togami has carried over, and wonder what twist will they play with Togami? It makes us question just how different we’d allow a character to be from their normal selves before we start questioning their identity or accuracy. What is our burden of proof for fictional characters? It makes us look at how much we can excuse or try to justify when characters are obviously innacurate to their original portrayals. Honestly, this idea probably would've wound up in V3 if it wasn't used in DR2, since it can easily be turned into a criticism of serialization and fans forgiving inaccuracy and inconsistency.
I feel like an extra level of tragedy from Imposter is that we know that being in this class of peers didn't help them. They became an ultimate despair. More than likely, in the real world, they wallowed in their false identity, unable to break it, unable to achieve individuality or have anyone understand them.

My partner who was currently playing DR2 absolutely fell in love with "Byakuyas character development" so I made her one of those hoaky aesthetic hearts collage background with stuff like gaslight gatekeep girlboss all while thinking "the imposter would NEVER"
Tbh I wish there was a Danganrompa game with only the underrated and underdeveloped characters, especially in the lesser known spin off material. Maybe even bring in some of the more hated characters and give them more redeeming qualities or redemption arcs.
14:41 I‘ll blatantly add my own 2 cents here, cuz that‘s a ship I like as well. For me, it‘s mainly, because when it comes to Ibukis FTEs, it feels like we barely learn anything about her, but instead go on a journey of cheering up hajime. While ibuki certainly is a *character* that loves to be energetic and in the center of attention in a group, it feels like in a 1 on 1 dynamic, she cares much more for the other than herself -hence her being a good pair up with the identity-troubled imposter. (As example look at the flashback where mahiru approached her, she was immediately okay with letting go of a fun afternoon with everyone to comfort and spend time with the troubled Mahiru.) I also relate a lot to her in the sense that I think she kinda puts up a big show to hide her true feelings and troubles, kinda evading them in a sense, buuut that might be a bit of projecting and I am rambling a bit. The point is, ibuki‘s awsome, imposter‘s awsome, they make a good pair!
I've actually talked about this with someone before about this other factor! I think another look into their dynamic is that Ibuki is someone who does not compromise her style or her way of life for anybody all that much. And then there's Imposter who has to change themselves constantly with no sense identity that befit the situation with nobody to know who they are EVER and would be constantly vigilant of others. And even though Ibuki is friendly and welcoming, I remember in her FTEs that she has a hard time keeping friends with her overbearing personality and energy. One is the embodiment of individuality while the other is not allowed to have one at all. Both are opposites, but ultimately, they share the same problem with getting close to others because of who they are or what they do. This OTP couldn't be more perfect if they tried! (in my eyes anyway)
not to mention that there does seem to be hints of a mutual interest between them in the actual game :)

Non Biney Twogami is the best headcanon of all time
I think the events in the Development Plan and Summer Camp really develop Impostor, and especially with their interactions with the actual Togami. Togami treats the Impostor as some kind of stain in his reputation, but rather than defend themselves, the Impostor claims responsibility towards the fact they only know Togami as someone to disguise themselves as, and actually apologizes to Togami for their existence. They kind of did the same thing with Ryoma in V3 as they know that their life/talent is flawed, but they just have to accept it.
One of my favorite characters in the series. They should get more attention than the annoying hope-obsessed douche that Nagito was.

This video inspired me to practice drawing more Impostor! I already love them so much as a character, but somehow this video made me love them even more!! Ya know, I’m quite curious about Nekomaru when it comes to the fandom. There’s not much to go on with him other than fans telling me that they see him as a big muscle head, only known for toilet humor, or overall just a “cool dude”. And I feel the third point makes me sad, cuz in a way they’re not wrong. The guy doesn’t make a lot of impacts other than he became a robot, helped motivate Akane while also sacrificing himself which took him away from the third trial. (That really peeved me off cuz that gives him even less screen time and less voice lines). And when he does come back. His “big” moment during Chapter 4 was only voiced by Gundham’s pov and its like… I don’t know where I’m going with this.
Main point is, despite making it all the way to the fourth chapter. It sure feels like he’s got just as much screen time or impact as if he died in Chapter 2-3. I love the guy, my absolute favorite in the series. And yet he’s in such a weird position where he lasted long, but not noticeable in the fandom.
Heck Game Grumps don’t know the guy, and you’d think Arin would love him since they both love toilet humor.
Fellow member of the fan one and certified Large Character Enjoyer (4 of my top 15 at this point are Sakura, Nekomaru, Gonta, and The Imposter). Nekomaru got my attention quite quickly when he told Hajime to say his name louder and prouder. He strikes me as one of the most humble and loyal members of the group, which is refreshing knowing how many mean and spiteful characters there are in SDR2.
Nekomaru also is the main catalyst for what little character development we get from Akane, another unapreciated character. I feel like, without him challenging her to do better, and his untimely death, Akane would have given in to dispair.
Finally, and this is the big one, Nekomaru had one of the top 3 most noble reasons to commit murder. If what Gundam said is true (I believe him, btw), Nekomaru and Gundam were in a death battle. This means they were both willing to be the victim and they were both willing to be the killer. The only reason Nekomaru would do this is the motive some believe Gundam have: to end the starvation. Nekomaru, just like Sakura and Kaito, wouldn't want to win the trial. That sacrifice is so heartwarming. That alone puts him in my top 15.
Okay, seeing myself in this video made me laugh. I love your thoughts about the imposter. Hearing more about him brings him up to at least the top 15 for me (I should make a tier list, lol). My favorite thing about Twogami is how he fits so well as Togami, even without knowing what happened to Togami. It would make sense to me that "he" gained weight from trauma. I've done the same thing. It makes perfect sense that "he" would be the leader. Togami already went through this game once and knew what "he's" doing. Of course, "he'd" be kind. Trauma can be humbling.
The imposter is so perfect that he didn't need to know everything, and I think that's really cool.
ETA: Can I make another request? I'd love to see your take on the okayness of Chiaki Nanami. Everyone loves her sooo much, but I too think she is overrated. Love to see your thoughts once again!

2 ) "obviously male" - if you're basing that on appearance alone, that is not always and indicator of someone's gender identity nor expression. Gender is a spectrum and clothing does not have a gender; in their case, just because they are using byakuya as a template, does not mean that they are the same gender as byakuya oh, that would be like saying a cosplayer has to be the same gender as whomever they are cause playing as.

The whole Gender unknown thing was completely misinterpreted by people and so his character development around that part was completely ignored.

No one is hurting anybody by using gender-neutral pronouns for a character unless that character works you say that they don't like bu survey/them pronouns

Is there any chance you will make a movie about Ruruka Ando one day? I know Fandom doesn't like her. In my opinion, a bit too much and very often what she did was exaggerated by fandom. And for me, she is the best character in the entire danganronpa series, and I'd love to hear your kind of analysis about her.
I may in the future! I haven't had the time to look into her too deeply and I'm only familiar with the despair half of the anime tbh. But I'll keep that in mind when I get around to watching it!

Having seen your real tierlist, I'm really curious about your reasoning for it. It's interesting, because you and I share a lot of opinions in some areas, while in others we feel completely differently
Im gonna go on a rent but please bear with me.
I think he could have gave Sonia some development, here's why, when everyone is following Byakuya to the timer, you can see Mahiru trying to convince Sonia to take the leader role and Sonia refusing, What if after Byakuya's death Sonia, as the ultimate princess, tried to take his role as a leader to make sure his sacrifice wasn't for nothing, but fail and fail again. This could have given her the development she need as a survivor and make hus death stick, because she could never be as brave as him, it would also give Nekomaru's sacrifice in ch3 mean something for her too, reminder: it's implied he knew Nagito was gonna get killed by Teruteru, and threw himself in his place, Byakuya KNEW he would die and did it anyway for his classmate even after he saw him reach for a deadly weapon!
Sonia could have been the Suichi to his Kaede, someone who remembers him through the whole game

You know I am part of a crossover rping server. Essentially any character from any franchise is allowed to be claimed and rped as in this server.
And this got me thinking, The Ultimate Imposter has a lot of potential in this server. I could maybe even have him impersonate non Danganronpa characters since its a crossover.

Speaking of the anime, I forgot that it developed the Impostor so much. That has to be its strongest merit, cause I loved every second they were on-screen. And it was through their introduction where they pretended to be Mitarai before Yukizome dragged them away that I learned that you can eat crisps with chopsticks to keep your fingers clean! And that lead me to eating with chopsticks far more frequently and I love doing that!
Also I am so utterly flattered that my comment was the first one to show up....
I wish I could use chopsticks half as well lol. But I do plan on refining the Nagito script eventually. My opinions are Very Mixed and I don't want to do him a disservice, even if I'm not very fond of him.

My biggest (and possibly most controversial) Danganronpa hot take is that the Ultimate Imposter would have become a fan-favourite character if it weren't for fatphobia/they'd been designed as a skinny character. The fandom's reaction to Rantaro showed that even a character who dies early on can become a fan fave, and they actually have a lot in common character-wise (introduced as plot important but then killed off first, only for their backstory to come back later on as a subplot, tries to prevent the killing game and dies because of it, generally more caring personality) - And yet Rantaro became a fave and meanwhile I have to SCRAPE AO3 to find any good Imposter content.

Btw, I think you meant "fugue state" at the end? If so, it's pronounced like "fyoogg" (vs "fwegg" you said, I think. Same root as "fugitive".) Randomly, I ended up being very minorly involved in events pertaining to one of the most cited modern cases of fugue (a friend and I helped in finding her after an episode). Kinda funny that Nagito has you in a fugue state and not literally the person with no identity lol.

I dislike the impostor, I think it was just a way for people to speculate, imagine why he’s here, if this is a prequel or a sequel and why he’s in that situation while didn’t expecting it (or maybe he did and he was playing dumb and was here for another reason).
He could’ve been the copy of any other character even someone we didn’t know yet so I think he was a marketing choice to make people interested in the game.
Even though you said there was clues I was very very careful about what he said, there’s nothing strange Togami would’ve not said.
On the other hand there are a couple of unsolved and meaningless lines about him having lived distrusting others and having a secret he was going to tell that made sense in both cases but more in case he was really Togami.
His impression of Togami is so perfect he doesn’t even copy him from before the school killing game but after it. (I’m referring to his attitude not his memories of course, because the impostor knows nothing after entering hope accademy)
That’s another issue I have with him it’s unbelievable we have literally nothing out of his character but it’s even more unbelievable that even though he knows nothing about the Togami who lived the Killing game he conveniently replicates all the traits he gained through the first game and says things never resolved that could’ve all come from the real Togami who knew everything. (In fact he’s never truly in shock or frightened but he’s by far the most calm in the group beside Chiaki who’s calm for obvious reasons)
That’s because who made the game line up all those coincidences and cheated by giving the impostor traits Togami had not before the killing game, that means he’s either a completely incompetent impostor (which we know he isn’t) with personal traits that emerged that are the exact same Togami developed unbeknownst to him or he had info on Togami it’s impossible he has. Either way a plot hole.
What are those traits?
Being disgusted with Monokuma’s game. A more good attitude to his teammates. He doesn’t want to sacrifice them for himself but rather guide them to victory in the best way he can. That includes a will to constantly keep an eye on as much people as he can. Also while having a very precise plan to always have witnesses and therefore preventing murderer (in the first game if you forgot he kept everyone working together in all of chapter 5 and 6, when he decide to be a leader, he gave precise good tasks while surveying as much as he could and even have people go in bathroom in pairs).
So the impostor lines about him being a leader and not letting anyone die is fully coherent with the Byakuya post chapter 4 because that’s exactly what he did after it. The only reason why the impostor’s leadership stood out more than Togami’s is not because there was any difference (they acted exactly the same) but because it was the beginning of the game and there wasn’t any other plausible leader except him to question him (while in the first game there was Kyoko and her strong combination with Makoto that guided the group for 4 trials while Togami was busy being a jerk).

He's not imitating Byakuya after the events of DR1, he's imitating Byakuya while also adding bits of his real personality (Which we see better in DR3 where he does the same as Ryota).
