I never wanted Afridi to retire so early from test cricket. His test batting average is much higher than his average in the shorter format and with his bowling style in the modern era, he could've racked up a tonne of wickets before hanging up his shoes to focus on ODIs, T20i and exhibition matches. His numbers during his early career are quite literally phenomenal and he was an asset for Pakistan with the bat, the ball and in the field. Some players just shine on the pitch, most who do only do so on the field but not Afridi. He is a superstar who shone off the field just as much as he did on it.

Afridi is not even close to mahi.mahi has won 4 icc tournaments in his international career and afridi has just won 1 in fact mahi has won more icc tournaments than whole pakistan combines tho 😂😂😂😂

Afridi actually had a mid-30's Test batting average (which is considerably higher than his very inconsistent ODI and T20 averages). Imran Khan actually publicly lobbied for him to play as much tests as possible as it would improve his batting in the other formats. Most people actually don't know this but after 2006 Afridi himself did not want to play tests and made himself unavailable, after he was made captain of all formats in 2010 he played one test and then effectively retired from the format and just kept playing odi's and t20's till 2016. It's a shame he didn't have the temperament and will to play tests in those last 10 years as well otherwise he may have been a much better player in all formats for those last 10 years.

It was a broad day light robbery when they gave sachin player of the match sachin took 3 wickts n 136 runs .. and debutant shahid afridi took 3 wickts and 152 runs .. .... it was sheer jealousy .. indian demi god faulter in the end couldnt win the match for india yet they gave player of the match on losing team player despite his lesser performance compare to shahid carnage😂 and 3 wickts and not to shahid is far more better fielder then sachin
Afridi innings was certainly great, but Sachin's 136 came mostly on a crumbling day 4 pitch where the ball was turning square & in a pressure chase, so I would say it was a more herculean effort, a little bit more deserving of player of the match award.

I remember this test match so well, it was the rise of Shoaib akhtar too... remember how it was such big news coz Pakistan were touring India after more then a decade I believe, me & my friends bunked school to watch this & kept saying tendulker, Srinath & kumble were a threat ...but turned to be a different story
I remembered that time Indian bowling was Average at those days including Australian best bowler used sledging to the batsmen to disturb his rhythm, but in this lineup srinath was the most aggressive but he Angered at fielders mostly not showing his anger to batsmen to disturb his rhythm...
To my surprise, he looked to be a much better test batsman than he was in the shorter formats, didn't we see how Sehwag and Warner went on to cash upon their natural ball smacking skills in test cricket? Guess Afridi became a victim of stereotypes too soon, he should have backed himself to keep playing test cricket like that and who knows, how we know Warner, Sehwag as two aggressive game changing openers, Afridi could have been another one
