I live in TX and the eclipse passed right over us. It was cloudy, but the clouds parted at just the right time and I got to see it. All the chickens went to roost and the sheep went silent. It was amazing.
Wish you had joined us and 100 other fiberglass egg campers in Texas for the eclipse. A rancher and Casita owner couple opened their ranch (for free) for the event. NASA even sent a representative to speak. It was all perfect. The light clouds parted for the totality and gave us a spectacular viewing. Like you, I fussed about getting images in 2017 and decided this time to just soak it in. There were a couple of pro astrophotographers in the group that captured it perfectly for all of us.
My favorite Bob Wills song is "You're from Texas." The song was also covered very well by Asleep at the Wheel. I'll always be a Texas girl. Thanks for the video, Slim!
I live in the path of totality in north Texas, in a very small town next to Cedar Creek Lake. I was so sad to see overcast skies that morning, but about 10 minutes before the Eclipse began, the clouds parted amazingly as if God had pulled the curtains back. It was so beautiful! We saw it in our backyard just absolutely transfixed. The beautiful planets on each side and the eclipse were perfectly centered between the open area of the pine trees, looking like a natural frame. My Samsung galaxy s23 took some awesome zoom photos. I couldn't believe how clear the corona was.
We sat on out back deck near Akron Ohio for the eclipse and it was for sure the coolest thing I have ever seen. It was life changing. A partial eclipse is NO comparison to a total eclipse. I could not understand why people traveled to O-H-I-O to see it, now I get it. It was amazing!
We were in Texas the weeks before the eclipse, but we drove to Indiana a few days before as my mom's house was right in the path. We had perfect skies! It was amazing!
Oh, Slim, i love your sense of humor. Looking forward to your decision. I happened to be in the hospital in April due to a car accident. I had 15 broken ribs and couldn't even get to a window. So knowing your drive for excellence, I'll just wait and see what you have for us. Thanks!
I was in the hospital too. I spent the whole month sick. I went from hospital to a rehab facility. I had the most beautiful view out my windows. I looked out over the bayfront of downtown Corpus Christi, TX. Palm trees and water and people running and biking down the bayfront. Even a marathon run one day. It was cloudy morning. But, just in the nick of time it cleared and I was able to see the sunny day turn to dark. It was something.
On April 8th my wife and I were on a cruise from LA down the west coast of Mexico. The captain stopped the ship out in the Pacific Ocean. We were west of Mazatlan. What a great view. It was one of the most thing provided by nature.
I also made expensive reservations in southern Texas and had to give them up. At least I was able to get my airfare refunded, which was a nice surprise. I made a last minute dash driving from my home in Georgia to southern Indiana. It was perfect! The sky was a blue as a robin’s egg.
Good morning Slim! A professional photographer gave some really good advice - don't live your experiences behind a lens, take time with your own eyes to see what nature has presented. Paraphrased but the concept is there. Cheers, Steve
You found one of my absolute favorite spots in Texas, Caprock Canyon. I live in eastern US but whenever I made a camping trip to the west, I always tried to work in a stop there. So incredibly quiet and beautiful and it's great hearing the bison lowing at night. As you discovered, bison are able to freely roam throughout the park, including the campgrounds. It also makes for a pleasant traffic jam when members of the herd make their way to their watering hole near the park headquarters! Thanks for reviving great memories and, as always, I'm looking forward to the rest of the adventure.
Drove from Nashville to a little town in northern Arkansas, was cloudy in the morning but they burned off nicely and got a great view, albeit in the parking lot of a Walmart. So fortunate to have gotten a second chance in 7 years to experience one in totality, there's nothing quite like it.
My friends flew to Mexico for the Eclipse. But they are from there. Here in Tennessee we saw nothing. Cloudy, overcast and raining. But they did let school out early that day...I watched it on TV. Thanks for sharing.
Looking forward to the next episode Slim. I did a cross country trip in 2017 for that eclipse. Had clear skies at Land Between the Lakes for the event. While everyone had cameras looking up, I had a GoPro on a 24 ft flagpole looking down onto my campsite. So cool seeing it go from light to pitch black and back to light again in a matter of minutes.
But 30% chance of no clouds! Here at my home in Sutton Quebec the skies were clear and the eclipse was amazing. Also because we stayed on our own property no crowds! I'm sure you would appreciate that I even had a cold Guinness to enjoy during the event. Cheers Slim 🍻
Here in PA it was cloudy! My solar glasses did not arrive on time & I was pissed, so I made a shoe box viewer! At the peak of it, It became so eerie, temp dropped over 20°, birds went silent, my hair got all static & crazy....then cloud cover! Luckily my neighbor sent me two pictures before the sun disappeared into heavy cloud cover! I was so bummed! Anyway, the excitement was grand, cancelled my Amazon order, my shoe box did work while the sun was out & got to see a partial eclipse! No total eclipse of the heart!❤
Hey Slim in case you don’t have an insight on this…just a heads up on shooting an eclipse with mirrorless cameras, there is such thing as sensor burn from using telephoto lenses while capturing an eclipse. Having a variable ND filter is super handy and can help bring more HDR to your imaging.
Hi Slim, don't know if You will see this but today 9-7-24 but I gave U a shout at the customs border in Calais, I'm out of Massachusetts and watch and enjoy Your videos keep them coming and safe travels.
Caprock canyon is my favorite of the 30 Texas state parks I have stayed at. I hope you didn't go to south tx for the eclipse. We were clouded over in Hondo. My nephew got an opening in Austin and saw it. In spite of not actually seeing it, it was still really neat.
I wish I'd known you were going to be down in TX for the eclipse, we camp host in Glen Rose (Oakdale Park) in the winter, we were still there and would have gotten you a free spot! We had a great view, skies clear all day.
I just knew you would share your eclipse adventure eventually! I was patiently waiting! We live by Lake Erie, in southern ontario, and it was incredible! Thanks Slim!
i went to Paris TX .Like they said it would , the mostly cloudy skies parted to the horizon and we all had a perfect view of the total eclipse . We were all of the Escapees RV club that rented out the Fairgrounds . It was all I hoped it would be .
Been in and out of the hospital,, and love catching latest updates you share. I learned so much from you than anyone, And interesting. One I need to find the one you did with the Small generators, and your input. My sister lives near Ashville NC. town after Towns got swallowed up. She was lucky, just go cell, lights heat back up. A place to get drinking Water.. Another is your input, very helpful, which was shared with others, to winterize the underbody of the truck or car.
Good morning, Slim, on a beautiful sunrise in northern Oklahoma! I didn’t get to see the eclipse, there was clouds. But I’m glad you got to see it. I enjoyed the Bob Wills museum tour, I’ll have to go visit. Thank you for a great video 🩷
You are a great story-teller Slim! And you were really smart to hold off on these Vids until the timing was right. As for the Eclipse, not sure if you got a good view yet but up in Enoshburg VT it was AMAZING! Cheers from NH!
I hope you were successful in your search for solar beauty. Ironically as things worked out, Good ole New Brunswick had absolutely perfect skies on April 8th. We beat the odds for sure..continued safe travels.
I was going to Arkansas for the eclipse and started a couple weeks before from California. In that two weeks I changed my plans several times to Texas then Missouri. As I was heading north going to Missouri the weather looked best at my original spot on the line. It was amazing. I settled on a nice spot near Mt Ida.
Hey Slim, our choice was Southern Missouri, had my daughter from WA, and daughter and SIL from FL join us, had clear skies and a fine time. Stayed at Fredrock Glampground , run by a favorite RUclipsr "Becoming Bev" and her daughter Misty.
Slim, we drove up from Massachusetts to Burlington, Vermont and the eclipse was phenomenal on Lake Champlain. We watched it from behind a campground right on the shore. It was a bucket list thing that was absolutely breathtaking and phenomenal and I will never forget it. You took some wonderful pictures of the night sky and I am looking forward to your next video to see what you have captured.
Where I live here in Ohio, I was right on the direct path for the eclipse. Officals were warning us about an influx of people to the area. Campgounds and farmers were renting primitive camping spaces for 2 nights for $250 . Even the county fairgrounds were cahearging $20 a car to come in and park for the day and watch. I drove around prior to the eclipse and didnt see much activity. The sky was clear and I sat on my patio with my eclipse glasses and watched the entire event. Even took some photos with my phone.
If I had known you were searching a location for the eclipse, I would have offered my long driveway. You could have camped and set up your cameras for the eclipse in the little town of Lago Vista on the north shore of Lake Travis...we had clear sky and a great setting for the eclipse.
To determine a destination, I used ARC GIS to determine the cloud cover and overlaid that map with national wildlife refuges and the path of totality in 2017. We ended up at Camas NWR in Idaho with 600 of our closest friends :-) . What I could not have anticipated was the traffic jam that went from there back to Salt Lake City! Bumper to Bumper the whole way! We made it to the annular and the last total eclipses at a more relaxed pace now that we are retired and in the van and there were no flights to catch!
Caprock State Park is on our list to visit. Did you get a chance to see Palo Duro State Park? It’s on the northern end of that canyon country. Always good to see where you’re adventuring. Already looking forward to seeing your next instalment. Take care.
Slim … Hate that you didn’t make it to my area of Texas … at the time … Leon County. It was my loss. Enjoying revisiting your travels and looking forward to cooler temperatures!!! Not Canada cold, but cooler!!! God bless you and yours from me and mine!!! Chuck Knight. ✝️🎣👨🌾🦌🙏
As I view your video, we are in a hotel in Woodstock, NB. Taking a little driving tour of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Beholding the beauty of the area. I knew you had moved to NB, but had never seen a reference to a city until this video. Just a coincidence, but I thought I would share.
Caprock Canyons State Park is beautiful! But the “herd” kinda limits your activities. If you are there to photograph bison it is great! But for hiking or mountain biking they can leave you out in the heat for longer than you want. Last time we went was for biking and hiking but the bison kept us away from those activities almost the entire time. Next time will be for photography mostly. As for the eclipse, was ok where we are (south of Lubbock, TX). No totality here but was co ok. Good video, as usual. Take care!
OMG! The Eclipse was beyond awesome! We had a total eclipse here in Northern Vermont. I am so glad that I got to see that. Edit , we had clear skys here! YAY !!
You look like a skinny Colonel Sanders. Sorry. I saw the eclipse from Salem. I love the hat clipped to the visor trick! I’m gonna do that with a straw woven placemat! Absolutely love your videos.
Thank you.... this was the missing piece of the 2024 travel puzzle. did Slim see the eclipse? question was the elephant in the room. Can't wait for part II :)
Well I had to have a biopsy under full knock out so I did not get to go. But if I had it would have been Land Between the Lakes at the north end in Kentucky. Would I have seen you there?
Good morning, Slim. Good morning, everyone.
Good Morning!
Morning 🎉
I live in TX and the eclipse passed right over us. It was cloudy, but the clouds parted at just the right time and I got to see it. All the chickens went to roost and the sheep went silent. It was amazing.
Yup, south Texas here. Thought sure I’d miss it.
Bob Wills is still The King❤
My favorite Bob Wills song is "You're from Texas." The song was also covered very well by Asleep at the Wheel. I'll always be a Texas girl. Thanks for the video, Slim!

I like that you take your time to edit then post the videos of your travels. no rush, just thoughtful enjoyment. Thank you.
You're getting more handsome by the year...😊 Inside and out
We were in Texas the weeks before the eclipse, but we drove to Indiana a few days before as my mom's house was right in the path. We had perfect skies! It was amazing!
We watched from my niece's driveway in Indiana. It turned out to be a perfect day. So glad our gamble paid off!
Oh, Slim, i love your sense of humor. Looking forward to your decision. I happened to be in the hospital in April due to a car accident. I had 15 broken ribs and couldn't even get to a window. So knowing your drive for excellence, I'll just wait and see what you have for us. Thanks!
So sorry you were hurt, but glad you are recovering. You may find part 2 particularly interesting!
Ouch! I hope you are all healed now, with no complications.
I was in the hospital too. I spent the whole month sick. I went from hospital to a rehab facility. I had the most beautiful view out my windows. I live on the east coast Pacific Ocean Australia. Every full moon rise it's cloudy, everytime in 5 years of this view. 😅❤
On April 8th my wife and I were on a cruise from LA down the west coast of Mexico. The captain stopped the ship out in the Pacific Ocean. We were west of Mazatlan. What a great view. It was one of the most thing provided by nature.

Morning Steve!
I enjoy all your videos, but think my favorites are your cabin series.

I drove from western PA to NE Ohio, it rained that morning, but was GLORIOUSLY clear, and I got 2x the totality time I had in St Louis in '17.
Always a joy to see your videos
Drove from Nashville to a little town in northern Arkansas, was cloudy in the morning but they burned off nicely and got a great view, albeit in the parking lot of a Walmart. So fortunate to have gotten a second chance in 7 years to experience one in totality, there's nothing quite like it.

Thanks for taking us along to Turkey. My daddy loved Bob Wills' music, and I wish I could have explored Turkey with him.
Love Bob Wills! Didn't get to see the Eclipse here in Minnesota. Thanks for the wake. up this morning!
Thanks Slim, I enjoy your videos and think you do a great job with your productions. Looking forward to the next part.

Good Morning Jason!
HEY! Goooooooood morning Slim and thumbs UP!!!
Good morning Richard!
Hi Slim, don't know if You will see this but today 9-7-24 but I gave U a shout at the customs border in Calais, I'm out of Massachusetts and watch and enjoy Your videos keep them coming and safe travels.
Yes, I was spending time in Maine today. Sorry I couldn't talk, you were heading the other way!
Wonderful content and suspense for part two!
Nice to see you are still at it.
Looking forward to watching the video
I live in the Toledo Ohio area. And i must say it was a beautiful day here during the eclipse. Sunny and bright
Caprock canyon is my favorite of the 30 Texas state parks I have stayed at. I hope you didn't go to south tx for the eclipse. We were clouded over in Hondo. My nephew got an opening in Austin and saw it. In spite of not actually seeing it, it was still really neat.

Fun video, Slim…looking forward to the eclipse!
Thanks for the great entertainment Slim! Better than paid cable.
Great video. I love Bob. Cannot wait for the next one.
Great video... Thanks for sharing
GM - you look amazing with that goatee. But then again, you're decent shorn too. LOL
Thanks for the info on what the post are used for in Cap Rock. Note to self.
Buenos días! Ya me estaba preguntando por si iba a ver otro capítulo de este viaje
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Mornin' Slim!
Good Morning Janelle!
Lucked out... ended up in Vermont and got some great photos of the totality.
You are a great story-teller Slim! And you were really smart to hold off on these Vids until the timing was right. As for the Eclipse, not sure if you got a good view yet but up in Enoshburg VT it was AMAZING! Cheers from NH!
Oh, I love a cliff hanger!
Love the hat.
I hope you were successful in your search for solar beauty. Ironically as things worked out, Good ole New Brunswick had absolutely perfect skies on April 8th. We beat the odds for sure..continued safe travels.
I absolutely love Caprock Canyon SP, in fact I like it more than Palo Duro Canyon.
Liked The History Of Your Travels To Texas Slim!

Here in TN it was cloudy, but a miracle occurred and it cleared just long enough for the eclipse to be visible.
Even though we weren't in the path of totality, we got a pretty good look in Atlanta!
We went to Rodgerville, NB.. and the eclipse was awesome.
Good morning love it have fun😊

in quebec... wow we had a beautiful eclipse
WOW - Can't wait to see those photos or video. Kinda like your goatee. Yeah, those bison were not considerate of our delicate sensibilities! LOL.
Where I live here in Ohio, I was right on the direct path for the eclipse. Officals were warning us about an influx of people to the area. Happy Friday Slim, Cabin is looking awesome!!
Sat in my backyard in my home province of New Brunswick. Not a cloud in the sky lol. It was great. Fredericton area so total eclipse.
At the last minute, I drove to Mt. Vernon, IL to see the eclipse. The weather was perfect. 🙂

We are just north of Little Rock, and the skies were perfect for the eclipse!
Damn a cliffhanger. Guess we’ll just have to wait for your next video. Thanks Slim for all you’re doing! Mike from Montreal.

I’m in central Indiana and we had clear skies and watched the eclipse in my backyard!

Hi slim from London England
Good Morning London!
I was in Maine for the eclipse and the sky was clear. I saw the whole thing, no problem.
Cool video. Would be a nice series if you spent all winter living at the cabin. Love the cabin vids

We had a great view of the total eclipse. We drove to Deer, Arkansas to see it. We had a great view.
Wow! That's Heavy annd Far Out brother....it's a Snap with Snapper!😎👍
I think the drive was worth it for the practice shots alone.
💛💛💛
Have you been to the Phillips Petroleum Company Museum in Bartlesville, OK? It's a really interesting museum.
Thank you.... this was the missing piece of the 2024 travel puzzle. did Slim see the eclipse? question was the elephant in the room. Can't wait for part II :)
Which shows how much experts know. Ohio viewing was fantastic. We are off to Iceland in 2026
Well I had to have a biopsy under full knock out so I did not get to go. But if I had it would have been Land Between the Lakes at the north end in Kentucky. Would I have seen you there?
Hi Slim, I Live On The East Coast Of Florida And We Have Not Seen Stars Since 2017, I Wonder Why?
Ironically Canada had some of the best viewing, while Texas had some of the worst. Slim you just can't win! 😂
There's another original gas station, it's a Sinclair Station located in Snyder, Texas it's a pretty cool station.
I went to see it is Mazatlan, Mexico
