    okay so like most of the people here, I've watched about 2-3 hours of videos on the KBO hurricane for my 4 mile commute to work. no hills in the Los Angeles area and also have a fitness bike I can get a workout with. Let me tell you this, power assist mode 1 or 2 or 3 is all super slow. Bike just doesn't feel balance or well made, this is speaking from a guy that commutes with a $600 trek Marlin 5 mountain bike and a $500 costco fat tire bike. I used to have the amazon Ancheer bike for $600 and that felt like it has more power, at 44 lbs. I later got a Rad City bike but mainly used it in power mode 1 that uses about 50 to 65 watts per hour and it felt like it has more power than mode 3 on the KBO Hurricane. I haven't tried the ride1up but if it has the same power as the KBO, I would recommend you go for something else. I was just looking for a commuter that doesn't make me sweat or sore after 2-4 miles. Honestly the TREK Marlin 5 felt faster than the KBO hurricane.
    Maybe i'll try the Rad Mission next or the Aventon Soltera.

    I just bought one and it should be shipped to my home in a few days. With the promo that's going on right now and they even give you a coupon I got the bike for a little under $870 and that came with a kickstand as well. Can't wait to try it out stay tuned....

    Was looking at both the Core-5 from Ride1IP and the KBO Hurricane and honestly, for $220 bucks more, the Core-5 might be better. It can hit speeds up to 28 MPH despite it being heavier and has a throttle with thicker wheels for a smoother ride. I plan to use it as a cruiser and love to be comfortable as possible and the Core-5 seems like it hits those marks better. The KBO Hurricane doesn't seem too bad, but the slow speed doesn't interest me too much. I cared more about the range, but based on your test, the true range seems about the same as the Core-5 as well.
    In the end, I think im going to go with the Core-5. It just seems like a better overall built bike and having a throttle can be really nice.

    can you change the gear ratio? I hear some say they wish it were higher.

    All i want is a 750w middrive fixie style ebike with a throttle is that really too much to ask? Is there a glaring reason why manufacturers aren't already doing this?

    • @ElectricBikeReport
      @ElectricBikeReport  3 года назад

      Sounds like you need to check out the mid-drive road bikes as that is what will bring you the closest to what you're asking for. Or be the first to go create that bike 🤔

      @@ElectricBikeReport at the moment all the fixie style frame ebikes are limited to 350wh and no throttle. And LMFAO on the second point 🤣

    Thanks for the review. Which would you pick for a commuter bike in St George. The Ride 1 up Roadster V2 or the KBO Hurricane?

    • @ytJnC
      @ytJnC 3 года назад +2

      I think it depends on your commute. The Hurricane has more range, at the expense of speed and power. Of note, the Roadster was able to do the hill climb test with the rider seated. And oddly enough the Roadster had shorter stopping averages, despite older v-brake technology.

    • @ElectricBikeReport
      @ElectricBikeReport  3 года назад +2

      We do love that you made it specific to St. George 🙂 As always, it's hard to just pick one. Personal preference plays a large part as there are subjective opinions people create while riding either bike.
      In terms of the tests we put them both through, the Roadster tested better in most areas. Hill climb, brakes, etc.
      The Hurricane has a lot going for it though. It's a little bit more comfortable on the geometry side since the Roadster is more aggressive. The Hurricane also has lights and fenders which a lot of riders like to see come standard.
      Either way, I'm not sure you're going wrong with either one.
      Side note - these are great for the trail system and running around Bluff, Blvd, Main, out towards Red Cliffs Mall, etc. Parkway or super hilly stuff like you'll find out towards Snow Canyon, not as great. You'll want something with a bit better hill climbing if you have riding there in mind. ✌️

    Have a Stealth Urban Electric Bike KBO Hurricane to me the bicycle rides like an 1990 non suspension mountain bike. My bicycle without the kick stand or fenders installed weighted 37.7 pounds, and it can be carried up and down the narrow stairway to my apartment. I must take the bicycle upstairs into my apartment or it would be missing the following morning with ten chains and u-locks. Monthly I ride 4 different road bicycles, and I immediately hated the flat bar offering a single hand and arm position, wish the hurricane was offered with drop bar configuration.
    I found a drop bar with narrow bar diameter that I was able to mount the MTB Brakes onto the hood position, keeping the Tripwire (Motor cutoff functioning). Can not find any road bike brake levers with a Tripwire to order but have ordered Tektro RL341 Ergo Brake Lever Set that is taking forever to arrive. Do not like the mtb bike brakes mounted on the hoods, but the drop bar with many different hand & arm positions has allowed me to easily ride 27 miles. With the drop bar change and a Carbon Fiber fork replacement this bicycle has become lighter, and more fun to ride.

    My only complaint with your reviews is not showing the actual # when charting the speeds in each PAS Level. Having a graph without seeing the actual speed is kind of useless. The speeds aren't significantly different, so just having a dot doesn't really show as much as say: 11.9, 15.4 & 19.3

      Thanks for the feedback! We try and state them during the video, and the written review includes a similar graph with points that have labels, but we'll see what we can do to make it more clear.

      The first two aren't really close style-wise from what you're looking at here with the Hurricane. The second two are a little closer, but not as good on the hills. All performed well or at least better-than-expected on our hill tests. Some are a bit more expensive than the Hurricane though.
      Two notes on hill climbing with e-bikes that are important to keep in mind:
      We feel these bikes performed well on our "Hell Hole" hill test which is about a 1/3 mile with a 12% grade, but experiences on a bike's hill-climbing ability vary widely. Rider weight, size of the hill, and more affect how well you take hills on an e-bike. It's also important to note, that in those tests our e-bikes sowed down to 4-8 MPH at the steepest point, so it depends on what you're looking for when you say a 'hill eater.'
      Also, we find that people sometimes expect more out of e-bikes than they can always do. If you really want a bike that will do ALL the work for you, that's a motorcycle. There are some e-bikes that can conquer hills amazingly well, but those are usually on higher-end ones that start at $3K and go up from there, and it's harder to find a hill dominator for KBO or Rad-level prices.
      Hope this info helps! All the best, brother ✌️

    You should have weighed the bike. It's actually over 38 lbs and not 36 lbs. Yes the range is way off maybe if you weighed 90 lbs it might be accurate. You didn't discuss sizing nor anything about charging the battery. Also what pedal assist level were you using when riding that hill; it wasn't clear. Could have been a better review.
