You should review and compare the Cube freeze dryer. It’s so different than these since the pump is internal with no oil. I’ve been looking for comparison videos on that before I buy.

Thanks for posting this video. I'll be purchasing the upgraded hose. I know my machine gets down to at least 130 mTorr. I have yet to see if it gets any lower than that. Shortly after purchasing the machine about three months ago, I swapped out the drain valve and added the no-suck anti-siphon drain hose kit. I'm thrilled to see competition; this will cause Harvest Right to continue improving with their own machine. I'd love to see a feature where I could control the settings remotely.

We have been researching these machines for months now. It's just my wife and I and we want one for traveling food storage and also emergency food storage. It seems that the HR machines are hit or miss with issues and also should be upgraded for what they charge. So far it's looking like we will be purchasing the stayfresh unit since we don't need a large machine.

Harvest right is horrible for support. With all of the repair costs, I am at over $400 for every batch of freeze drying that I have made. They even charge you a fee for the privilege of getting a part number to buy a replacement part. That's in addition to the part and shipping.

I would like to know what your feelings are on the stay fresh Fries drier now that’s some time has passed. Our harvest Wright has turns out to be nothing but a piece of junk. A $4500 piece of junk. With no fixes insight. Harvest Right was great for two years and then when we started having problems we get crickets a lot of talk but no action of things getting fixed. A lot of time spent waiting around for phone calls having to tear that thing apart ourselves trying to put it together watching videos, sending thumb drives to them. it’s been a total nightmare with Harvest Right would never recommend anybody buy anything from them. The only plus side with the size of the Harvest Right is they get more money out of you, you get screwed. In this case size definitely does not matter if it doesn’t work.

Donald, I have a small HR. My StayFresh holds almost double what my small HR holds. The medium tray dividers are way to small for my StayFresh trays. I got large and cut the width down about 1/4”. The length fit perfect.
StayFresh weighs 165 lbs, more than the small or medium, why?
You should have taken the sides off to see what’s used in the StayFresh. I have one of the original ones and it’s much easier to disassemble than my HR. All the parts can be easily replaced.
I have the standard pump and it pulls down fast.
Many people run a candy business with StayFresh. Multiple runs a day.
StayFresh offers a veteran/military discount of $150. Just call Tim.

I'm not following on what the purpose of the valve is on the pump hose, or when you're supposed to close it? I bought my HR used and it already had a valve on the pump line, but I've just been leaving it open since the HR comes with just a solid hose and no valve so there was obviously nothing in the manual about when/how to use the valve. I live in Alaska so we get warm ish in the summer and very cold in the winter. These pumps run hot so in the winter you might see that garage warm up a little bit and if anything run a small heater to try keeping it about 50 ish and you should be ok. The summer I crack my garage door so it doesn’t get to much hotter than the low 80s. I’m still a huge fan of StayFresh and haven’t had issues like we have seen with many StayFresh systems. Harvest Right customer service is pathetic at best. They have a horrible return shipping box kit when you have to send your FD back for warranty repair or as many have found out, after expiration of warranty repairs. Your 30 day satisfaction warranty begins the day THEY ship it to you. If it takes 10 days to arrive, you actually get a 20 satisfaction guarantee.
This video doesn't even compare details of WARRANTY offered by each company. And what about the fine print? HR has the customers do the trouble shooting and software update BS that they should have done before shipping the product you just paid 3 to 5 effing grand for.
Also no mention of where these machines are manufactured. USA or CHINA or otherwise? HR = effing CHINA.
Also, deeper trays in the HR will give you headaches with proper drying with some foods. I had the same thoughts wondering why the shallow trays but plenty of storage space between them. So I fabricated some deeper trays with some lightweight stainless steel plate. There is a reason the HR trays are shallow.
It would be interesting to see a comparison with the Blue Alpine.
