- Waterlogged roads, flooded subways, boats out to rescue elderly citizens - for the people of Chennai, December 4 evoked memories of the 2015 deluge. Like in 2015, this time too the rainfall has been described by authorities as ‘unprecedented’.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Perungudi in Chennai recorded the highest amount of rainfall at 45 cm over a 24 hour period between December 4 and 5. Avadi in Tiruvallur district recorded 28 cm of rainfall, while Tambaram in Chengalpattu received 24 cm, and Chembarambakkam in Kancheepuram saw 21 cm of rainfall. Chennai’s Nungambakkam, meanwhile, recorded 24 cm of rainfall while Meenambakkam received 19 cm between December 4 and 5.

@@user-xj7vy6rd8l Point taken. Nevertherless, the water is stagnant even long after the rain ceased. Same situation with the flood of 2015. Government had 8 years to fix the drainage system.

Why is the water not draining away? Is it because the urban development built in the lake basin with out installing drainage? In this day and age with bulldozers some may think it would be logical to send some bull dozers to open the drainage channel. But for all I know the locals wanted a lake.
Please some research before posting something...I belongs to this area and there is no lake available here and this area not nearby any water catchment area...

The government is poorly prepared for these kind of calamities. These instances are becoming more and more prevalent with global warming.
I think all over India this is an issue,. Maybe it's time to have a deeper policy on how the country handles each of these situations better than leaving each state to fend for itself, Not to mention the states being prepared for such instances too.
