A chord is named by its function and relationship to the preceding and following chords. So thanks for pointing out that music theory isn’t all about naming sounds, but rather, about understanding how sounds relate through harmony, melody and rhythm.
Fantastic lesson Marco as usual. Everything you play is so harmonious whether it is in Spanish music or in another style. Keep on giving us lessons of this quality and the world will be a better place to be. Thank you so much
I was playing around with A-maj to DmAdd9 but couldn't fret it, then decided to tune my A string up a half step and optionally with the low E tuned down to A. Very interesting possibilities from there.
I’m definitely in the Dsus2#5 camp. I think the context of the Dsus helps a lot and that’s just what I would use to explain it in a jam or something. Not that I’m any good at music theory though. It’s just how I was taught to name chords by an interesting Mandolin RUclipsr.
This is the perfect type of lesson for those of us who wish they knew more about theory, but we were just looking for the right 'entry point'. More of this please!!
Yes. I tried on my Guitar. It's really fine, awesome, wonderful and sweat. ThanQ. ThanQ very much and God bless you with many more such videos. Praise the Lord.
More would be Excellent! I always enjoy and learn from your lessons. Acoustic guitar has been my passion for over forty plus years and finger picking since 79. No utube living on the land it was always just me and my acoustic. Please excuse me for not commenting on many video lessons I have watched before. But Thankyou very much for all of your hard work you do making these lessons. You have the best acoustic finger picking lessons on utube. Best and Kindest Regards from Australia!
I love these breakdowns where there's something to practice and a music theory breakdown. It helps a lot considering I'm starting to try to come up with my own progressions and melodies!
the song "Starting Over" by Chris Stapleton makes great use of what has been talked about in this video. I'd highly reccomend listening to that song if you like this.
that is a real moving sound and feeling .. I am just now starting to explore that .. it is taking me a minuet to grasp but I think it will greatly help my playing. Thanks I have subscribed.!
I first saw these chords while learning the simplified version of kapsbergers toccata arpegiatta, it was a lot of fun learning that piece and wasn’t too difficult to improvise on.
Thank you for this lesson ! It `s very interesting to understand what`s behind this lovely sound. It really helps me to be creative. Please do more of this harmonic lessons
My absolute favourite one… love playing this tune ukulele and very much like to learn guitar version… and this lesson is so interesting… so much to learn from you Marco thanks a lot….🙏
Thank You Mark! I enjoyed this very much. I mostly just play notes that appeal to my mood, but honestly font know what they are named.. I'm lazy, but that is wrong. Time to slow down and pay attention lol! Love to see you do more... BEAUTIFUL melodies! - Mindi in Iowa =)
I actually accidently found this chord when trying to end a song, I was trying to play a Gm chord to end, but I had to transition so fast that I just played the Bb and g, since it sounded nice I use it now as a substitute for a regular iv minor chord, even in other keys besides D
Marco grazie tante per le tue lezioni. A me piacerebbe unnvideo in cui spieghi il tuo "thinking process" qquando crei una delle tue bellissime canzoni. Magari una live dove ne crei una dal vivo
....Your uknown chord is A# minor. If you put you finger on first E, first fret you get A# Major. Take away that finger and you'll get a half minor chord. Reason why is that F is the 5 note of A# as root, but you are bringing down half a step. But the Third is still major. A full on minor chord would truly have the 3rf and 5th note down half a step. Therefore, this is closer to A#.
Hello Marco, I am a blind guitar student. I see nothing. I love the lesson, but I’m wondering if you could explain some of the finger placements for the cords. It would be greatly appreciated. Long time subscriber, I love your channel. Peace and many blessings.
How to you get so familiar with the fretboard? I come up with melodic lines but I don’t know how to incorporate it with chord shapes so other notes can be played with it? Advice?
Marco, please - how many years of musical education should a person have had to understand this lesson. I am so confused by it. It’s like a crazy flowchart that leads to too many possibilities to ever ‘get’ it.
Excellent analysis and explanation of harmonic theory regarding this chord, however I will never endorse the use of the thumb in 'fingering'. It's bad technique, don't do it.

Well said Michael!
Agreed !
I've been obsessed with this melody since you did the original video.

This is one of my favorites in a long time I love so simple yet so much emotion can be added

High above the mucky-muck, castle made of clouds,
There sits Wonderboy, sitting oh so proudly.

I think it sounds like an e half diminished but functions like a rootless Gm6. The half
Diminished feel flows a lot more in gospel styles.
Fantastic…. Much Appreciated…. Yes! more is always beneficial… Thanks …

That beautiful chord you play after D major is Bb5/D. You can also play it xx036x
Love your music.... Keep inspiring us....
Great lesson!!!
Best ever information 💕
This also reminded me of intro to (Air Supply) Even The Nights Are Better

I'm just here the hear Marco say "chord"
this reminds me of FFVIII ost. Breezy.
More!!
Very beautiful
Led Zep 10 years gone vibe
Breezy, off of the final fantasy 8 soundtrack for anyone that wants to hear this chord in a nice calming song
Always solid 🔥🔥🔥
Take A# as your root note and you'll see that Gm and DM fit well.

On the way 1million sub Marco

This is beautiful. Let me pick up my acoustic guitar
Hello Marco...
Love from Nepal💙❤....
Want more! I studied a lot about chord progressions and would like to know more possibilities!
👍👍😁🍀Thank you!
Just Beautiful and sad
Dsus2(b6) I guess. The chord on the title.
*_I'd consider it augmented (D+)._*
4:42 “Ain’t nothing but a G thang”
Lovely

This chord reminds me of Tenacious D, for some reason.
it occurred a lot in old RPG ost somehow
Almost sounds like Mariah Carey's song "Missed you in Christmas"
How to you get so familiar with the fretboard? I come up with melodic lines but I don’t know how to incorporate it with chord shapes so other notes can be played with it? Advice?
G minor without G? Without root?

👍
I Just wanted the tutorial but now I don't see any
Isn't it like a 7th?
Great video, beautiful music, but I wish it was in English. 😂
Negative harmony. Gm6
But you still great though
