- 22 year-old phenom and Clement's favorite, Alexis Morrast is back for an evening of emotionally satisfying and age-defying jazz. She brings her new quartet (one of several groups she's leading), which includes Jame Austin Jr. on piano, Josh Tyson on bass, Anthony Nelson on sax, and Dan Green on drums back to Clem's for a fresh, exciting take on classics, current hits, and originals.
This Newark native began singing in church at the age of three, leading to her first solo in the adult choir at seven. Since that time Alexis has performed at the U.S. OPEN, Delta's, Central Jersey Jazz Festivals, Rutgers Garden Summer Solstice Jazz & Wine, South Jazz Kitchen and Warmdaddy's in Philly, the world renowned APOLLO THEATRE emerging as Two Time Amateur Night Winner and later returning as their Special Guest with an invite to perform during Harlem Week Festival. In February 2017 she was back on the APOLLO stage and named the Winner of the nationally televised FOXTV at the APOLLO hosted by Steve Harvey.
Alexis Morrast has performed on many stages: The U.S. OPENS, NJPAC with Christian McBride, Cynthia Erivo, and Dizzy's Coca-Cola Club with jazz legend Barry Harris. Her resounding tone has been heard on XM Real Jazz Radio, WBGO, The Kennedy Center, Barclay Center, Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis, abroad in Europe and Africa. She’s worked with greats like Dee Dee Bridgewater, Freddy Cole, Roberta Flack, and Macy Gray just to name a few.
She has been featured and interviewed in several articles from The Wall Street Journal, LA Times, Hot House Jazz and Forbes Magazine, to the front pages of international newspapers. “She played young Ella in the documentary Ella Fitzgerald Just One of Those Things which aired on Netflix. She also starred in the PBS docuseries “ The Gospel Train”. She is not only a two-time Amateur Night Winner at The Apollo, but she also Won "Showtime at the Apollo;" which aired on Fox. Not to be complacent Alexis continues to study her graft at the prestigious Berklee School of Music.
