After editing I realized I wasn't fighting over the hotel amenity credit; rather the incorrect charge of getting club access. Also if you’re a masochist and want to try out the Visa Luxury Hotels here are the links: www.visainfinitehotels.com www.visasignaturehotels.com If you don’t have Visa Infinite and want to lurk: www.visainfiniteluxuryhotels.ca
At the same time, it looked like that specific IC dropped the ball as well. We're going to need a comparison video using Mastercard's LH&R program to book the same IC. 😉
Eye opening. Thanks for the info. This is why I normally just book through the hotel website. In my experince, "second party" booking comes with problems regardless of the source.
100%! 3rd party bookings are great if they work; a nightmare if they don’t. The only issue with booking direct is you don’t have access to the benefits like $100 hotel amenity credit, free breakfast, and late checkout. Which can be great if you don’t already have status with that hotel. Thanks for listening Gordon!
Prbly for the best; not worth the headaches. Though after trying out all these different hotel booking methods; I wonder what Amex does to force the front desk to read out the benefits to you each and every single time. I thought this would be standard but it seems to mainly be exclusive to an FHR booking. Appreciate you being here Johnny!
I had a similar problem with my Delta Stays Credit in Philly. The Le Meridian charged me double and never got back to me, but Amex took care of it pronto. Glad to see the difference lol.
Intercontinental is somehow “stingy” in giving credits or maybe it is their way to “gamble” hoping that the customers wouldn’t notice!?? *Fun fact:* hotels in California starting July 1, 2024 “junk fees” (amenities fee) are prohibited! I happened to stay at one of the nice hotels in Beverly Hills and after checking out (didn’t bother looking at the receipt until I got home…) and I found out about these amenities fees which I wasn’t sure what these fees were all about as I thought Internet, and pool were included as part of the hotel rate!? Then I argued with the hotel about the new California law to prohibit these hidden (upfront fees!) The amount was roughly about $175 but still if I hadn’t checked my receipt?? imagine how many customers weren’t aware of this and didn’t even check on their receipts? I felt being cheated and surely I wouldn’t stay at that hotel again! 🤯 Check your rights people esp your hotel receipts after you check out! Saving your hard earned money is better than giving it to them for free! 👍🏼😃 Happy Holidays to all of you! 🎄🎅🎉😃
Well, my take aways are to never book over the phone and always review the bill before leaving the hotel. I am very happy with the numerous stays I made using the program. You always have to remind that you deserve the benefits as this program is not widespread. But done politely and in a manner where you inform (not talk down to the front desk clerk), I always get the benefits and even more: like an upgrade to the Gold Floor at the Fairmont Royal York or a room as big as my High School home room at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier...
Interesting. Is there just not a difference between Infinite and Signature? I'm just assuming Infinite = higher tier = higher expectation for service. Either way, that's why I don't bother with Concierge services and just book everything myself lol
So specifically I was referring to no difference in the hotel portals Signature Luxury Hotels or Infinite; seems to be the exact same credits. However! Recently me and my friends called all the luxury concierge services in a video, including the Visa Infinite, and before that we called other concierge services in the video before; which included the Visa Signature concierge. And personally when comparing them both I’ve found no differences. Buttttttt I’ve actually enjoyed using the Mastercard World Elite concierge service; leagues ahead of even the Amex Platinum concierge, I think it’s worth a shot if you’re willing to try it.
@@CalbyNg Ah yes thanks for the added clarification. I think it has to be said, VISA is the biggest card processor, so they aren't truly incentivized. MC does appear to at least put in some extra effort!
Oh no you’re right; the main issue came from the Intercontinental. However the expectation when booking through these luxury programs is for them to handle the issues for you. Like with another comment someone posted on this video, they said they were double charged and Amex took care of the problem for them.
Lesson learned here is that whatever benefits that were offered or advertised for with the credit card sometimes is a scam. Sometimes, you have to call and bug them to resolve some unnecessary issues.
I have no clue what they do to hotels to twist their arms behind their backs haha. They are the only one that has set standards that the front desk checks off.
Out of the times we’ve tried all the concierge services on this channel Mastercard seems to be the only ones that never put you on hold; which I found so interesting. Maybe time to make the switch haha
I would’ve guessed Visa would do better than this. If there’s one thing I despise, it is terrible customer service. Thanks for trying this so we don’t have to!
Possibly, but this is a premium service the Mastercard Luxury Hotel program can handle easily. They even gave me a gift when checking in from the Mastercard concierge. And I used a “free” card for that experience. At first I was gonna make a comparison video between the both of them (Visa and Mastercard) to keep it fair I used no annual fee cards, but it was so bad I decided to make them into separate videos. So just sad to see Visa hasn’t kept up to competition.
Ha! I’ve called both, Signature and Infinite, for a concierge comparison video and I’ve actually seen no differences between both services. And like Kevin said between both portals I haven’t found a difference. Actually I wanted to do a fair comparison between the Mastercard Luxury Hotels and Visa Signature Hotels since both have the option to do it with a $0 annual fee. But it was so bad I decided to separate the videos.

That was crazy. Thanks for the heads up + video!

Visa couldn’t even book the hotel, wow.
“Go online”
Type in Visa Signature Hotels . com and book it yourself! Haha
Great information and cool way of presenting it. I enjoyed it so thank you. Keep up this style of video.
Thanks bud! Your comment in the last video definitely gave me more confidence! Thanks again!
Dang, Intercontinental Atlanta dropped the ball.
Right! You would expect better service from a luxury hotel. Nope, always check the physical receipt!!
What a hassle! Thanks for this video! I will stick with Amex.
Prbly for the best; not worth the headaches. This is what it should be! The card processors should be in control; at least you would think. Thanks for sharing the data point JP!

Calby Calby the magic man 🪄✨🫰🙋♂️
Popped out from the bushes like an Ekster wallet haha
Interesting. Is there just not a difference between Infinite and Signature?
I'm just assuming Infinite = higher tier = higher expectation for service.

What’s the point of having a concierge 😭
Right!! At least Mastercard is pretty decent. Visa has been too big for too long haha
Great video. Shame it didn’t work out for you. Hope they see this and improve.
We can only hope! Thanks!!
Is it just me or is this a Hotel issue more than a Visa issue?

That is why I use amex 🤷
They seriously will fight tooth and nail for you.
Amex FHR remains king lol
I have no clue what they do to hotels to twist their arms behind their backs haha. They are the only one that has set standards that the front desk checks off.
Cat butt lol
Ha! Real VIP right here; funny you caught that 😹
Getting put on hold triggers me lol

Same with Rockstar games diff rep everytime
Ha! So true
I would’ve guessed Visa would do better than this. If there’s one thing I despise, it is terrible customer service. Thanks for trying this so we don’t have to!
It would somewhat ruined the travel experience
Horrible
Definitely did for me; hotel was pretty nice too 🥺
Maybe your expectations were too high. You were not using even a premium card so level set expectations next time. Even amex plat concierge sucks.
Possibly, but this is a premium service the Mastercard Luxury Hotel program can handle easily. They even gave me a gift when checking in from the Mastercard concierge. And I used a “free” card for that experience.

“At-lanta”
Haha
Your first mistake was you used a Visa Signature card, not a Visa Infinate card. Champagne wishes on a beer budget.
Benefits are still benefits no mater what card if it is included
