The _Doctor_ class in Yggdrasil was probably one that had passives that improved the effects of medicine (might increase the effect of potions, both on yourself and others). All crafting classes had such passives, and it would be reasonable for a _Doctor_ class to be intended to be used together with _Alchemist_ classes, allowing you to specialize in the healing/debuffing aspects of potions. Just my theory though.
It could even provide passive buffs to healing spells because knowledge of the human (or whatever) body meant you could be far more accurate with your magic than a generic "Make this body not injured!" command. Think of it like focusing the healing magic like a laser rather than a beam of sunlight. It concentrates the effect to heal whats broken far more effectively. So if, I dunno, lesser healing, restores 100 hp for 50 mana. A fully maxed out doctor class passive means that same spell heals 200 hp for 50 mana instead. It might be worth the tradeoff in character levels for a dedicated healer to take 5-15 levels in doctor to double heal spells/buffs versus spending those same levels in another class for more options.

That's honestly what I had in mind when I heard doctor. If Nuronist can't use resurrection spells, perhaps her 'Doctor' class allows her to keep them alive longer by doing little damage, but causing a lot of pain?
Basically, if you read up on torture, a torturer has to have acute knowledge of anatomy and physiology, for both prelonging the torture, as well as not killing someone witha single botched action.
Yeah, he's clearly a gentle soul who hasn't spent nearly enough time pondering torture lol Anatomical know-how has clear uses, such as finding weak spots in bodies. Medical expertise also teaches how far a body can go before catastrophic failure. It can prevent or cause infections, adding a whole new tool in your toolbox of pain. Knowing how to repair damage the natural way doesn't prevent the use of healing magic, but it can be used to maintain wounds longer or cause scarring. And, in a fantasy world like this it can provide this knowledge for any or all races. Add to that the psychological treatments alot of medical experts are trained in, and you see the big overlap between doctors and torturers. Still have doubts, read up on medieval medicine
My thoughts on giving her the doctor class is that it was more of a rp thing of making it so she had a knowledge of anatomy, where caused the most pain etc.
We all have our dark secrets. Maybe Neuronist thinks her monster form is more attractive than Albedo's and Shalltear's monster forms? Some people think Neuronist has an attractive humanoid like Albedo and Shalltear. Neuronist should write a book about torture.
I don't know about the LN, but in the Undead King Oh sidestory manga Neuronist does see herself as a rival for Ainz's affections and sheesh herself as even more beautiful than than Shalltear and Albedo.
Especially the Japanese scientists since during WW2 they did a lot of experiments on POWs. Human body was tested on various ways no other countries would dare.
Good job keeping up on the D&D parallels. It’s often said that the best torturers are doctors as they know exactly how the body works. By having her know how each balm and salve works and how to heal it lets her know exactly how to counteract bodily functions and make them suffer.
While it might have already been said, doctor could (in terms of game mechanics) could be used to conserve guild resources. While a spell would be instant and great for in combat, when you are thinking you are going to log off for a few days and your character has an injury or status effect, the doctor NPC could work on healing it over time, so it saves on magical resources of the guild and cuts back on overall spending. When it come to torture, the idea many have put forward is one I agree with. Having a vast knowledge of the body would allow them to prevent death and heal injuries over time, prolonging it all until they are told what they want to know. Combine that with slower healing, access to cleric like knowledge (Bishop and God Hand) the pain of the torture could be used as a form of worship to help fuel magic and offer understanding from their deity/belief system. It's a bit of a stretch, but an interesting idea none the less.
Think about how terrifying it would be to have her look after you, slowly healing you. The longer it takes to heal up before she starts torturing you again would add to the dread and panic. Also healing can also be a very painful process. Just my thoughts on her Doctors class.
I see some users have already commented on this but knowledge in anatomy will probably help her deal the most damage in the least lethal way, allowing for longer sessions. Then the person can be healed and go back to it. Also, the Painkiller name could be considered as Pain/Killer. Meaning death will come very very painfully. But, who knows. Some things are best when ambiguous.
You know how time consuming thatd be? Also he doesn't have the license for it so its very illegal. There is a very good Robot read one (tbh you really cant tell it's not human for the most part, it adds inflection in very specific ways that a robot really shouldn't be able to do)
Yeah, I considered her reference to a chorus as her basically creating a recording of screams and such to Ainz as a gift to hopefully impress him. Like "Ainz-sama, I wanted to give you the first copy of my new hit album 'please just let me die-ahhhhhh!' I hope it tickles your fancy".
Neuronist painkill can be a reference to her job. She kills pain in the victim's brain. That pain being the pain of not serving Nazarick. Either that, or her numbing the brain of her victim.
I think being a doctor would give some knowledge of biology, which is critical to a torturer, and would also allow her to heal her victims, but without just instantly removing their injuries, making each one last, potentially causing pain forever even after it’s stopped causing real harm to the body
kyouhukou's name really fits his character and appearance kyoufu-恐怖 meaning "fear" his appearance, being a cockroach, really is a symbol of "fear" and kou-公 which is derived from koushaku-公爵 translates to "prince" or "duke" just like his way of speaking and attitude, even his attire looks like he's royalty (^^*)
The reason they probably used doctor is because after you torture someone healing them slowly is much more painful then healing their wounds quickly causing the victim to mentally fear their torturer
My guess at the doctor class? Being a nonmagical healing class, they have proficiency in various tools that normal healing classes do not. Working with their hands and with tools, this makes the class a Dex-based class to a degree, when in normal cases, healers are rarely agile. In other words, Doctor is a class more akin to Rogue than Cleric. This allows Neuronist to have better utility, especially with objectives such as hiding information by locking them away in better hidden areas, as well as access to crafting. After all, a doctor may be expected to craft a mundane remedy or know the schematics to tools like needles and tweezers, with the capability of producing effective makeshift versions. That alone is great, because it means she can craft her own "faulty" medical tools, such as the spiked urethra swab. Furthermore, medical tools can be used in various ways. After all, scalpels, bone saws, and other such medical tools are extremely effective at torture- I mean, the collecting of secret information. Lastly, Doctors being handy with dexterity in itself can be creepy to most people. After all, imagine that hulking monster named Neuronist Painkill moving in contorted and odd mannerisms, and that should be creepy enough for you. Basically, imagine that blobfish dancing with the same grace and style as... Say, Shantae the half-genie. EDIT: My bad, forgot the most integral part. Being a doctor, she would also specialize in diagnosing targets to know accurately how much HP they have left. Very useful in bringing the target as close to death as possible without actually killing them.
Hey, gotta respect Neuronist though. Albedo is probably secretly some giant, hairy monster, and Shalltear has a leech-face. Neuronist is just keeping it real and not hiding anything.
My guess for doctor levels is you want to make sure they don't die. But strong relief via strong healing is counter productive. Make the pain slow and make the healing slow keeping the victim on the edge of death. Let their thanatophobia do the work and drive them to spill their secrets. Oh god im just re-reading this comment its so incredibly messed up. This series has crossed the moral event horizon long ago and its only recently i noticed.
I could see the doctor class being a supplemental class for healers in general. Sort of like how mare is both a druid and a forest mage. Forest mage suggesting his spells are focused on nature based direct damage spells. A doctor class could provide passive buffs to any heal and maybe buff spells that you might have. So as an example, lesser heal normally does 100 hp for 50 mana. If you max out doctor levels it now heals 200 hp for 50 mana. This would create a useful option for a dedicated healer player to maximize his or her ability to heal party members efficiently. It becomes a tradeoff. That dedicated healer gets fewer spell options for less utility because they spent 5-15 levels on the doctor class, but the spells they DO have are way better. Think of it like the healer version of that nazarick member who made demiurge, i forget his name offhand. He can dump out INSANE damage due to his hyper specialized build but has little flexibility overall. This person can heal INSANE amounts of damage, but thats all they can do with their class.
The "gods created by mortal imagination and belief" trope is one of my favorites. It's how Primals work in FF14's story and a common thing in japanese written fantasy in general.
... I can think of many ways that the doctor class could be applied to torture, one of which being for first aid during the torture, to ensure they don't die during but don't get instant relief like with magic, and if they accidentally go to far? They have healing spells to bring them back from the brink of death safely and near instantly, just to go back to the torture. A key part of torture is you don't want the victim to get used to it, so varying their healing would help with that
2:05 I just relised that doctor who is full of gap horror:manaquins, santa, snowmen(Christmas time as a whole),children w/ gas masks, garbage cans with whisks and plungers/(the dalak),dolls, ect
generally speaking a slower, more traditional method of healing could be to increase pain, and suffering. Where as i'd assume magic would cure someone quickly and effectively. Where as applying disinfectants to open wounds hurts a fuck ton, and simply the time it takes to heal breaks people. The slow healing process, the drawn out nature of a torture would imo make the prisoners confess much quicker.
Neuronist is possibly a mistranslation of 'neurotic' while painkill refers to how she kills painfully. I'd like to think that Neuronist is purposefully misspelled because it sounds cooler and more plausible than naming some one Neurotic.
Nice vid. Couple of things if you don’t mind me saying... First, I lived in Tokyo for a few years and they have stores that suffer from naming like that...there was a thrift store that was trying to name itself as savings, but called itself “worth less”. Some Japanese take cool words that should work, but don’t translate well. Second, I haven’t read the LN yet, but doctor sounds like the perfect choice. Who better to deal the most “damage” while doing the least HP damage than someone versed in biology and other sciences? Yeah, she could heal them up after (which is a very slow loss of the “damage” as well) just to continue on. She is brutal.
Yes Nabe design will sell like hell. But not for me ... Best girl in my opinion of Overlord is Lupusregina Beta. Get that and I'll be sure to buy as many, as my economy can support xD
Clearly in the value of the doctor class is in a thorough knowledge of anatomy which will only improve your ability to acquire special intelligence. What hurts or does not hurt what kills and how to fix it so you don't kill what you're trying to collect intelligence from. For example a twist on the combat medic concept use in certain games is the anatomist will conduct a combat attack I call autopsy on living Targets..... [SNIKT]
I got this recommended by youtube for me after watching the last episode. I think some forgot whonis neuronist and searched for her on youtube and that resulted in an increase of this vidoe's views so it got recommended to others
A slower method of healing would make sense in torture. Instant healing may let you inflict harm again immediately, but also going through a slower process would extend the pain. Plus, it could be general understanding of anatomy, and surgical skills.
i absolutely love u made a video about her! I really like her character... dont get me wrong i dont like her looks... im more on the albedo front... but i love her "setting" and place in nazarick! I mean she fits so well and this extra dark twist she gives... i really like it.
@Aninews it makes perfect sense that she has levels in doctor. A doctor has to know the complete anatomy of humans, and can invent chemicals to change natural processes. So imagine a torturer who knows what makes your body tick, knows where to cut to hurt the most, is a skilled poison brewer, and can make your suffering much much longer because of the healing skills.
I heard the reason that Neuronist places herself above Albedo and Shaltear is because she accepts herself. SPOILERS We know that Shaltear's natural form as a True Vampire is a lamprey person with glowing red eyes, and an enormous drill-shaped and possibly prehensile tongue. And according to the guy I heard this from, the species of demon Albedo is listed as is a giant gorilla-esque monstrosity in Dungeons and Dragons lore, so she's probably using some sort of glamour or shapeshifting spell too. Neuronist could also easily obtain some sort of attractive human semblance like them, but she wasn't programmed to even want to. She sees herself as beautiful because she accepts and loves herself and her body and she has no respect for Shaltear and Albedo, who are ashamed to show their true natures to Lord Ainz. Plus, she might even be incredibly hot by Brain Eater standards. Also, Nueronist might also find their true forms to be gross by brain eater standards too. TL:DR Neuronist Painkill thinks she's the most beautiful of Mononga's harem because she sees herself as the only one not ashamed to show Lord Ainz her true form.
Unless this creature takes the form of Lust or Sloth from "Fullmetal Alchemist", it won't come even close to a form that could rival Albedo's other-worldly beauty🌙
I would surmise the reason for her levels in doctor are exactly because it is slower and less efficient. Fully healing your victim gives them a brief moment of reprieve before you continue. But slowly healing them as you continue to destroy them has gotta be terrifying. At least that's the only thing I could come up with
6:00 considering how many lovecraft references even I can recognize I imagine that would be one hell of a video And for those who dont relise what I mean the entire baby gost scene in season 3 is one big reference to lovecraft from the baby goats themselves and the goats connections to the dark fertility goddess ains calls on named shub-niggurath (one of lovecraft's outer gods)
Yeah. Lovecraft is FREAKY s***. Till this day, I don't even know what the f*** The Dunwich Horror was about. & I kind of don't wanna know, mostly. Because when I'm coming down off an alcohol binge, I've freaked my self out before in a bit of those anxiety attacks, when I ponder all those Lovecraft monsters. & then I imagine a T-Rex roaring & I really "Freak Out", as the song goes. Haha. Humour.
i think the reason she has doctor is to prolong the healing of her captured prisoners, to think with her psi attacks the mental exhaustion paired with the slow recovery of the body will in case allow her to steer the subject towards a deal of getting the info from he or she and verifying it before either immediate execution or in case it was relatively low priority classified information that lead to higher classified information would lead to alleviating pain for a short term before the torture would resume or even the false hope of actually being set free especially since the probability of Neuronist PainKill incorporating psi attacks to manipulate her prisoner easily
I think that her doctor class is a good example of why slow is better, she CAN patch them up for more torture but why do it quickly with a magic spell when you can shove medicine up their asses or stitch them back together like a broken doll? If Neuronist uses poison to make them talk, why magically detoxify them when she can make horrible medicine to keep them going for a little more time? The grand healing spells are for extreme cases when the poor "special information provider" is basically expired at that point.
i think the reason she uses slow healing spells is the bonding. if tortures are long and slow and always followed with caring the victim back to health the act can ultimately cause twist bond between torturer and victim and trust . after all you torture for information , it called captive syndrome i'm not sure
I think the reason that the doctor class fits a torturer so much is that whenever she is torturing someone and then heals them with whichever methods she uses as a doctor they'll either think "finally its over" and then she'll ruin their hope which breaks them mentally, or they'll think "just finish it" which is a sign of giving up.
For someone who's job is torture knowledge of anatomy is very handy. Knowing just what parts of the nervous system effects what and which bones when broken cause the most pain is useful.
Or neuronist could be considered a word play with neurologist which would be someone who works on someone's brain. So her name would be literally be like the numbing or dulling of the mind
For someone like me who came here for for info on the world of Overlord. I did not expect myself to quickly scroll away from the video. Scary things from scary movies aren't for everyone man.
I have being playing a lot of octopath traveler and bravely default lately and because of pandemic I have also being rewatching videos here, anyway what I wanted to say is ,I think the doctor job could be more a kin to the apothecary kind, in that job ,yes you can heal partners but you can also cause debuffs or status like poison, confusion etc on the opponent , another difference is that in order to do it you use items like potions or antidotes to make them, which would also be something a torturer could use and would imply the use of various "objects" to make the enemy suffer
In the case of brave default you can actually break the game with that job by making poisons with healing items, so instead of using a potion to take 500 hp from the enemy ,you use an elixir and cause a 99,999 hp damage and also have a chance to poison them if they live that attack or make your party untouchable or that they all have regen and arise
Well using D&D mechanics as an idea. The Heal based skill is used as a means of medical knowledge. So you could use your knowledge of anatomy, biology, and bio-chemistry to evoke truly bone chilling torture methods. Maximizing the effective nature of the pain. As well as shorten the breathers between sessions.
To look at Paizo’s Pathfinder, you use the heal skill to both provide minor non-magical healing and aid or as a way to torture. The Doctor job could have a similar use
I have a theory about the doctor class. I think it's used for the understanding of the body as to not his something vital or for that matter how to cause the most pain without hitting the shock or blackout phase of a creature. In China to be a torture specialist u have to have been a doctor for a set amount of years. It's not for the healing aspect but for the knowledge of what is more effective to do.
With regards to clerics, in most settings their spells are prepared ahead of time every morning. So that's when any such communion with their god likely would take place.

Basically, if you read up on torture, a torturer has to have acute knowledge of anatomy and physiology, for both prelonging the torture, as well as not killing someone witha single botched action.
Yeah, he's clearly a gentle soul who hasn't spent nearly enough time pondering torture lol
Anatomical know-how has clear uses, such as finding weak spots in bodies.
I bet the monster form neuronist has looks like a cute girl for some ironic reason.
@@zeehero7280 if you think about it, she maybe have HOT Aunty-like human form. Swt
I don't know about the LN, but in the Undead King Oh sidestory manga Neuronist does see herself as a rival for Ainz's affections and sheesh herself as even more beautiful than than Shalltear and Albedo.
@@zeehero7280 Saya no Uta, just in reverse
A doctor would be a terrifying torturer as they would know the body quite well,
What bones you break, what it’s limitations are etc.
Just my thoughts on her Doctors class.
wheres my shalltear episode?
He's holding out on us to give us the blueballs
I see some users have already commented on this but knowledge in anatomy will probably help her deal the most damage in the least lethal way, allowing for longer sessions. Then the person can be healed and go back to it.
Also, the Painkiller name could be considered as Pain/Killer. Meaning death will come very very painfully.
But, who knows. Some things are best when ambiguous.
When will you do an audiobook of the light novels already, your voice is perfect for that.
You know how time consuming thatd be? Also he doesn't have the license for it so its very illegal. There is a very good Robot read one (tbh you really cant tell it's not human for the most part, it adds inflection in very specific ways that a robot really shouldn't be able to do)
Definitely buying best girl nabe merch
I don't buy merch, but I loved seeing it. She's kinda my favorite...

Haven’t even watched the video and I want the second part
one does not even need to know what the episode is about to know it's quality ;)
i like that you produce overlord content while i wait for the next capter of the light novel and for the next season of the anime.
thx for that
The "torturer helpers" sound like SCP-096 wearing kinky leather outfits.
kyouhukou's name really fits his character and appearance
kyoufu-恐怖 meaning "fear"
his appearance, being a cockroach, really is a symbol of "fear"
and kou-公 which is derived from koushaku-公爵 translates to "prince" or "duke" just like his way of speaking and attitude, even his attire looks like he's royalty
(^^*)
"We all know she's way better than Albedo" I'm gonna have to stop you right there chief.
Correct. There are only 2 or 3 women (in the entire "animeverse") that come close to Albedo's striking beauty🌙
Ulbert Alain Odle is Demiurge's creator. The demon goat guy with the World Disaster class and a love for evil (despite not being evil himself)
That's hot
I wish they could have shown more of the body of the guy she was tortureing it would have made it even more hotter

The "gods created by mortal imagination and belief" trope is one of my favorites. It's how Primals work in FF14's story and a common thing in japanese written fantasy in general.
That just confirms the fact that the supernatural as a whole is a giant tulpa.
A key part of torture is you don't want the victim to get used to it, so varying their healing would help with that
"We don't like to call it torture or interrogation, we call it a persuasive interview" - Most likely Demiurge

A slower method of healing would make sense in torture. Instant healing may let you inflict harm again immediately, but also going through a slower process would extend the pain. Plus, it could be general understanding of anatomy, and surgical skills.
love the series keep up the good work

I didn't see this coming and didn't know I wanted this. thanks, aninews. right once again :)
SPOILERS
We know that Shaltear's natural form as a True Vampire is a lamprey person with glowing red eyes, and an enormous drill-shaped and possibly prehensile tongue.
I hate you for adding the grudge scenes 😭😭 it’s 4am and I’m scared LOL
Haha. Humour.
I imagine her somehow being able to even make Ainz throw up.
My biggest question is how the hell Neuronist got past Yggdrasil's censorship in the first place..
Great video like always and love the merch, but was a little disappointed to find no mug for my girl Nabae.
Sounds like this guy visited Neuronist's lab.
i think the reason she has doctor is to prolong the healing of her captured prisoners, to think with her psi attacks the mental exhaustion paired with the slow recovery of the body will in case allow her to steer the subject towards a deal of getting the info from he or she and verifying it before either immediate execution or in case it was relatively low priority classified information that lead to higher classified information would lead to alleviating pain for a short term before the torture would resume or even the false hope of actually being set free especially since the probability of Neuronist PainKill incorporating psi attacks to manipulate her prisoner easily
With the knowledge of healing the body you also get the knowledge of how to break the body. You know exactly what can cause pain
i think the reason she uses slow healing spells is the bonding. if tortures are long and slow and always followed with caring the victim back to health the act can ultimately cause twist bond between torturer and victim and trust . after all you torture for information , it called captive syndrome i'm not sure
A doctor has detailed knowledge of anatomy. A torturer would find the extensive knowledge of physiology to inflict pain with little damage.
In Pathfinder and DnD, the Heal skill is used for torture. Understanding physiology and it's limits is useful for this task.
im just saying 3.2k likes same day on a channel with 135k subs in impressive .. Ani you are Killing it - Good Job my friend
You're too kind sir. Much appreciated :)
I gotta know who did Neuronist’s nails cause they’re on fleek
For someone who's job is torture knowledge of anatomy is very handy. Knowing just what parts of the nervous system effects what and which bones when broken cause the most pain is useful.
I think sertain hetromophs might be amune to traditional healing magic.
So haveing docter as a class in the game makes some since.
This was very interesting. Though i wish you had explained a bit about what she has actually done.
The Five Unforgivables is what I like to call them.
I love Overlord and the characters.
9:35
That’s the point the slower the healing the longer your in pain
To look at Paizo’s Pathfinder, you use the heal skill to both provide minor non-magical healing and aid or as a way to torture. The Doctor job could have a similar use
I have a theory about the doctor class.
I think it's used for the understanding of the body as to not his something vital or for that matter how to cause the most pain without hitting the shock or blackout phase of a creature.
In China to be a torture specialist u have to have been a doctor for a set amount of years.
It's not for the healing aspect but for the knowledge of what is more effective to do.
"i cant see the value.." easy. is part of the torture package.
With regards to clerics, in most settings their spells are prepared ahead of time every morning. So that's when any such communion with their god likely would take place.
