Cardiff fan here, great analysis. It’s not a relegation squad, there was clearly issues with the players and Bulut. I think rizza deserves the job after what he’s done. Unfortunately he won’t get the investment needed to really push for anything. Until the ownership changes were not going anywhere
another Cardiff fan here and this sums up the situation very well. Great young manager that has a quality squad with great youth players but a very stubborn board that have no idea how to run a football club
I went to a few preseason games and they looked good I did not expect us to start the way we did but happy with the way things are going now and I hope they give him the job.
Robertson reminds me of Tommy Doyle’s stint at Cardiff, after a few minutes on the pitch I could tell they were too good for us. Technically on another level on the ball and the way they read the game
It was disappointing to see nearly all football podcasters were putting CCFC in the relegation zone. I saw just 1 have us finish mid-table anonymity. One other point… Riza was already at Cardiff as attacking coach from the start of the season; not brought in as an interim manager. Good to see a change of heart and understand why CCFC fans were confident for this year… not because of Bulut, but because of the raise in standard of the squad… along with a few good U21’s coming through.
I’m a season ticket holder at Cardiff just stumbled upon this! All I can say is the football for the past 4 years has been boring and trudged that’s with multiple managers. Riza has come in and it’s like a breath of fresh air have so much fun watching the city now I’d be happy for a mid table spot I personally don’t think we’re quite out of a relegation scrap just yet but getting there.
Cardiff fan here. Good summary, lads. Bulut was woefully out of his depth, and refused to give promising players any game time. The difference, now he’s gone, is like night and day - football is fun again, and the results keep on coming.
I think a lot of is down to the old NME (New Manager Effect) where all players raise their game to impress the manager of course but we've had this before with manager like Warnock and McCarthy but the style of play was rather dire. This is the first time in awhile I can remember Cardiff playing creative attacking football and the main difference has come from midfield, for years we had the 2 holding midfielders who's sole job seemed to be to give the defence cover, pass backwards or lump it forwards, putting Robertson and Turnbull in has given us an injection of youth and energy as they want to go forward and set up creative attacks with shorter passes. The other is keeping faith in Colwill, I have never seen a player criticised as much as Rubin for not being good enough defensively when he is an attacking midfielder, I think it's due to his size, people assume he should be using it to barge players off the ball but he's a very skilful player who is now loaded with confidence as Riza has been giving him full games more or less, he could go on a run this season in scoring and assists, the other player I think a lot of people overlook is Ollie Tanner, one of those great old fashioned wingers who seems to come alive for the big games, he's another one who's had to fight hard to be included and Riza has shown a lot of faith in him and his performances are getting a lot more consistent. Basically Riza put his faith in young players who were never given much of a chance to shine as our board tend to go for conservative minded managers who get experienced players in who wont win you promotion but won't get you relegated, he chanced his arm because we were bottom and not scoring goals and it's paid off big time, I just hope he carries on down this road if he gets a longer contract as the danger is he could get complacent and start picking too many defensive minded players
Underlying numbers show a massive turn around under Riza, Bulut had a new manager bounce most of our points where at the beginning of his leadership the football was never great hardly any shots low XG under Riza 3rd most shots in the league
Roberston is a baller, so too rubin both absolute beasts at this level Robertson has actually already scored 2 for cardiff just one was in a cup game 😊
under bulut robinson was nearly out the door. colwill & tanner were not being picked. he should have gone in may. now the players look happy. turnball has turned from a joke of a signing to a very accmplished midfield player

It's a testimony to Riza and our turnaround that we beat Norwich without Alex Robertson.
Alex Robertson is ex Cardiff midfielder Gavin Rae's nephew

Great analysis here lads, got it spot on.
I enjoyed your take on us and for young men you speak knowledgenly about the game and Cardiff City.
Well done boys 👌
Cardiff have a quality squad. Just took a bit of time to get going... and a managerial change of course.

Cardiff season ticket older and can’t argue with anything you’ve said! Spot on lads 👍

For me Buluts football was awful. He set us up like sitting ducks sometimes.
