Thank you for finally doing this! At least one of the audio reviewer’s aren’t so stuck up that they are willing to hear what others have to offer. It was just yesterday I was watching another RUclipsr review the Definitive Technologies tower speaker and I’ve heard those in person. He gave those $5000 speakers rave review and even compared them to half a million Wilson’s, they were mediocre at best. this made me question everything he’s said in the past. This RUclipsr, that will remain unnamed, threw a fit at this opportunity and stuck his nose up high. Hopefully you have at least five videos from this trip! I want some reviews of before and after his upgrades and I know I can’t be the only one.
@@djparra41 Nothings worse when someone attributes something to someone then says “I’m not going to name names”. Your testimony is worthless when you hide behind “no names”.
This was very interesting, i'm looking forward to the blind hi-fi cable test. Btw, given he's a sound engineer, he will probably recognise the sound of his cables given he would be most familiar with that sound profile but, it will still be fun to watch.
Jay I have to give you credit. You're a man of your word and you have an open mind. So many audio files are narrow minded? You are a international reviewer from canada to korea to florida to texas. Hats off to you. Now we have to get you to High End Munich and AXPONA
Yes, it's not only audiophiles -- a lot of people are narrow-minded, unforgiving, and break their promises. How refreshing to see that Jay is not one of those people.
Danny’s videos have provided me with so much knowledge over the years that I absolutely will get one of his speakers one day. He’s a great figure to have in the audio world!
I was really fortunate to cross paths with Danny in the very early 2000's (he was a friend of a friend). Listening to his giant line sources (Alpha's ) in his living room was the first OMG audio moment I'd ever had (still very much my bar). As a broke college student, I didn't have the cash to purchase or the means to assemble a kit, but he still treated me like I did. Few days later he emails me offering me a demo pair of AV-1's (a now discontinued bookshelf) for an outright steal. I've gone through a lot of other speakers since then, but will never let go of those.
I’m on the edge of my seat. Can’t wait for the next video about your trip. Wonderful to see that you are open to exploring even though Danny’s call out was a bit dramatic.
Thanks Jay, I've ben waiting for this. It's a good insight to see behind the curtain of Danny's own videos. I greatly look forward to the next installments. Rock on !!
I am happy and excited to have a reviewer that is honest, and truly cares about the hobby, and the consumer; meet up with a product developer that is also so talented, sincere, and honorable. I assume you will have a chance to spend some time with "NEW RECORD DAY". Canada meets Texas!!!
Very cool that you did this. It’s been fun following the Jay/GR story. Looking forward to the rest of the GR videos, especially your impressions of that system in the background of all their videos.
I have had GR Encores and I sold them (regrettably) to Frederik who used some of the parts to make the speakers that Jay had reviews. I am probably going to build another kit sooner or later. Best speakers for the money.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Danny and had him test, create crossovers for my KEF 201 speakers. Very nice guy. He did let me listen to his system and it is very impressive. I live about 1.5 hrs from him, and cut out the shipping cost for the speakers to get them done. It was one of the first speaker improvement videos he did.
Jay, fantastic tour of GR Research. These tours you are engaging in can only increase your knowledge/perspective about the world of audio gear to another level. Which we as your follows benefit from your ventures. Cheers😊
I get Danny a bit better now. He was poking the bear to push the hobby to be better and grow beyond the usual expectations and talk for reviewers. To stretch outside their comfort zone, as you will. And as a manufacturer and modder, his passion shows that he is about what he speaks on.
Nice...Glad to see we can accept that while we have differences we can consider others opinions and their efforts The Ability to Agree to Disagree and remain considerate is commendable. And to say something is impossible is to be narrow minded.
I can't remember the last time I commented on a youtube video, but this was so much fun I had to chime in. Great job Jay and I echo the sentiment someone stated below...the video seemed far too short! Which is rare to experience anymore. Keep them coming please and thanks!
I sent Danny one of my hand built cabinets that I bought a few years back. I installed SB Acoustics drivers, and some off the shelf crossovers. Lets just say the sound wasn't up to par. Danny and Hobbs designed new crossovers for them. My wife and I picked up the cabinet and the new crossover components on our way back from our Colorado trip (then on to home in Hamilton, ON). Hobbs and Danny were very inviting, and gave us a tour of their facility. They were great! Nicest people you ever want to meet! As for my new crossover networks, they went together well and they sound incredible! Great video, Jay!
Jay your amazing! Didn’t think you would ever make it to GR Research in Texas! But prove me wrong you did! Great video! I’ll be looking forward to the follow up!!! Your the Man Jay, keeping your word and rolling with the figurative punches! Best wishes, keep up the great work!👍🙏🤗✌️👋
Traveling man. I am glad to see you out and about. These types of interviews/tours really allow us to see the inner working of companies we know and some we don’t know. Hopefully we will see more. Your trip to Korea was a true learning experience. Hopefully we will see some of those products hit the US/ Canadian markets.
There is something to said for upgrading components in your existing products. I put $600 worth of capacitors and resistors into the tube stage of my Schitt Freya +. It has at a much higher level of sound quality than the stock component. Labor of love, though! 😎
It's worth noting, it's not just smoothening the F.R., he encounters, details, and repairs gross negligence crossover design! To be fair, it's a real mixed bag out there ... many mainstream offerings are simply commodity type items, junk x-overs, advertised and sold as performance pieces. With many enthusiasts shipping him their loudspeakers for assessment, Danny's gaining exposure to a big piece of what's out there ... and we're all better for it. Good stuff Jay ... staying tuned
Jay! Kodus to you. A man that keeps his word and explore the hifi world. Korea and Texas, what a miss match, but maybe not audible. Great work from a multinationalcanadian 😀
Great content Jay. Really envious you got to go to GR. But can't wait for your other upcoming visits to share with us. One thing though I still can't get over seeing Ron in Dannies truck. I think EV when I think of Ron. :) :) :)
When you first started talking about going down to GR to meet up with Danny, I was thinking to myself that Danny is going to get you out on the track. I laughed then to see you going with him on the track in this teaser video!
GR is very divisive but you can clearly see they are passionate and know what they are doing. Even if you don't like them, you can see this is not a. business run out of someone's bedroom or closet.
I tend to support Danny's approach to speaker design. The speaker needs to be as flat in frequency response as possible, just like all of the other components in a high fidelity system. In this manner the music will sound in the truest fidelity possible within ANY room it is projected in. If the room has problems, you should deal with it in speaker placement, equalizers and tone controls. The speaker needs to be neutral. Most people will not have the luxury of building a room designed for audio. Many speaker manufacturers artificially increase bass and treble volume and actually suppress midrange because some of the public interprets this as "better" sound. Danny's crossover designs help correct this problem.
Very impressive Jay, you've kept your word. I look forward to further installments on this and for the most part, all your content. Continue to enjoy your journey & we'll continue to tag along, thank you!
Hey there. I thought I recognized you Jay. I looked back on your vids and sure enough it was your evaluation of the Willsenton R8 that got me to buy one and I love it! I love tips and tricks for better sound. What he has to say makes sense to me as I have been a armature "junior lol" speaker builder since the 70s. My biggest learning point from Danny is in the cross over components. ( do you agree? ). I will be looking forward to what you think of his set up and impression of his various speakers. But is his listening room better !!!!! Can ordinary living room reviewers actually hear the difference as he stated in the video...
An open mind is very important in life but especially so in this hobby.

look forward to the blind tests.
I have been there twice and somehow missed that mammoth Solar Array,
He is a smart guy and open minded. Like any great designer.
New line force! That’s what I’ve been waiting for ❤.
They look very tall though, wonder if an nx-otica sized version would be available.
If the line array is too short, you will end up with pretty severe comb filtering problems. The Line Force is about as short as you can go in a normal size listening room. I own a pair of Line Forces (amazing speakers, btw) and I can notice a difference in response between sitting and standing (more than most point source speakers). I have to say that I have some doubts regarding his approach of flatening the frequency response in order to be "true to the input". That might make some sense if you're designing your own speaker, but when tweaking someone else's design, shouldn't the goal be to try to stay true to the voicing of that speaker?
