  • The aikido throw KOTEGAESHI in TANTO DORI (also called TANKEN DORI), knife defense, against some different knife attacks.
It is very difficult, if at all possible, to learn a reliable defense against knife attacks - and there are many strong opinions on how it should or should not be done. This video shows techniques that are practiced in aikido as parts of its curriculum.
I do the disarming after the throw, when uke lies face down. It is by far the most common solution. Notice that my grip on the blade is without touching the edge.
This is a new edit of a 2007 video:

The quality is vastly improved in the edit, but still far below the level of contemporary videos. I did what I could.
    Uke was Fredrik Pattyranie.

@rhsweden, that risk comes with a knife attack whatever martial art is used. I state this clearly in the video description: "It is very difficult, if at all possible, to learn a reliable defense against knife attacks - and there are many strong opinions on how it should or should not be done."
