Yeah it seems that as time goes our perception of age changes. I live in a country where it used to be normal to marry at 16 and today noone marries until at least early 20s. I am 17 now and before I thought of 18 year olds as adults but seeing myself and my peers we're still just teens but are considered old enough to do mature things. Biologically speaking 22 is the age when the body matures.
Antonio Klaic It’s important to understand that this was common in many societies. In Europe, during the medieval era a person’s life expectancy was about 40 years old. You had about 1/3 of all children that were born, dying before they reached adolescence. So in that sense marriages at 16-17 were so important. Plus, women in particular grew up knowing that their purpose in life was to marry and have children. It was how life was. It’s shocking to us now, that this was the norm, because many of us don’t experience this upbringing anymore.

The dumb thing is when they age up characters who are so completely unrelated to the timeline, like Missandei. She's like 8 years old in the book. Hell, even if they aged her up she'd Still be a little kid. They even age up Tomen and Marcella in the middle of nowhere. There was never any sex for those characters in the books (nor Missandei) - they just wanted to insert some BS sex into the story. Good lord, they even cut Out sex with Tyrion (in Volantis). I liked Shae as a friend, but they got so invested in her as a romantic partner that they hideously fucked themselves. Not to mention the ton of sex they threw out when they got rid of Arys Oakheart and Arianne Martel. It's like the show had some horrible brain injury and is now trying to piece together its memories and identity from what bits of brain remain.
I was so surprised when reading the books that Robb and Jon are fourteen at the start. _Fourteen_ and Jon's off to the wall to join the Watch. And Robb would've been...what? sixteen? when leading an army against the Lannisters?
In fairness, child actors are notoriously hard to cast and work with, and Missandei spends a lot of time with Dany nude on top of that in both books and show, even if it's not sexual nudity. I'd hesitate to cast a child in that role even if you cut those scenes, just because she had such a major role that benefited a lot from the work of the actress they wound up going with.
Modern culture looks shocked to past culture. Nothing new…if people cant understand context and apreciate the work on his own merits without the modern bagage, better to just watch another show 🤷🏾♂️

Season 2 had more faults on its hands with changing characters such as Rob's wife and dropping out characters which impact others like Ramsy Bolton however it this changes might have occurred due to the lack of assurance on how long the show will run or how much time frame they have to squeeze how many characters.
