I definitely enjoy watching these videos. Reminds me of simpler time when we had utility tractors. Now we have big 9530 and 8730 John Deeres, 300-400 plus horse power boys.
I've done a fair piece of tractor work. Busting out stumps is rough. Long before it's out you'll try every single trick you know of and then some. *I LOVE Tractor work.*
just a side note you more likely already know, if you had left a good ten feet of tree on that stump you could have used it for leverage and pushed the tree around in a circle twisting the root ball off at the ground level rather than having to pull it out. the backhoe attachment is worth its weight in gold when doing a job like this one.
Good point ! My cousin latched onto a stump and flipped his tractor over backwards. Fortunately the stump caught the hood ornament and allowed just enough room to spare his life. He was pinned for hours and got several broke ribs though. Thanks for your comment !
I'm not sure what size tractor it would take to run over a tree like that - might take a bulldozer. Prior to having the little JD 4410 tractor, I would use a come-along, chains, shovel, axe and pick-axe to grub out and pull down a tree. Compared to the old way, having the tractors help makes tree removal a cake walk.
I know it makes a mess, but a pressure washer makes easy work of clearing way for the chainsaw. The tractor, that make it easy to dig a drain ditch. Doesnt hurt to pre soak the ground either, depending on the environment.
Looks like you did more work than the tractor. Thanks for posting. I've wanted to see this vid for a while and understand the limits of this series. I'm not sure how heavy of a tractor u need to push a tree over of that size.
Surprised you didn't add weight to the back but it looks like it went well. Love the 4410. I looked for a used one for a long time before setttling on a new 3032
I don't know why everyone is giving this guy a hard time. Do this, do that, hire someone on and on and on....you ever thought this is how he wants to do it? If he's like me he's got a tractor, some tools and that's it. Can't afford to hire anyone so do what you gotta do. I pushed over a large tree just last weekend to make room for deer food plot. I couldn't afford to pay anyone, didn't have time to waste waiting on help so I pushed it over stump and all and pushed it out of the way. We don't all have the luxuries of paying other people to do what we want done. He shared a video and for the most part it's been tips. But some have taken it up a notch and mocking him or giving him a hard time like teenagers. The guy obviously enjoyed what he was doing and he paid for the equipment. So what's the big deal? Good grief
when you.. have to cut the stump with a chainsaw, and it has mud and soil and heavy dust and stuff on it, its best to use a wirebrush to clean it. now it may not make a lot of sense at first, but the chain will get dull in like.. a handfull of secunds from sutch contamination. and this is not the huge problem. the bar has a groove in it for the chain to run in, and this contamination will damage it. as it will ride with the chain. now , to some degree it can be repaired, but in usually ends up with a dead bar. dead bars are unable to guide the chain so you can't cut with it, despite its not dull or anything. and if you do it like this, you won't have to use the axe to cut the roots.
I have a cutting edge on my 40 hp JD tractor. I dig around like this guy does and then the cutting edge is enough to cut through the roots and I use the trees height to push over. I don't know about this guy but I can't afford heavy machinery and a backhoe for my tractor is $10,000. So I use my tractor smart, and I don't use it very hard but I can get rid of any tree about this size...maybe a bit larger depending on location....I work slow and steady. If you know how to run equipment, jobs like this aren't hard. I think he did well w what he had. And if the chainsaw chain or bar got messed up it would be a whole lot cheaper than renting a large machine for the job.
G23 the point was, if he would simply clean the stuff before letting the poor chainsaw into it, then its a fast, and cheap solution without wearing out the bar and the chain.
to those that are bashing this guy and his lack of experience. maybe he is just a homeowner and not a full time equipment operator. I have been pushing iron for most of my life and can tell you that using a utility tractor to pull stumps is absolutley the wrong piece of equipment to use. Problem is maybe this is all this guy has. I can also tell you that the tractor he is using barely pushes 3000lbs. Not the perfect weight for moving trees. And last. there really is no graceful way to do what he is doing with a front end loader on such a small machine.
What kind of chain you use on that chainsaw? Carbide? Cause a regular chainsaw would get dull real fast cutting around all that dirt. I would have to use a garden hose to wash the dirt off the stump before cutting, on a regular chain.
I have a 4210 JD that I do not know how I got along with out. It is amazing for their size what they will do. As far as cutting in the dirt a bar and chain is a lot cheaper than a stump grinder or hiring some one with a big enough rig to pull it done it many times myself
I've knocked down similar sized trees and used the subsoiler to rip out the roots. At first I thought that's what you were going to do with it. Works like a charm especially if you put an edge on the front of the subsoiler from the tine and up about 6". Not arm chair quarter backing... just a thought if you knock down some more trees
I believe in my John Deere tractors, and all the implements I have for them, and wish I could say that about my chainsaws that I have. It sounds like you know how to use your equipment and that is good, and I'm glad that you are getting your money's worth out of that equipment.
Made me wince seeing the saw bar/chain cut into the dirt. None too gentle on the kit either. Bet you work for yourself as can't see anyone trusting you with their kit. My life!!
My x military 5 ton dump truck can pull trees out this size roots and all. One thing I noticed which NO ONE SHOULD DO is pull on a three point impliment. the FACTORY DRAW BAR IS THE ONLY PLACE ONE SHOULD HOOK TOO. Filpping a tractor kills to many people.
He got his job done w it. I have a 40 HP JD and I do stuff like this all the time w it. Had it 6 years and it's done just fine. You have to use what you got
WTF?! Take a ladder and place a chain in the top of the tree from the beginning. Tie the chain to the tractor and pull the bloody tree over. Saw off two stumps of wood from the tree, 6 feet each and tie them together and spread the legs. Take the chain and tie it to the root, lie the chain over det stumps and tie the chain to the tractor. Now you have all the force you need to pull that root out in one go. No digging, no chainsawing in the ground and no hassle... Yees!!!
Yes the birds will have to choose another location to build a nest - but you should taste the melons that I'm now growing on that spot. They are delicious !
You may be right that I am hard on equipment... but I did just have my tractor serviced at the John Deere dealer for $360.00... I'd like to have some digger teeth put on the bucket but that cost $500 :-O
Not going to name call or insult. With this comment it may just save someones life! NEVER EVER pull a object unless it is connected to the factory draw barQ Tractor rear rollovers are caused by: Hitching too high is one of the main causes of rollovers to the rear with farm tractors. Loads should only be hitched to the drawbar. If a load is hitched above the drawbar and power is applied, the tractor may revolve around the rear axle. It only takes about 1.5 seconds for a tractor to flip backwards, not enough time often for the operator to react, let alone escape. Case History: The victim was using a tractor to pull out small trees on a relative's farm. A chain was wrapped around the base of the tree, and the other end was hitched to the rear of the tractor. The hitch point was higher than the tractor's rear axle. When an attempt was made to pull out the tree, the tractor flipped over backward and crushed the victim.
Billy, Thanks for the common sense tip. I'm a city boy.....that is now retired in the country. I am removing hundreds of Russian olive trees from my property. At present I am using my truck and a heavy chain. I have been looking at tractors but I don't think I would have seen the danger had you not pointed it out. I won't forget it now! Thanks again. David,Scottville,Michigan.
David. Try using a spare wheel or truck tire. Place chain on tread, snacthblocks give more pulling power. Put a bag or bucket on chain for safety if it breaks. Utube can explain better than me.
Ingenuity, inspiration and perspiration. Congrats on getting it out.
Nice video! Thanks for letting me watch you work.
Ha ! My pleasure.... Thanks for watching ! :-)
Well done, i went and looked at a 2015 3038e yesterday and after this and a few other videos im convinced this is what i want

didn't mean to sound critical. the tractor did it's job w/o the weight. nice video.

well the tractor looks quite old against the tree. It's the saw and the manual work that did the job
G do
I no longer like trees and stumps. Nice removal.
Good video, but could of done with seeing some black smoke haha. Keep her lit!
Looks like Jim took the tree down judging by time and effort.

Caramba, que dificuldade para arrancar essa árvore, esse trator precisa de força.
you can always lock ur differential
Put a set of teeth or tooth bar on your bucket it works good on my Kubota to dig the roots good luck.
Talk about doing it all the hard way right from the start.
Compact tractors..just not enough mass for this stuff.

Una cosa es que lo sepa o lo haya descubierto pero otra diferente es la de que yo sea capaz de hacer algo semejante.
Wouldn't let him borrow my paid for equipment
I would not wish to be the one who would buy this tractor second hand, after the abuse it receives from it's present owner!
@@Eddie-ev9bv I see several of you generalizing about this, but no specifics. I didn't notice any tractor abuse - not sure what you are talking about.
Como a mi no me enseñaron a hacer lo mismo que ellos...

Poor chainsaw.
Yes, It was rescued from a pawn shop, abused to no end and has since gone on to that great chainsaw forest in the sky. :-(
Managed to get the job done... but are a guy that is rough on equipment. Just sayin..
Perhaps so.... Just trying to get 'er done.

you don't need tractor you have more enough tools
U need a bigger tractor

Abuse of equipment.. try using a lower gear.. Your technique was okay..
Why do you think the gear was too high?
you don't look after your equipment that well and abuse your tractor.
You may be right that I am hard on equipment... but I did just have my tractor serviced at the John Deere dealer for $360.00... I'd like to have some digger teeth put on the bucket but that cost $500 :-O
