    These unused Steam features can give you an insane download speed boost, and other cool things you may have never thought about!
    This is useful for a number of reasons, and while LAN parties an large events are where this type of "cache" works best, there are plenty of other useful features that justify, in my mind, setting up one of these for yourself!

    thumbnail is misleading.... MBps and Mbps are two different things. "In the same way, there are two units commonly used to measure internet speed: Mbps and MBps. That little b or capital B makes all the difference. Mbps means megabits per second, and MBps means megabytes per second. To convert MBps to Mbps, you just multiply by 8, so 1MBps equals 8Mbps."

    • @nepp-
      @nepp- 4 месяца назад +1

      exactly…actually the thumbnail made me laugh a little. it’s like saying 5,000¥ is better than $34. different numbers, but they mean the same value

    • @gufrie01
      @gufrie01 4 месяца назад

      At the same time the thumbnail isn't misleading... Because it shows 8 MB/s on one side and 800 Mb/s on the other, so its actually 10 times faster, as stated in the thumbnail, becuase 8 MB/s is the same to 80 Mb/s not to 800.
      But I do get where you are coming from, this is a common mistake amongst pc users in general, not understanding the difference there.

      @@gufrie01 8 MBps = 8000 Kbps. 803 Mbps = 803000 Kbps (so i was somewhat wrong in my initial comment, but its still misleading as youve still got to download your games initially - and unless your constantly uninstalling and reinstalling - it would just make more sence to take those drives put it into your main rig and just download once and never delete......)

      I will admit, I did this on purpose, that being said I even had a mispeak in the video where I had to correct myself and explain the difference between MB and Mb in on screen popups. That being said, my peak speeds normally on my network at 10MB and not 8MB, and my download transfer tops out at 100MB or 800Mb/s, which is, as noted, 10x the speed. And I am sympathetic to the idea of just downloading games once on a main drive and leaving it which makes sense for most gamers, but this ignores the other major points in the video which is auto updates, serving of multiple users and game streaming. That being said, thank you for watching and leaving a comment, I appreciate it!

    Great video bro, better quality than most tech channels.
    I set up a DNS cache on my pi and game streaming with Sunshine on my main rig and moonlight on the SteamDeck. That's the only way i use my deck at home.

    • @WestinEast
      @WestinEast  4 месяца назад +3

      Both of those are really good solutions, my only issue with anything other than steam's built in features is the issue of them being a lot more cumbersome to set up and allow running especially because I don't use them much. Apparently streaming using nvidias moonlight to the switch using moonlight nx is a really good experience but I just didn't wanna deal with the hassle. That being said, thank you so much for watching and thank you for your comment!

    Maybe I misunderstood but wouldn't adding more space to your PC avoid the need to archive games in the first place? Seems like a much easier solution to me.

    • @WestinEast
      @WestinEast  4 месяца назад

      Fair enough, but it would negate the auto updating features and the game streaming, however it would technically allow "infinite download speed" 😂. Thank you for watching!

    That intro is really misleading, your solution can only speed up downloads when you download something you already have downloaded on that network. It's only useful either if you reinstall often the same games, or if you want to play the same game on different device on your network. That's why it's useful in a LAN party but not for people that just want to download games faster like you video pretends...

    • @WestinEast
      @WestinEast  4 месяца назад

      Yeah, that is fair, but it is one of those things where you can download every game once and be done with it. LAN parties are great for these types of machine, but so is having multiple devices, or not wanting to install every game ever on your main PC that may be used for work, video editing etc. Also it was just an excuse to use my home server that was barely being used at the time and could have been replaced by a raspberry pi that costs like 1/5 the price. Thank you for watching!

      As someone who went through 5mb for years, 80mbit really isn't a lot for 2024. I'm happy for having 60mbit/s, but I still have to leave downloads overnight a lot.
