    I got this PS3 not too long ago and tried to refurbish it! I do not recommend the eraser mod! That being said, the PS3 in 2024 is an amazing experience and something that everyone, especially for those who haven't tried it before, should get behind!

    I would like to defend my use of the eraser mod. I understand that it is not good in the long term and could lead to bent pins etc. but after hours of trying this is the only thing that worked. I didn't just do this mod because I thought it would decrease temperatures, I did it because without the extra (yes, too much extra) mounting pressure I physically could not get the heat-sink to contact the CPU after my thermal paste application - there was a literal air gap. I promise I will undo this in the future, I am currently planning a part 2 with a much cooler upgrade and righting my wrongs. Thank you for all the views and support, and thank you to everyone just trying to let me know not to kill my PS3! I understand the risks, but I genuinely could not use my PS3 without it.

      The air gap isn't a big problem, you want to to cool the middle of the ihs not the corner. While the eraser mod applies insane amount of pressure which can cause the cpu die to literally crack.

    Don’t use an eraser on the PS3. There’s a video of a guy explaining why this is a bad mod that can destroy your cpu

    I have a backwards compatible launch model cecha01 60gb with a 40nm rsx gpu on the board. That’s the ultimate ps3

      You're right, I'm already thinking of a v.2 with a Frankenstein and water cooling. That would be awesome.

    • @ultimatespidybawlz2198
      @ultimatespidybawlz2198 6 месяцев назад +2

      Honestly once you get the rsx swapped you don’t really need to installing any cooling things to it. The cpu is built like a tank and is designed to run hot it’s the gpu that can’t handle the heat but with the smaller rsx it will run cooler and the fan can focus more on the cpu

    I picked up an A07 a few days ago that’s only had 3 and a half days powered on in its life. I plan to strip it, replace thermal pads and paste (still deciding if I’ll delid now or not. Would hate to damage the CELL so soon). Have read swapping the power supply and fan aren’t worth it as the gains are negligible, so will give those a miss. Will also give it a bigger hard drive.

    I would recommend only buying one of these if your willing to spend the money down the road getting a Frankenstein mod done to it in order to give it the same reliability of a slim model

    It aint really ultimate if it hasnt been performed Frankenstein surgery, a specific 1.5tb ssd installed, custom cooling solution and custom power supply too.

    You need to delid the cpu and gpu and apply thermal paste underneath the heat spreader as well

    i have a lightly used (55 days) japanese a01 and its amazing, but those models are prone to problems.

    the launch PS3s are best Gaming consoles of history (3Generations in 1) , but they need maintenance and extra care.
    you should Delid cpu and rsx ,use liquid metal on the die and thermal paste on heat spreader, it gives you best result. also changing thermal pads and create some hole on bottom of console case will cool down the console effectively. and that will be the Real Ultimate PS3 bro 😉

    A lot of the people with years of experience on the PS3 have all said that the rubber mod does more harm because the extra pressure eventually causes the CPU to crack

    great vid man! for such a small channel, the vid was great. however, i wouldnt recommend doing the eraser mod as youre putting extra pressure on the CPU itself, which is stuck to the motherboard by little solder balls. that extra pressure might even crack your processor. that idea was taken from some repairs that sony did that were done with a specially designed holder that applied the pressure on the motherboard. for eg: ruclips.net/video/xlwJo4w-BBY/видео.html

    • @WestinEast
      @WestinEast  6 месяцев назад +2

      I was honestly thinking this, the only problem is the whole mounting pressure. That being said, I think using some of those Honeywell ptm750 (or whatever) thermal pads people were going crazy for on the steam deck and laptops would be able to fill the gap in the mounting pressure without doing that. Thank you for your comment!

    Due to the reflection of the controller in the thumbnail, i thoughy you drilled holes in your PS3 for extra air for the fan. Yeah, don't to that if you planned to. Turns out it eventually makes things worse.

    2. it isn't the ultimate PS3!

    bro. DO NOT put ANYTHING behind the CPU your going to crack it. this is how alot of PS3's have failed. you can buy plastic pieces that fit in there that are replicas of the ones sony used. you are going to kill that console.
    This PS3 also wont last, it has the same defect as the xbox 360 that caused the RRoD. you need to replace the RSX chip with a 40NM. unless you do this your console is a ticking YLoD bomb that will fail eventually.
