I love the small detail of the text becoming more sloppy and loose as the purple eyed dragon begins to lose their mind. It's so small, but it really adds to the story.
May I just say that the 3D model at 2:43 is so stunningly beautiful. WOW. The details and symbolism is really well done. I love how the more distraught the purple IceWing becomes, the more scribbled and uncanny the lyrics and images become. I would love to know more about these characters and what happened. Seriously, you have a talent for showing and not telling!! 💖💖
I think this PMV is about conflicting feelings. I think Purple (POV character) can not reciprocate the romantic or otherwise feelings Blue has for them, but Blue means the world to them. Not as just a friend, exactly, but something stronger than that while not being romantic. But Blue sees their relationship as more romantic and keeps showing affection in that way and seeing their relationship that way, despite Purple seemingly making it apparent they cannot “love you” (Blue) back. Blue might not literally understand what Purple is talking about, or may not know how Purple feels, and it seems like Purple doesn’t know how to break it to them. I think that’s what the symbolism of the purple color mesh on the wall obstructing the pink and blue was meant to represent (the scene with the rainbow tears, which may be an explicit reference to the LGBT+ community, asexual maybe?). While Purple wants to be able to reciprocate these feelings and be what Blue wants (they still love Blue), what they individually want out of the relationship ends up hurting it, and by the end, we see throughout the PMV how that’s been hurting Purple internally. I think that’s why the ice statue is at the end, too. I think it’s Purple trying to memorialize the Blue they knew, before leaving it behind (as we see in the middle of the PMV), and potentially moving on. It’s a coping thing, maybe. Anywho, it’s crazy that any of this could be inferred in less than 5 minutes, let alone 4, so thank you for the awesome treat, animator :D

There were expectations for her to reciprocate Blue’s feelings, but despite being close, she couldn’t. Whether she’s gay (my guess, based on the pink on the wall) or aro, I hope she finds someone that makes her happy
this makes a lot of sense! i was struggling to interpret that scene myself, but you’re totally right about the happy expression feeling sort of relieved. especially with the scenes of violence and frustration surrounding it, it’s a reprieve from the pain purple has been feeling. it seems like purple felt obligated to return blue’s advances, and didn’t know why it was causing them so much pain, and they may have felt frustrated at themselves for being unable to return the feelings.
My take on it is that they are good friends but the purple dragon is gay and doesn't reciprocate feelings for the blue dragon and its taking a toll on them.
As an aroace person, I relate to this a lot, both the song and the pmv hit me in a way I wouldn’t have expected. I seems like the purple dragon doesn’t feel the same way the blue dragon does, but wants to. They want to feel the same way the blue dragon does, to reciprocate their feelings and live happily with them, since they appear so nice and kind and sweet.. but they can’t. They can’t feel those feeling back and deep down they known that but they indulge the blue dragon anyways, hoping the feelings will grow on them. But they never do. And as an aroace person who so badly didn’t want to believe I was aroace, that hits close to home. Even if that wasn’t your original goal/message, it’s just something I found. :] and if I was, then it’s nice to have a piece of media that shows how I, and probably many others, feel. Just helps to know your not alone
I absolutely love your take on this video. While for me, its the opposite, caring for someone who cannot reciprocate those feelings, its really nice knowing others take an approach on the meaning of this video in a similar way. Its a beautiful, beautiful song and one of my absolute favorites and the animatic portrayed it beautifully.
I don't really know why, but this awoke somewhat sad feeling of loneliness in me. I don't know whether you were going for that or not but overall it was hauntingly beautiful
I just discovered this and... I'm impressed! I got to the midpoint of the video went "Huh this was a neat video. The theme love issues were beautiful, but on with my life now" Then realized the vid wasn't actually over and the dark turn was... chilling. The 3D model at 2:41 was BRILLIANT. Its that kind of phycological horror you get when you abruptly change art styles, and the vines, the flower, the bleedish cuts... It was POWERFUL. Edit: On rewatch I only just realized just how expressive the characters are! Truly stunning!

The first time I watched this, I was taken aback by the artwork, but as I listened and watched the video, I realised how close to home this song and PMV hit to me. I haven't watched a video that stirs up such a buried, hidden (feeling? emotion?) in me ever before, and i admire your talent at art and storytelling.
As a straight person, I still relate to this song, but more in the perspective I'm being sung to, than singing for. Throughout my years, I feel like I keep falling for the right person, yet I'm the wrong one. They can't fall for me. Maybe they're Aro, Homo or something. Eventually I just don't bother with trying if I feel this way. We stay friends and I'm so glad we do, I'm so happy and proud they understand and are comfortable with themselves. It hurts nonetheless, but it's lessened by the fact that they're so happy. So I try to support when I can, even tho I feel like I can do so little. Whatever the case, PLEASE be yourself. You know, I have a friend that might feel similarly... I'm closer to the aro end myself, though honestly I don't even know these days. Feelings are weird. God, this PMV was so cool, I immediately adored both of the characters, and the care that's been put into it is stunning! Plus how utterly rad it is to see the weirdly rare appearance of a well handled love story where one character straight up can't reciprocate in the expected way (Or at all), and to have that all in 4:00 minutes is masterful! And then 2:41 came along, and I fell in love.
It's good to see all these comments of people talking about psychological problems and how this song and animation helps them express their feelings when they physically cannot return the feelings of affection they're getting from a potential partner. These thoughts and feelings are valid and I'm glad people can express themselves as such. Personally, though, I see this and see another take, particularly in both the language used and the characters in particular. I wish to share all this with whoever is interested enough to read it. Purple and Blue here are Icewings from Wings of Fire, if I'm not mistaken. As a fan of those books, I do know what that likely means. The Icewing society functions with a heavy emphasis on their Hierarchy. Purple is likely from what they call "The first Circle", meaning they are the child of a noble family, possibly related to their royalty. As such, they have restrictions on who they're allowed to be with, both as friends, and as mates. Blue is likely the one they want. The one they care about, and Blue knows it and returns those feelings in kind. This is where the "can't" comes in; Purple is not allowed to feel love for Blue. They're not allowed show any affection towards Blue, and to do so will likely not only cost Purple themselves their place in said hierarchy, but their parents and siblings would suffer from their choices. My point is, from lines like "those bright blue eyes can only meet mine, across a room filled with people less important than you", and "When you _know_ I can't love you." Mixed with the affectionate, happy-sad tone of how they describe the private cuddles and shows of affection, I interpret this as a story of two dragons who, because of a life neither of them chose, cannot be together, and how it's tearing Purple up inside that they cannot be with the one they love, to the point of near-self abuse over how maybe, just maybe it's their fault for even loving Blue in the first place. That's my piece. Some parts of it comes from my own experiences, anxieties, and fears, and how my own filters take it. It's still good, and the best part of such media is that it can be taken in many different ways.
Oh my gosh wow! That was amazing. I don’t really know what was going on, but Purple doesn’t reciprocate Blue’s feelings. Maybe because they’re gay or aro? (Assuming because of the rainbow tattoo at one point.) Some really interesting imagery near the end, with Purple being beaten and bloodied and presumably feeling helpless. I’m wondering if that was part of the actual story or if it was more symbolism. Seemed like a nightmare. It's very obvious that this animatic is about how much it can effect both sides of the relationship when one of them doesn't love the other. This goes along with the factor that every time the song says "Love" the dragon is hurt in someway, which is true. This love that they are receiving from one side hurts them. With the realization that they can't love back, they can't give this dragon what they are hoping they have for them. But the constant fear of what comes out of telling them about this always comes into mind whenever they consider doing so.. The heartbreak that comes with something like that, the supposed love of your life telling you that they can't love you back. So they continue, pushing through this constant reminder that this affection they are receiving they can't truly feel. They can't truly give back, yet the dragon believes that this is better then telling them. That putting themselves through this constant mental torture and pressure is okay in the light of not putting someone else through it. This animatic really captures this, whether or not this is portraying someone who's aroace, or simply doesn't love them romantically , I think its a great way to portray this in animation. I truly want to hear what happened with these two, how it ended. Or if I'm just not perceiving the ending in the animation lol

Your storytelling with expression and pose is so, so wonderful here, and you've created something relatable to people in many different ways, based on the comments I peeked through. From where I'm sitting it reads as either a reference to Purple being aro (which is my fave because it's so rare to see and fits the lyrics just *chefs kiss*) or as Purple being gay and Blue being the opposite gender. Even after 1 year, I keep coming back to this incredible video from time to time, partly because I think I can identify a little with both the blue-eyed and purple-eyed Dragon, and also because of all the incredible emotions that this video brings to light. It's a true work of art, even if I'm not a big fan of the gore/blood that appears towards the end, I can understand that it's part of the creative process, and I can only congratulate the author for managing to create such a strong and touching animation with Dragons, in addition to the really heartfelt expressions that each character demonstrates. Big fan of the incredible content you create and finally found the courage to express my impressions of the video, after coming back here so many times.
I somewhat relate to this song in terms of my general friendships, I love my friends so much, I but I fail to show it and to help them when it counts, and as I lose my touch I can’t help but hate myself. This song made me cry, not because of the relationship meaning of it, but because it’s so hard to show how much I care for my friends.
This is just gorgeous, honestly going into it I didnt expect a lot because to me, it looked like some Wings of Fire shit and that always tends to look the same, but this was very different. You did an excellent job at establishing the characters, and I really did feel for them, too. The sudden change in tone closer towards the end, with the more violent expressions surprised me, and it was effective in both keeping the content fresh but also bringing it out on more of a personal level. You did a great job, and youre an extremely talented artist
This is my least favorite track in My Head is an Animal. But I cannot deny the amazing storytelling each track holds and the fact seeing one of them animated truly made my day. Keep up the good work.

I really enjoyed this video! It reminds me so much of who I was in high school and how things are supposed to be. All of those thoughtful hours at Barnes & Noble studying or just chilling with relaxing, thoughtful vibes about dragons and indie/alt music. That is what life is supposed to be in my opinion. We had the Legend of Spyro and Pokemon when I first started doing that. It's amazing to see the WoF fans running the same exact type of operation as well! =)

this makes a lot of sense! i was struggling to interpret that scene myself, but you’re totally right about the happy expression feeling sort of relieved. especially with the scenes of violence and frustration surrounding it, it’s a reprieve from the pain purple has been feeling. it seems like purple felt obligated to return blue’s advances, and didn’t know why it was causing them so much pain, and they may have felt frustrated at themselves for being unable to return the feelings.

My take on it is that they are good friends but the purple dragon is gay and doesn't reciprocate feelings for the blue dragon and its taking a toll on them.

As an aroace person, I relate to this a lot, both the song and the pmv hit me in a way I wouldn’t have expected.
I seems like the purple dragon doesn’t feel the same way the blue dragon does, but wants to. They want to feel the same way the blue dragon does, to reciprocate their feelings and live happily with them, since they appear so nice and kind and sweet.. but they can’t. They can’t feel those feeling back and deep down they known that but they indulge the blue dragon anyways, hoping the feelings will grow on them. But they never do. And as an aroace person who so badly didn’t want to believe I was aroace, that hits close to home.
Even if that wasn’t your original goal/message, it’s just something I found. :] and if I was, then it’s nice to have a piece of media that shows how I, and probably many others, feel. Just helps to know your not alone
I absolutely love your take on this video. While for me, its the opposite, caring for someone who cannot reciprocate those feelings, its really nice knowing others take an approach on the meaning of this video in a similar way. Its a beautiful, beautiful song and one of my absolute favorites and the animatic portrayed it beautifully.

The first time I watched this, I was taken aback by the artwork, but as I listened and watched the video, I realised how close to home this song and PMV hit to me. I haven't watched a video that stirs up such a buried, hidden (feeling? emotion?) in me ever before, and i admire your talent at art and storytelling.
Being a person who has been on both sides, this is incredibly well animated and portrayed, also is a very difficult subject to talk about
As a straight person, I still relate to this song, but more in the perspective I'm being sung to, than singing for.
Throughout my years, I feel like I keep falling for the right person, yet I'm the wrong one. They can't fall for me. Maybe they're Aro, Homo or something. I love how the writing slowly becomes less neat and more manic as the dragon realizes they want to love, but cannot, no matter how much they want to
God, this PMV was so cool, I immediately adored both of the characters, and the care that's been put into it is stunning! Plus how utterly rad it is to see the weirdly rare appearance of a well handled love story where one character straight up can't reciprocate in the expected way (Or at all), and to have that all in 4:00 minutes is masterful!
And then 2:41 came along, and I fell in love.
It's good to see all these comments of people talking about psychological problems and how this song and animation helps them express their feelings when they physically cannot return the feelings of affection they're getting from a potential partner. These thoughts and feelings are valid and I'm glad people can express themselves as such.
Personally, though, I see this and see another take, particularly in both the language used and the characters in particular. I wish to share all this with whoever is interested enough to read it.
Purple and Blue here are Icewings from Wings of Fire, if I'm not mistaken. As a fan of those books, I do know what that likely means. The Icewing society functions with a heavy emphasis on their Hierarchy. Purple is likely from what they call "The first Circle", meaning they are the child of a noble family, possibly related to their royalty. As such, they have restrictions on who they're allowed to be with, both as friends, and as mates. Blue is likely the one they want. The one they care about, and Blue knows it and returns those feelings in kind. This is where the "can't" comes in; Purple is not allowed to feel love for Blue. They're not allowed show any affection towards Blue, and to do so will likely not only cost Purple themselves their place in said hierarchy, but their parents and siblings would suffer from their choices.
My point is, from lines like "those bright blue eyes can only meet mine, across a room filled with people less important than you", and "When you _know_ I can't love you." Mixed with the affectionate, happy-sad tone of how they describe the private cuddles and shows of affection, I interpret this as a story of two dragons who, because of a life neither of them chose, cannot be together, and how it's tearing Purple up inside that they cannot be with the one they love, to the point of near-self abuse over how maybe, just maybe it's their fault for even loving Blue in the first place.
That's my piece. Some parts of it comes from my own experiences, anxieties, and fears, and how my own filters take it. It's still good, and the best part of such media is that it can be taken in many different ways.
Oh my gosh wow! That was amazing. I don’t really know what was going on, but Purple doesn’t reciprocate Blue’s feelings. Maybe because they’re gay or aro? (Assuming because of the rainbow tattoo at one point.)
Some really interesting imagery near the end, with Purple being beaten and bloodied and presumably feeling helpless. I’m wondering if that was part of the actual story or if it was more symbolism. Seemed like a nightmare.
The ice statue presumably being Blue was a really nice touch, shows how Purple really wanted to love them but just couldn’t.

It's very obvious that this animatic is about how much it can effect both sides of the relationship when one of them doesn't love the other.
This goes along with the factor that every time the song says "Love" the dragon is hurt in someway, which is true. This love that they are receiving from one side hurts them. With the realization that they can't love back, they can't give this dragon what they are hoping they have for them.
But the constant fear of what comes out of telling them about this always comes into mind whenever they consider doing so.. The heartbreak that comes with something like that, the supposed love of your life telling you that they can't love you back.
So they continue, pushing through this constant reminder that this affection they are receiving they can't truly feel. They can't truly give back, yet the dragon believes that this is better then telling them.
That putting themselves through this constant mental torture and pressure is okay in the light of not putting someone else through it.
This animatic really captures this, whether or not this is portraying someone who's aroace, or simply doesn't love them romantically , I think its a great way to portray this in animation.
I truly want to hear what happened with these two, how it ended. Or if I'm just not perceiving the ending in the animation lol

Your storytelling with expression and pose is so, so wonderful here, and you've created something relatable to people in many different ways, based on the comments I peeked through. From where I'm sitting it reads as either a reference to Purple being aro (which is my fave because it's so rare to see and fits the lyrics just *chefs kiss*) or as Purple being gay and Blue being the opposite gender. Even after 1 year, I keep coming back to this incredible video from time to time, partly because I think I can identify a little with both the blue-eyed and purple-eyed Dragon, and also because of all the incredible emotions that this video brings to light.
It's a true work of art, even if I'm not a big fan of the gore/blood that appears towards the end, I can understand that it's part of the creative process, and I can only congratulate the author for managing to create such a strong and touching animation with Dragons, in addition to the really heartfelt expressions that each character demonstrates.

This is just gorgeous, honestly going into it I didnt expect a lot because to me, it looked like some Wings of Fire shit and that always tends to look the same, but this was very different. You did an excellent job at establishing the characters, and I really did feel for them, too. The sudden change in tone closer towards the end, with the more violent expressions surprised me, and it was effective in both keeping the content fresh but also bringing it out on more of a personal level. You did a great job, and youre an extremely talented artist

I really enjoyed this video! It reminds me so much of who I was in high school and how things are supposed to be. All of those thoughtful hours at Barnes & Noble studying or just chilling with relaxing, thoughtful vibes about dragons and indie/alt music. That is what life is supposed to be in my opinion. We had the Legend of Spyro and Pokemon when I first started doing that. It's amazing to see the WoF fans running the same exact type of operation as well! =)
