thanks Brady, it was quite the event when we realized we did not have the right spark plug wrench for that bike. We pushed it back and forth until we were able to move it backward for the piston to lower releasing the tension of the hydro lock. We were all really excited when it started.
We did all the hard sections we came across. we didn't make it all the way around unfortunately we ran out of time. Might be heading back again this Fall.
Cool video. I'm hoping what I've been seeing here is mostly the "hard" sections. I am interested in the route and am interested in some buff off-road trails, but don't have nearly enough hair on my chest for what I'm seeing in this vid, and whatever bike I will be on would probably be too big for some of it, anyway!
There are lots of great really fun parts in between what you see in the video. I tried to add the more interesting parts to show what its like. We were all on bikes weighing 250lbs or less
@@jimmycrowell8854 Thanks for the response! I’m a 60 year old relative off-road beginner and would be on a 600lb BMW GSA. I’m looking for relatively mild gravel and double track, or will need to grow a big pair 😂.
@@mike.thomas just be smart you can ride a lot of these sections just not as fast. over the years i have progressively gone from a 550lb bike to a 255lb to now ride a 225lb. For the riding that I do and enjoy i have found that lighter is better. But we are a group of off road riders not street riders trying to ride off road. If you ever get a chance to jump on a ktm 500 i would jump on it and try riding down a gravel road to see how much fun it is. If you want to ride 300 miles on open road that aint the bike that's where the BMW GSA comes in and there is not a much better bike than that to do longer road distances on. or even a gravel road or two. But if you really want off the beaten path then lighter is better in my experience
@@jimmycrowell8854 I have been practicing gravel at a place near Lexington that has a gravel road terminating in a pretty big parking lot. I have visited three times now and have been building confidence, getting the feel of having the back come loose under throttle, or just due to natural looseness of the surface. Practicing lower speed tight turns counterweighting the bike etc. my goal is to not be intimidated by the random patch of gravel, or road. Thanks for your thoughts! I definitely often consider adding a lighter bike to the stable.
This is my dream getaway. Is that weird? I can afford to go anywhere, but I just want to explore the less travelled road, ideally near where I’m living at the time (I’m currently in Nashville)
Ryan we were on KTM 250, 350, 500 4 strokes. we trailered them down and started in the South East Corner at Breaks Interstate Park. Parked the cars and trailers there and set out. We ran out of time and missed the final section just north of that area. We ran clockwise.
@@jimmycrowell8854 and the bikes can handle ~700 miles off-road without servicing them? I’d love to do it, but will likely only ever have a 2 stroke and will not be able to have a trailer. Hence, needing to ride there and back which also limits my ride.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I’ll be there in August. Was this all the main route or was it some hard sections too? I’m on EXC 500 but others will be on 390 Adv and 790 Adv.
We rode most of the "red" or hard sections. Some of the hard sections are tricky but doable others like the one rock hill climb would be really hard on anything heavier than a ktm 500 but doable if you go slow enough and use spotters. have a great time.
Loved this video!!
thanks man it was a really fun trip
Awesome ride and video. Hope to head up that way late spring!! Thanks for sharing with us
go for it, you will have a blast
Man this looks like a ton of fun. I can't wait to make our way out there from WV this coming year.
it was a great time well worth the trip out
I love that you included Alexi Murdoch. I always find that’s great music in the middle of nowhere when I’m exploring an adventure.
Tricky water crossings, some really rocky sections.
it was a blast though all worth it
I cringed when he tipped it in the creek. Fun video! My brother and I hope to take the KAT this spring.

@@jimmycrowell8854 I could literally see the exhale of relief :)
22:45 was incredibly beautiful. If someone told me that was Columbia, I’d believe them.
that does kind of look like some place in South America
"Go ahead, I'll film ya" 16:43
Let me hold your beer and I'll watch
This video needs more Husky 🙂
If it had too much husky it would make the rest of us look bad.
This looks awesome. Did yall do all the optional hard sections or mostly stick to the main route?
We did all the hard sections we came across. we didn't make it all the way around unfortunately we ran out of time. Might be heading back again this Fall.
Great video. Really gives a good feel for what the KAT is like. Great teamwork by the 5 riders here.
Thank John we had a lot of fun and enjoy riding together

We just finished 1,000 miles on the KAT ourselves. Great video!
that's great man what was your favorite part? what bikes did you guys ride and how many days did it take you?
Great video
thanks Steve
Looks super crazy
I am wondering if the GPS route you took was from GPS Kevin? If not I would be interested where you got it.
can't remember off the top of my head i would have to go back and look. i think i got it from the creator of the route from advrider
Hey Jimmy! great video I have seen some photos from John T, fun times ,hope to ride with you sometime this year
thanks Brian sounds like a plan lets do it
we will be down there riding whole loop with a buddy second week of Aug. wr250r and a tw200 gonna be great!
nice have a great time

2stroke is the best exploration tool u can get. Its easier to explore on a 250 then a 125 . Watch out for toll roads.
So what bikes did you guys use and where did you ride them from/to the start/end of the trail?

it was a great time
I did all that on a GS Adventure…

Yeah, no way. Respect.
How many days did it take to complete?
we rode for 5 days and were not able to finish the last section and a half of the trip
