    I loved that you mentioned it takes time, sometimes it feels like everyone else is connected and you're the only one without close writing friends and remembering that it takes time to forge those friends is so important.

      @LiselleSambury  3 года назад +1

      Yes, exactly! It’s so easy to feel like that and it helped me a lot to realize that most people didn’t make those friendships overnight

      It’s nice to hear that it takes time. I sometimes wish I lived in a bigger community so I could meet more people in real life but it also takes me a while to get know people too.

    This video is awesome. I needed to hear this because I've been feeling creatively lonely lol. I'm not very good at writing but I do draw. I love to work in creative groups with people who are better at writing and I can tag team in character creating and plot ideas while also sketching up stuff. It's been very hard lately to find friends that want to do things like that. Being in a group helps me stay motivated and inspired more to draw and create stories. I'm hoping I can take this advice and find some new creative friends.

      I hope that you can find some new creative friends! It really can be so encouraging and motivating when you’re in a group of people who are doing the same creative thing as you. But it can also be awkward and difficult to know how to go about finding those people too which I totally get

    Man! Such good information! Writing is SO solitary sometimes and it can be so hard to find positive people to surround yourself with.

    • @LiselleSambury
      @LiselleSambury  3 года назад +1

      It really can! But there’s so much that support and positive people can do for your writing even though you’re not actually doing the writing bit together

    Soooo much yes to trading first chapter first. I once had an entire manuscript critique that was supppppper mean.

    This is so helpful! Getting beta writers and CPs has always seemed like such a mysterious process to me haha. I feel like I tend to be kind of shy online, so it's not automatic to me to comment or reply to things beyond hitting "like". MUST CHANGE THAT.

    • @corarara6482
      @corarara6482 3 года назад

      Also glad you mentioned recognising toxic behaviour. It can definitely be hard to pinpoint in everyday friendships, but I think with writer relationships there's another layer to it, because you want to be open to critique since it's crucial to growing as a writer. Learning the difference between genuine critique and someone just shitting all over your work is so important.

    • @LiselleSambury
      @LiselleSambury  3 года назад +2

      I hope it helped demystify that beta/CP process! And absolutely, it can be really hard to tell when someone is being toxic because it can be easy to think “maybe in being sensitive” and that sort of thing. But I hope that by bringing it up it can help people be aware of that going into things.

    Liselle, this video is so wonderful. I can totally see you in schools giving these types of talks to kids. This is information that would help them as children and continue to serve them as adults. You hit on so many great points from the fact that boundaries are important and that also, making friends takes time. I took away so much from this video myself. I feel so grateful to have found the AuthorTube community. I've always been a socially awkward introvert but finding such a large community of writers and creatives has turned me into a socially awkward extrovert! I am trying to keep it cool and not turn into that Abominable Snowman from the Bugs Bunny cartoons that forces his friendship on others. We will see how that goes LOL. Thanks for the great video and wonderful advice.

    This is awesome! For in-person writer friends, I have found them in school (writing program) and by joining an in-person community writing critique group. Not always accessible, but there’s nothing that says a person can’t start their own local writer’s group 😊

    Thank you for making this video, it was helpful! I'm at a point in the fantasy series I'm writing where I'm looking for CP/Betas, but I'm honestly still really worried about people stealing. I just have trust issues lol! But, I think this video aided in relieving some of my anxieties.

      I’m so glad it helped! It can be nerve wracking but honestly the help is worth it. And if you have some time to get to know people and work up a relationship first, there’s more trust built and that can help with that anxiety too

    Thanks for this video! It seems to me the question really is how do you make friends in your life period. EVERY relationship takes time and it’s a good idea to vet people you let into you life-online or IRL. I guess you can’t let yourself worry about the time it takes.

    Random question (that is completely unrelated lol sorry) and I'm sorry if you've already made a video about it, but do you use a pen name? I've been thinking about starting my own channel but haven't really decided on a pen name or channel name. Just a thought. Anywhoo... thanks! I always enjoy your vids.

    • @LiselleSambury
      @LiselleSambury  3 года назад

      I don’t use a pen name, mostly because I really wanted to see my full name on books but also because I didn’t need to separate my legal name from my author name for any reason. I know some people are more private etc. and therefore may prefer a pen name. It’s up to you!

    I have tried writing group gathering and unfortunately I did not find much success….looking for a good fit. I was running into so many writers who were creating gory stories and I could not get into stories.

    • @LiselleSambury
      @LiselleSambury  Год назад

      I’m sorry to hear that! Sometimes it’s hard to find those perfect fits. Harder in person too. I think this is why it worked out better connecting to people who I knew were writing stories with a similar style to mine. I hope you can find one that works for you!
